You did the right thing. I'd take it a step further and post on Yelp. I did that to a B&M store that I had a very similar experience at.

I'd also spread the word on facebook too.

On another note I am planning on setting up a forum for people to place reviews on vaping shops. I'll give the word out on here when it is done. I figure something like that could be a good thing. A guy who runs a vape shop at a fleemarket I know liked the idea when I told him about it.

that store unfortunately will thrive.alot of new peeps don't know better.my local stores like it when someone helps out with questions and advise.thats whayt a community is supposed to do,not upsell newcomers.when I first walked into a store,i wanted a giant battery setup, now I know it was a mod, didnt know then and the guy wouldn't sell me one, told me what I NEEDED to know, not what he wanted to sell

Glad to hear you did what you felt was right. He got caught trying to make money from someone by selling them the wrong thing, when he could have made a lifetime customer by selling him the right thing. An MVP and a nice kanger tank maybe? Now the shop is out two customers... good!

I have also been thrown out once, and almost again recently.

I will not tolerate being lied to or rude service for a second. If I hear an employee lying to someone really just trying to quit smoking I will call them out on it right then and there.

I have told an employee that they had no idea what they were talking about more than once. Just because you have a wool cap, some tattoos and can wrap a coil on a mech mod does not make you an expert. Some of them sure do act like they are... elitist hipster weirdos... I do see them push mech mods and drippers on folks brand new to vaping and I have pulled more than one customer off to the side to help them out. Did it in Houston and got thrown out... I was going to get the guy to spend money... just not waste it on an itaste VTR that he didnt need and wouldnt fit the tank he already had without the extention.

My most recent near miss was me trying to return an Dovpo VW that had a bad USB port after 1 week, it also would shut off for no reason. I was told I had 30 days to exchange or return it if it didnt work correctly. The story changed when I brought it back however.

I told them " this is the policy, this is what you told me when I bought it. I just want to exchange it, and will still end up spending more money on juice and coils " I am in that shop every 3 weeks before and right after I leave work offshore. I got treated like I was bothering them and had some guy in the back trying to "fix" it. I told him not to bother because I was not going to take back a defective item. I finally raised my voice and asked them to get the owner on the phone before they let me exchange the item. I owed them 3 dollars and change on the mod I settled on and some coils. I really really really wanted to buy 3 or 4 bottles of high VG 6ml juice for my Atlantis but not after getting treated like that.

A few days prior to my visit to that shop I withdrew $14,000.00 cash out of the bank and spent $10,500.00 on an RV. I pulled a stack of 35 one hundred dollar bills out of my front pocket acting like I was looking for a smaller bill. I made them break a hundred to pay them $3.16 i owed them. I expected to spend the full 14,000 on my RV but got an unexpected deal... I was drooling over a provari p3 and the kanger subtank... They will never see another penny from me.

Ya one of the biggest issues in my area is that vape shops are popping up EVERYWHERE. I have 20 in a 8 mile rays, and even more opening up. Several of them I would never ever step foot in again. It's a big money maker for people in this area seeing as I'm only 5 min from Staten Island and 25 min from NYC. Lots of people taking advantage, treating the hobby as a "fad". I'm all for people making money, but people need to do it in a respectable way, especially when it comes to how dangerous some of this stuff can be to new peopl who have no idea what they are doing or using.

...

I talked to them outside for awhile about devices and setups and practical use for them. I can't believe that B&M's are doing this stuff, it's so shady and underhanded, and dangerous. His is why I stick to online shopping and not having to see or hear things like this.

You did the Right Thing.

And somewhere, your Good Karma counter went up 500 Points.

See, I do the same thing. Difference is, Sweet Vapes LIKES when I do that!

In there a couple months ago. Lady was in to buy new glass for her Aero mini. Was talking with her, and she was complaining about her spinners always dying: showed her the iStick. She bought one (and the SV employee asked if I wanted to work there)...

We only have one vape shop within a hundred miles. It's located in a shopping mall--oh how I hate malls. He could scam a ton of people if he wanted to but he doesn't.
He takes the time to start people off with decent batteries and cleromizers--explains to his new customers that as they get more knowledgeable about the various products he will sell them what ever they want but he won't sell them something they know nothing about. I have actually heard him tell people they can buy most of his stuff on-line and save some money.

He makes sure his counter girls don't steer people wrong too. He wasn't there one day so I asked about some e-liguid and the girl told me she doesn't vape so all she could do was tell me which sells the best. I appreciated the honesty.

His prices are outrageous--but i don't really mind if I need something--I hope he does well.

I'm lucky to have a responsible vape shop close by that's run by a lady who's been vaping since the Joye 510 was in everyone's hands. She doesn't let her employees wind coils for new mech purchasers, but hands them a free booklet that explains mechs and coils and mech safety from one end to the other. She lectures them on the dangers and explains the process after trying to steer them toward VV and VW.

Most new vapers get to choose from a large assortment of starter VV and VW mods. It's a shame that so many new vapers seem to be starting to vape in order to show off by blowing clouds. Isn't vaping still a good way to stop smoking permanently? Does it have to be about cloud creation in public?

Ya I gotta admit the shop i shop almost exclusively at is pretty good. I sit there trying juices and such and listen to what they tell people and they always try to steer the new folks away from the mechanicals and towards the regulated, and pre-made coil stuff. They've never objected to me saying things to the folks either. They know I've been there enough to have a "clue". You did the right thing, and karma will hopefully come back to you on this.

I think that If I worked in a vape shop I'd have to ask new vapers why they thought they needed a mech. Once you explain VV and VW to them it should become apparent that regulated is the way to go unless they are trying to emulate cloud makers.

Regulated and rebuildables go together well. My Kayfun loves my iStick and my Provari and also plays well with the Sigelei Zmax.

Very true! Especially if you have an M-tank, and can use one of the Kayfun rings as a "beauty ring" in place of the "flat top" (which isn't!).

Although nowadays, since I have that crappy clone of a Kayfun, I can use the rings from it and still have a standard-configured kayfun on top -- the rings from that crappy kayfun are worth more than the head!

Only read to page 2 and I agree with the OP, it was the right thing to do and good for you!

I don't necessarily agree with comments about reporting the shop to the BBB.
1. The shop was not giving the best advice but it would be hard to say the advice was unethical.
2. Why give the ANTZ another reason to ban vaping?
3. instead use social media to call the shop out. Here in the Tampa Bay area we have at least 3 major FB groups. I wouldn't be surprised to find this shop already has a reputation and if not they may deserve one within the community.

Just my $.02

I am going to respectfully disagree with you. I do think they should be reported. IMO ANTZ would have way more ammunition if a place like that continues to put people in danger.

Yep. And, not EVERYONE pays attention to "social media" -- but the BBB is EVERYWHERE. Schooling unethical businesses is what they're FOR.
