I will respectfully disagree here. While a majority of overweight people are so because of over eating and lack of exercise, that is not the only reason for obesity. There are diseases of the endocrine system that can cause weight to go out of control no matter what a person does among other things. Never judge a book by it's cover as you do not know what is inside.
Horsefeathers. It's physically impossible to get or stay fat if you don't over-eat. Yes, different people have different metabolisms, but the only way to gain weight is to consume more calories than you body burns or can otherwise dispose of. Sorry, but how much, and what kind of food goes in your pie-hole IS a choice.

It's a childish response that has been used by children for ages. Johnny stop that! But what about Timmy he's doing X?

The most offensive thing is that adults are still using it and considering it a sound approach to something that negatively affects them. It's easier to attack someone else and make them look just as "guilty" rather than make your point based on reasoning and facts.

I agree in part - that it can be a diversionary tactic, but when it comes to sin taxes it is a fact that smokers are targeted while other vices are not. It's not tattling on the drinkers and overweight folks - it's about equal treatment with regard to vices.

And the reason for the difference (whether I agree or not, which I don't in regards to vaping) is that both of those examples have no affect on bystanders who aren't taking part in said activity. Which is what those who are arguing against it rely on so it isn't even worth debating because they aren't going to change their stance on it. So it's up to us to find better examples of why they are wrong.

When I point out the obesity issue, it's not to demean them at all. And it's not a childish response. It's more like, "Hey, you are lying when you tell us you treat us this way for our own health. If it was really about health, you would be treating the obese in the same manner. And if you wouldn't dream of treating obese people this way for their own good, why are you doing it to smokers/vapers?"

But wouldn't it put us in a better light if we could defend our position without bringing anyone else and their vices into it?

This is not a defense per se, more like pointing out their hypocrisy and the flaws in their reasoning behind their actions. Especially after they refuse to listen to rational defenses about vaping.

Exactly. When they say it's for OUR health and wellbeing, they're LYING THROUGH THEIR TEETH. It's for THEIR comfort -- not health/wellbeing at all, since there is nothing UNhealthy to a bystander of vaping -- it's purely COMFORT, because vaping LOOKS like smoking -- or just sheer laziness, because they're too lazy to actually look it up, that vaping will not harm bystanders. Or pure gullibility AND laziness, for believing all the dreck the media keeps shoveling, AND being too lazy to check it out for themselves.

It hasn't got ONE IOTA to do with ANYONE'S health or wellbeing.

I agree but hypocrisy and government go hand in hand, there is nothing we can do about that. But attacking others whatever their malady may be just makes the attacker look like their position is weak and grasping at straws.

But no one is ATTACKING anything except the hypocrisy of saying it's for our health, when they are totally ignoring the health deficit of being overweight, or consuming caffeine, or driving too fast, or... ANYTHING else.

We are ATTACKING the hypocritical lie.

And that will get us nowhere like trying to punch a shadow.

Someone has to be the one that sticks the finger in the face of hypocrisy and calls it out. We love in a society that is more and more ruled by fear and rules.. Silly, unwarranted fear, and ridiculous, ill founded rules based not upon fact, but rumor and innuendo. I chose to give up a vice that was PROVEN to harm me, and was said to be harmful to others, although I'm still not sure that the simple smoking of a cigarette or cigar in public was anything other than offensive and bothered others ( but that's another debate).

Now I've in the process of being branded a public health hazard even though there is not one legitimate scientific study that can be used to prove that vaping in public is harmful to others. In fact, it's never even been PROVEN to be harmful to ME.

I personally am sick and tired of the busybodies that can't even run their own life making an effort to run mine...based on absolutely nothing. If we don't stand up for the small things, one day they'll come after everything. But that's fine...sit in your corner and ignore the little issues. History is rife with examples of overbearing people of power and governments that want to rule every single thing we do. Neutrality is a myth. You gotta serve somebody....

I would rather PUNCH AT A SHADOW than wind up in a world without the light of freedom and no shadows to punch at all....

If you think we live in a world of freedom now you're already mistaken all we have left now is our choice of the level of dignity in trying to get it back.

I work for the goverment, they are starting a general ban March 1st. But it's impossible to enforce. I still vape in my office. I'm comfortably tucked away down a long corridor that has little foot traffic. I havent seen my boss in a month, and i supervise hundreds of people that call me the "bad news bear". Mostly because if i show up at someone's office or work area, it means they are probably under investigation. So people avoid my office like the plague.

Sounds like my ideal job. Where can I find one like this??

As to bans in the workplace, it is always the same drivel about how they are protecting our health and well-being. They are simply bowing to the LOUDEST common denominator,

Really? Maybe you've been in a world without freedom, but if you think The USA is without freedom now, I can assure you that you are mistaken. Is it going away, bit by bit? I think so...but as for now, the fact that we can post our opinions on this board is a privilege that many world citizens don't possess. Women can drive vehicles and hold public office, and in many countries, that's not the case. We can still vote, although our choices may not be what we like. This is still a great country, in my opinion the greatest. But if we sit on our hands and say and do nothing, that will not forever be the case.

Just somebody, anybody, please do a certified, scientific, reputable study that proves that the use of personal vaporizers puts those around me at risk, and I will abide by any reasonable rule that is established by the powers that be. But don't lie to me, don't deceive me, and don't abuse me.

Is that too much to ask?

Our local beach town recently banned vaping. Their hypocrisy for the reason stated escapes them. "Many people say the emission from an e-cigarette is just harmless water vapor, but Commissioner Stan Mills tells WGMD News that’s not true – that there are aerosols like nicotine, which can have an adverse affect on pregnancy, toxic heavy metals and other chemicals that are known carcinogens and ultra-fine particles that can cause respiratory distress and illness."

This from a tourist trap that has 300,000 cars, delivery trucks, and busses each weekend idling and creeping down the blocks to the beach.

Idiots.
