Mine worked fine last night but this morning it didn't want to fire unless I pushed the button a few times. I hope mines not firing randomly cause it sat all night with the switch in the on position and it's at home now with the switch on.

I too am getting them chemical smell/ taste Leaving the door off helps.

Your sense of smell is closely aligned with your sense of taste. What you're sniffing is what you're tasting.

Did you see my earlier post about using a minute rice bag to pack your mod in coffee grounds?
That's actually what I thought and what I told him so I plugged my nose and tried it (LOL) and we're still tasting it. I did read that about the coffee grounds and suggested it to him. Have you tried it yet? Did it work. He said he doesn't want it to taste like coffee either. LOL Although I told him I don't think it would. Do you know if it will just go away in time? We may try the coffee grounds if we hear from someone who tried it. Thanks for the help. :)

Oak is going bonkers. When I turn on the switch it either starts up full burn or has a faint sizzle for 3-5 seconds and then full burn until I turn the switch off. I need to get some sleep so will remove batteries and address the issue after sleeping for a few hours.

I blew some compressed air into box, just gentle puff, from both directions. It didn't make any difference. Gonna put an atty on. I've changed out batteries and have it on lowest voltage.

I'm going to stay awake just a little longer. I had a Boge 2.0 carto on. Just now put on a 2.6 ohm 306 with clear Pyrex DT. (not Cisco or IKV) Turned it on and took a toke. Okay. Set it down... about one minute it started firing on its own. When it does the low sizzle it is hard to hear if it's more than 18" from you but you can hear when it kicks up to full power.

I just called my daughter at home to have her go switch mine off. I don't know what to think right now.
Don't get disheartened. I know it stinks, but with these being the first VV's a few glitches are to be expected. Sounds like you and Alice both need to talk to Rob. I have every confidence that he will get these babies in perfect working order.
:(Sorry to hear your REO is having issues.

Yes I got a curly oak too and it did appear lighter in the photo on the site. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was actually a bit darker in person. I think it's a really cool looking wood. Guess there are now at least 2 curly oaks in MD. LOL
yea, although i think we are two of the only vapors in maryland, haha

The VV Woodville an Observation

Hello everyone

It has been a very long time since I have posted. I know there are those on this forum that know me and many who do not. By way of introduction I am a former two pack a day 50 year smoker. I started vaping on 8-19-2009 and have never looked back. I became a REONAUT in June of 2010 when I received my first Wood REO, and I count myself fortunate to have that Woody as well as a Mini, a Grand, a Woodville and now a VV Woodville. I don’t post often because it is just not in my nature, but when I am as excited as I am now I just have to share it.

I was lucky enough to score an Ebony/Quilted Maple and these are my observations on this mod.

Appearance

This thing is just gorgeous. I have never been one who placed that much emphasis on appearance. Sure, I wanted it to look good, but it wasn’t of paramount importance to me. The color, gran and finish are truly amazing and it’s like holding a fine piece of furniture in my hand, and therein (as they say) lies the rub this Is just too beautiful to take outside. I am inherently clumsy and have dropped all of my REOS many times. I just won’t risk that happening with this baby so forever more this will be my indoor mod.

Variable Voltage

When Rob first announced, in September of last year, that he would be building a VV Mod it was the first time in a long while that I became excited about the prospect of getting a new device. I know that I am preaching to the choir here when I say that REOS cannot be beat in terms of functionality. The juice feeding system, the electronics, the ease of use, durability and convenience cannot be equaled in the world of vaping. That coupled with variable voltage really made me pay attention. I can say unequivocally that this Mod did not disappoint. Understand, that the Grand has not left my side in the 18 months I have owned it. It has been my go to mod and is just great. However, one of the things that made it a bit of a challenge was that the batteries came off the charger at around 4.24 volts and with most LR attys that was just a bit too hot for me. I would then vape, somewhat uncomfortably, for about and hour until the battery came down to my “Sweet Spot”. Then about an hour and half of great vaping until it started to taper off. With the VV I can dial up that “Sweet Spot” and continue in bliss for about ten hours. Even when you change the batteries it stays at the voltage previously set. For me, it just couldn’t get any better.

Customer Service

Not only is Rob the greatest Mod Master Builder on this or any other planet. He is one of the finest gentlemen you could ever hope to meet. The level of customer service he provides is fantastic. Any issues that arise are dealt with immediately and with complete satisfaction. I consider myself very lucky in being able to call him a friend.

THANK YOU ROB FOR AN ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC PV.

PS: As stated above I don’t post very often but I do lurk all the time. I guess now I will be lurking for another five weeks on the VV Grand thread.

I talked with Robert for awhile yesterday. It is a lot different putting out these VV with the electronics. He sent a few out for beta testing to pick up potential problems. With the number that he made it is highly unlikely that all will be problem free. We see it everyday when purchases are made. Not just in Pv's but in items we use daily.

Robert is always right there to sort out problems and fix his REO's. That is the quality of his customer service and just plain how he is.

Although we find it to be frustrating, we should keep in mind the number of these that went out in relation to the number of problems that are becoming evident. Seems to be a very low percentage to me.

