I agree with everything you said, but especially the first thing -- which speaks to what I said, that cops have pretty much carte blanche in how they treat the public. They can do anything to you that they want, and then make up a good reason why it was necessary to do that, and nobody will question it. If you're lucky, you may get a judge who knows this about cops and holds them accountable, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that; judges have even more power than cops, and you know what they say about the corrupting nature of power -- absolutely. And even if you get that lucky in your judge, how many days did you have to spend in jail, just to see that judge? How does your boss feel about that? Or your spouse? If you're just dying to get behind bars, the best way I can think of to do that is to get smart-mouthed with a cop. 72 hours later they might let you go.

It does not have to always be an "us V/ them" mentality.

The majority of officers are decent guys just doing their job. Over the years I have known many officers and only had two situations where they were D bags. The first was my wedding. We had it at our house. Two rookies showed up with a tiny bit of attitude.. Which was totally fine when I told them that their boss was actually inside and I can just go get him and they can work it out. Needless to say that all of a sudden their attitudes changed.
The next time was when I lived in the Keys. This one officer had a reputation for being a bully. He pulled me over because my tail light was cracked. The light was not broken but there was a crack in the plastic that had just happened that very day. To late for me to get a replacement or even the red tape. He was really nasty. It just so happened that I knew his boss as well. He ws a very good freind of ours and we had just seen him a few days earlier. Upon inquiring about how his boss was doing... his attitude changed as well. Go figure?

I should mention that not only did he have a bully type attitude he was kind of creepy in a perv type way. At some point I really did say to him "Hey my face is up here"

So although neither of my stories are vape related, I think the moral is to get to know your local LE.

When I 1st started vaping, I was working in the basement of a Sheriffs department. Now this is Way Down South in Texas (Border Operations) and the Sheriff was always down there checking on things with the Ranger that was in charge. One day, soon after getting my 1st Vamo, the Sheriff comes up to me and asks me "What is that thing???" (He already knew I was now using electronics to stop smoking). I explained to him that it was the latest ASP Baton -Tazer - Smoke screen device on the market, and took a drag .. ;)

6 months later, 200 miles north, a lady rear ends my car at a light, twice.. When the cops finally showed up, the wife and I kept calmly vaping away. Not even a second glance.

Now, all this is from 2 to 1.5 years ago. My question is, Did they keep the female officer in the OP's original post in another basement somewhere for her not to know what a vaping device was? ;)

My biggest concern now is my city's new Hand Free Only law with cellphones and driving. My 2 main mods are box mods now and they will surely get me pulled over.. LOL

Police departments should be educated on things like this. Thankfully we don't see a lot of ignorant backlash from the police but it is most definitely possible, from Po'dunk USA to Main Street.

I certainly don't blow it in anyone's face but we have to be ambassadors to the community. People are scared of new and strange things, even police, and typically when you scare the police things go poorly. I do my best to vape as openly and casually as possible, without being "that guy" blowing clouds into some soccer mom's face at the mall.

WE have to normalize the behavior to make sure that it becomes or continues to be socially acceptable.
yup, 'cause the moment someone makes a wrong battery judgment and gets seriously hurt and it ends up on the news next thing vaping is gonna be banned everywhere

I saw a funny vid awhile back on youtube where they messed up on something and the dashcam picked up their convo sayin oh man its that guy with all the youtube vids, we're in trouble!!!

so yes they do know they cant anything and they cant just stop you or search you or property without warrant or probable cause, you can fight it in court

And, "in court" is the proper place to fight it ....... not on the street.
That officer can be your friend just as easily as "the enemy" ............ your choice.

yup, what you say and do can be held against you in a court of law and same goes for the cop(s)

remember, they are not your friends (unless you actually are their friend :p ), part of their job is to arrest people and write tickets for people breaking the law

But if you are not breaking the law, you might just as well treat them as if they were a friend instead of making them an enemy.

I believe this depends on the circumstances. If a cop comes up to me with an attitude, he'll get one right back. If he comes up and calmly introduces himself without treating me like a felon, I'll give him the same courtesy back.

I've been pulled over a few times thanks to my lead foot. Had one cop clock me at 111mph. He was generally decent and I was up front and told him I knew I was speeding. He gave me a ticket and I went on my way. Easy enough. I've also been pulled for minor things and had the cop be a complete jerk, so I gave him the bare minimum I had to give and sat quietly.

