History lesson (repeated) Just the facts.
I received a PM from GT in November, 2012 saying that his Gandalf was different. Very different. Said it had a cherry note to it. So I looked at my Gandalf stash. I happened to have a bottle that was mixed on September 26, 2012 and one on September 28, 2012. The 9/26 bottle tasted the same as it always had. The 9/28 bottle tasted like that cherry stuff GT described (I sent GT a sample of that 9/28 stuff and he confirmed that is what his new bottle tasted like. Keep in mind Gandalf was HHV's most popular flavor so this change came as alarming news. Gandygate was born.
Upon further investigation, Adam said the extraction time was inadvertently longer in his latest batch of Gandalf extract and that is why the flavor changed. He went back to the normal extraction time and it did not taste anything like Gandalf. Hence, a new flavor was born that was unlike any other. He kept both flavors on his menu. The cherry stuff remained Gandalf. The new flavor was called Serendipity (a name I suggested that Adam and Heather liked and used). I outright did not like Serendipity in any way, shape, or form. Gandalf, the flavor many of us had been hooked on that drew us to HHV was gone forever.
But the vape gods took care of us because there were two other flavors offered by HHV that were essentially identical to Gandalf (we affectionately had referred to these three flavors as the holy trinity). I personally think they were identical. One was called Pirate's Booty, the other Dragon's Fire. So I switched to Pirates Booty to get my Gandalf fix. Then around Xmas of 2012, Pirate's Booty changed. It was no longer anything like it once was and unlike any other HHV flavor. While the flavor of Gandalf changed to a cherry/fruity flavor that I found as OK, the new Pirate's Booty is something I could not warm up to at all. So now Gandalf had changed and Pirate's Booty has changed. The only remaining option was Dragon's Fire. So beginning 2013 I switched to Dragon's Fire. This flavor has never changed and remains for all intents and purposes the Gandalf that many of us started with.
Aftermath:
In 2013, HHV was harassed by Warner Brothers for using their Lord of the Rings character names and demanded they cease and desist. So Adam complied and changed the flavor names of several of his juices. Gandalf became Legend. Gollum became Sludge. Shadowfax became Shadow. He went a little further and changed a couple other names that potentially could bring on harassment...one being Mountain Dew to Dew. I believe there were one or two others.
I tried Legend, Pirate's Booty, and Serendipity a couple/few times at different intervals and found they stayed relatively the same over the months and years following Gandygate. Some have claimed PB has gone through several flavor iterations but I didn't find it to be pronounced as they did...perhaps because I didn't vape it much after Gandygate.
Some claimed that Gandalf changed once before (before any of us on the Big Thread showed up). They said it wasn't the same as I (we) knew it as. Adam said it was closer to what is now called Legend but with an extra flavor shot. So for those who remember the very first Gandalf when HHV first opened in Feb., 2012 they were allowed to ask for "Original Gandalf/Legend" simply by asking for an extra flavor shot. Those few who tried it said it didn't really match what they remembered. I question if it ever changed prior to Gandygate. It's never been verified.
All four flavors (Legend, Serendipity, Pirate's Booty, and Dragon's Fire) maintain a loyal customer base to this day.
