From a performance standpoint, you're absolutely right. However, the linear regulator makes it heat up a bit and cuts into battery life. The SmokeTek is a little better deal over all IMO.

Alternately, low cost, lets you try both bottom feeder and VV, is an Oldgoat VV. I've got one on order, $50. It has a 3ml feed bottle, uses two 14500 batteries. Add two pairs of batteries and a charger, you'll be in at about $80.

I have had several of VV Mods. Not really had much trouble even with the inexpensive ones. If I were to recommend a couple. The first would be the Sabre Touch
Great guy completely customizable and built like a tank very sturdy. They only the only negative is one of the big draws for this device. Which is the touch button. Its great almost all the time. But I work outdoors and need a clicky for cold weather when I am wearing gloves.

VV Turbo Vaprlife. This one I have been using almost two years now. IMHO its also a rock star. Batt life is unbelievable and also pretty sturdy. I have seen some less than favorable reviews for them in the past. Nothing recent. And I have never had any trouble with them. All great experiences for me. I recently sent my in because I had a lot of miles on it and wanted to get new threads. It was a very inexpensive painless process and I really got much more than I had asked or expected.