One thing that I've learned, during a traffic stop I can generally tell how it's going to go as soon as I tell them I'm carrying a concealed weapon. If he says as long it stays concealed it's fine, then I know he's going to be pretty decent. If I get drug out of the car and disarmed at gunpoint (which has happened once), then I know I've gotten the luck of being stopped by a jerk.

(mods feel free to move this)

Well, the weather was nice out today so I decided to walk to the vape shop to pick up some more juice. On the way back, I was vaping my Kayfun V4 on my mech mod, listening to music and enjoying the weather when I saw a cop car drive by me, then drive back the other way down the street, then finally come up and stop right next to me and roll the window down. Considering I was just minding my own business, I wasn't quite sure why she stopped me.

Anyways, she asked to see my Kayfun and after handing it over, she asked if it was a ......... pipe. I explained to her it was an e-cigarette (even though I don't really like calling it that) and showed her my bottle of juice. She seemed genuinely interested and curious about it and asked me how it worked. I also showed her my IPV Mini that I had on me and she finally explained that she stopped me because she thought I was smoking a ......... pipe. She was extremely friendly the whole time and didn't give me any trouble.

Just thought it was an interesting event and wanted to share, and maybe serve as a warning in case you don't get as lucky as me and get stopped by a cop looking to make trouble. I will probably try and vape out in the open a bit more discreetly from now on.

It probably didn't help that my tank looks like this:

I have been pulled over for vaping in my car 3 times in the past year. I also need to mention i live in Colorado so when they see "smoke" coming from your car that doesn't look like a cigarette they tend to get curious. the first time the officer said that an older couple had actually called the cops and had been following me telling them where they could pull me over for smoking {other stuff}; hahaha. luckily in all three cases i have shown the device to the office and been on my way. The only thing that has made me nervous has been that i buy my juice in bulk and transfer it over to needle point bottles, could this become an issue down the road; should i always keep a labeled bottle on me or am i just be paranoid. I know i can always have them test my juice if they think im doing anything funky; but that would mean they would search my car and give me a road side sobriety test. anyone thoughts would be interesting to read

First off, to you guys vaping and blowing it into anyone's face, especially a cop, is a smart{Moderated} thing to do. Especially if you're just at a traffic light and haven't even been stopped.

I vape in parking lots, but I put it away long before I reach the front door. It's just courtesy to others. If I didn't smoke or vape, it would annoy me like hell if someone was vaping and blowing it into my face, let alone those {Moderated} that actually think it's okay to do it inside a store. I haven't seen one yet, but I've heard stories that people like that are out there.

Like others, there's a vape shop in every city in my area and they're popping up quickly so the cops should know what's up. Just don't give them a hard time and be careful with your steel mech mods. Wouldn't want to be accidently shot for messing around too much.

I would keep a labeled bottle in your car. Just to keep life simple.

I'll vape in a store, if I'm going to be there awhile. Not billowing clouds, just a hit now and then. And I don't vape anywhere that's posted, or I've been asked not to

I'm always polite to police, even when telling them "no, you can't search my vehicle". The only time I ever got at all confrontational, was when I offered him my hands for the cuffs: told him that a mistake would have consequences. Thankfully, an older/wiser officer was right there to stop him from committing a false arrest. And even then, I was calm and polite

I always try to stealth vape if I'm in a store. Hold it in for 15 or 20 seconds and not much vapor comes out at all.

I was stopped once for vaping. Had been vaping with all the windows up, and I decided to let the window down since I was close to my destination. As soon as I roll the window down and take another hit, an OHP (Ohio Highway Patrol) officer passes me, and turns around and follows me to Little Caesar's. He probably thought I was stoned lol. As I get out he asks me to stop and I asked if there was a problem. He replies "That was a lot of smoke coming from the vehicle". I laughed and asked if he minded me reaching into my pocket to grab my ZNA50. After all, I'd rather not be shot for grabbing my vape gear lol. I told him what it was, we talked about vaping for a good 20mins, he took a hit off the mod, told him how to get to the shop I go to, and he left. Never thought I'd get a cop into vaping!

A while back I was at the vape shop, and the guy working left his cash drawer open and walked away to get something. I made a comment about it, and he laughed and said "that's a cop standing in line behind you". Sure enough, the lady standing behind me just smiled & nodded.
There are LOTS of cops and TSA agents that vape.
    That is all.