To those having problems, you have my sympathy. Hang in there he will do all he can to make sure you are a happy customer.

I have had to do it for all of my new Woodvils (not saying numbers but it is a few). I'm really sensitive to the finish odor and odors used to be my main Migraine Trigger. Coffee works better than anything. Some woods and/or finishes hold the odor longer some shorter. And it is dependent on which wood and which finish is used on the woods. Most, in the past, I've had to do a week, some longer, one for a month. I just started using my Bloodwood/Spalted, just now, and it's odor is less than the Curly Oak. It's been sitting in open room for 36 hours and has very little now. The Oak still has some odor but it has lessened in 36 hours in air.

BTW... the tongue, what most people consider to be our taste center, is only a small fraction of our ability to taste. Most of it is from olfactory sensors. The tongue can only distinguish a few. Some areas of the tongue are more sensitive to certain taste but they overlap. You've heard sweet, sour, salty, etc. You can do an experiment by closing your eyes and holding your nose and having someone give you bites of different tasting foods but with similar textures. It's difficult to distinguish between a lot of different foods if you can't smell them.

I've lived in a house with 6-10 GIANT and Large, country housedogs, for decades. And they are free to come and go muddy, wet, dusty, smelly, shedding, whatever and plenty of puppies in 30 years. So combating odors is a specialty of mine.

I tried all kinds of things to leach the odor of the wood finishes and the only thing that really worked was coffee.

Plenty of us have used it.

Mudflap has given advice about putting Woodvil into a rice cooking bag (I think that is what he said) to keep the coffee grounds and dust out of the chip and chip area. Or you can put a few inches of unused coffee ground in a plastic container, put a paper towel down, and place Woodvil on top of paper towel. Then seal container. Don't shake it. Check it first day several times. It may take only a day or so. Some may take more time.

The coffee odor does not stay in the Woodvil. I love all things coffee, that are consumable, but I can't stand to vape coffee or any juice that has the slightest bit of coffee taste.

It really works!!!!

karla, im getting the same thing with the flavor, lol it gets into the tips i took my tip off and smelled it and its just like the wood, i think its more from the oil used to finish it. i took my door and and stuck it next to a fan to air it out, i dont really feel like getting coffee and rice and all sorts of stuff so hopefully it helps like that

i have no had any problems with it firing on its own yet, hopefully it was just a defect in a few of the boards and not as a whole, i woul hate to have my woodville recalled! lol the wood and grain and finish on this thing is amazing, i love how think the door is, and how precise and hidden the internals are, everything about it says good and hard work!

now to get the smell out of it and it will be perfect. hoepfuly airing it out will work out, ill let you guys know.

If everybody is worried about grounds getting in the chip component...wouldn't whole coffee beans extract the smell too?

Oil rubbed Cocobolo smells a little like leather, so I'm happy.

Whole beans may work but ground would be better as more surface area to absorb. Also coffee beans have a "waxy" coating that might inhibit the absorption.

Ack! Panic post! Quick rundown: received VV Woodvilles today and threw one into my carry on bag with batts, etc. for assembly after arriving at my destination. Assemble and prime atty, add drip tip, install juice bottle, install batteries. Get some lovely puffs and decide to go read ECF for a little while with a few puffs on the side. And then:

THE MOD IS FIRING ON ITS OWN AT RANDOM INTERVALS. I'm glad I didn't have it in my pocket (or worse, in another room or in storage) when this happened; it was just seating on the couch next to me. Double checked that the firing button wasn't stuck (it wasn't) so I turned the on/off switch to "off" and then back to "on"...and the random firing resumes just as soon as I set it back down. Please, somebody help me! I can't have a mod that "decides" to suddenly become very very hot and put tremendous stress on expensive batteries and expensive atomizers!

How is this circuit being completed without human intervention?? Some sort of short across the switch wires? Or is there some other point of failure that I haven't considered. I want to use my new toy but it's very much scaring me at the moment!!
Hello Munkey I am aware of the issue this is not the only case . I am pretty sure its the push button switch . I have one of the units that did this here with me I am testing .I replaced the switch and it has showed no signs of turning on by itself since . I have talked with Mike from notcigs about the issue he said worst case you will burn a atomizer - cartomizer there is no danger to the batteries . Send the mod to me I will repair it and get it back to you asap .
I only wish this would have showed up with the beta mods but it didn't . Others that are reading this it would be a good idea to turn your mod off while your not using it

I do think is is a good idea to flip the switch off when not using it. It never occurred to me that anything like this would happen and I'm pretty tech savy. Keep a close watch. I had been using Oak since Wed evening and it just started doing it in past couple of hours. I know it hasn't done it previously as the Boge carto would have tasted burnt and it would have, in deed, been burnt if I had not been using it when it first happened.

I'm thinking everyone who has purchased one needs to be sent an email to alert them to the possibility of it happening. I hope to have the remaining two that won't malfunction so if Robert does have to send out loaners and runs out I can loan my two out. Buzz Pro and REOs will hold me over till the kinks are worked out.

But I do need to use them for a few days to make sure they don't malfunction.

I'll bet Robert is on it right now.
