Ok we have a ton of scenarios out there on the perfect zombie plan. But lets break it down into categories. Keep in mind, with zombie plans, you dont have but maybe a 30sec/1 minute window to get ready. The chances of a person putting on an entire S.W.A.T. certified, tactical suit, is slim...at least in the beginning. One can find and make stuff once stuff settles a bit, but think about the beginnings of the zombie movies, like the 04 version of dawn of the dead. The woman was in bed with her hubby, the little girl attacked and the hubby turned...she barely made it out the bathroom window. she didnt have time to go and grab a zombie pack. Keep this in mind when preparing your plans.

#1 Zombie plan with only items you can carry. (this means no vehicles, or wheel barrows etc) Only what you can physically carry and still move/fight. This plan is more of the, oh ....., the zombies are here now plan.

#2 Zombie plan with the addition of a mobile means. This is the one you can use cars trucks etc. Keep this one realistic though. An army tank is NOT realistic. And saying you will go find a 4x4 after the Z-day starts is not realistic. You own a smart car now? deal with it (not too smart is it) own a prius? thats what you got to work with. This plan you have a few more minutes to get ready, but you are still under the gun.

#3 Zombie bunker plan. Dont want to get out and mingle with the undead? think your chances of survival are better if you just lay low? whats your bunker plan then? For this plan, once you are mobile sooner or later, you will have to have a base of operation. This is the plan for your base.

#4 Zombie fantasy plan. This one is for those that have grand visions of army surplus vehicles, over taking a prison and settling down. Wanna build your own private zombie proof utopia? Money is no object on this plan, so what is your ultimate fantasy plan? With this plan, anything is possible. want 15 gatlin guns on the roof of a prison, electronically controlled with automatic sensors to shoot ANYTHING that moves? This is your time to plan it.

With each plan, a list of weapons/supplies would be nice.

I'll start with #1 and #2 since I tend to write books as it is...
#1 Grab XD45 box with 75 rds off table, leather jacket and go! Jacket has spare 123 batts and led flash, stub screwdriver and adj wrench along with some nuts and bolts currently, it has lots of pockets :D Grab the 12guage if I can get to the front door. I'll have to scavenge food/water as I go (as will everyone else eventually).

#2 Above plus shotgun if I didn't before and head for the Eclipse GSX (awd baby!) which has a 10day pack in it along with extra .45 and 12g ammo, crowbar, machete, spare clothes and blankets and 2 extra flashlights (mag and cranker) and one spare 12V car batt I haven't taken out yet along with that spare alternator that needs a pulley. General plan for both is to get out of dodge and loot along the way for fuel/food/ammo or whatever else isn't nailed down. Try to aim for mom and pop sporting goods stores when I can (less overlap of looters) and the same for my drive off refueling stops. p.s. whatever can be pried up, isn't nailed down is it? Head for a mountain pass since they're normally lower population and zeds don't seem to function too well in the cold (according to movies) as the liquids freeze solid. Should also be able to resupply with fuel and quick mart style food once there. Possibly upgrade to a 4x4 truck with extra cargo room for drums of fuel and possibly a generator if one can be pried up. Look for potential 'red shirts' to scavenge for me as well and plan for a return to metro for full scale loot after 1-5 days depending on how quick the zeds turn and the military's ability to put them down once and for all. It's almost useless to have a plan past the first week until you get an idea of the spread and speed of the infection. Bunker isn't an option for me right now as I live in an apartment complex for now :p

Plan #1 - Zombie Apocolypse started a few hours ago and my alarm didn't go off; instead I'm awoken by some scratching on the window and a no-so-distant moaning of, "Brrrraaaaaiiiinnnnss."

I have a sling for my shotgun (20GA) and a holster for my revolver (.357 Magnum), so those would be easy to grab and carry. And would be more useful in the close quarters combat I'm surely about to encounter. I will jam as much ammo as I can into a backpack (can still carry and fight with a backpack) but probably won't have the time to get anything else in the pack. Also will grab a machete I have hanging in the garage on my way out. Then its just a matter of running, hacking and blasting your way to high ground.

Plan #2 - Sipping coffe in the morning and watching the news when the EBS starts screeching something about an infection and immediate evacuation of all urban centers. Reports of looting and shots being fired only a few miles away.

This time, I'm grabbing all the guns (everything from #1 plus my .30-.30 Winchester), cross bow and broadhead bolts, ammo, brass reloading kit and supplies, As much food and water as I can pack (including the perishables, I'll eat those first), machete, hatchets, old lawnmower blade, tent, tree stand and all hunting gear (cammo and camping), batteries, radios, flashlights, matches and lighters, fuel of all sorts, kerosene, gasoline, oils, and of course my dog. I'll pack all of this into my Jeep Cherokee 4x4 V8 and drive north. Find a nice little spot far away from anything, set up camp and get real retro... like 1800's style.

Plan #3 - Is that thunder I hear outside? A quick peek through the blinds reveals wave, after wave, after wave, after wave of zombies. A step outside the door is a death sentence.

Barracade the doors and windows, fill the bathtubs and sinks with water (you never know how long you'll be holed up or when the utility companies will be abandoned), charge any batteries that need charging while you have electricity, fill some coolers with ice and keep the refrigerator icemaker rolling as long as you have power (being in Arizona this is very important, especially in the summer months), grab the propane bbq grill from the backyard and roll it inside if there is a quick break in zombie traffic... and then hunkerdown until it is safe to move to a better location. It will be key to keep quiet and avoid firing any shots to attract unwanted zombie attention. Also, keeping the light to a minimum at night will be neccesary. It will be dangerous, it will be uncomfortable and it definately has a time limit. This is by far the worst case senario in my opinion.

Plan #4 - I just won the "Soldier of Fortune" 1,000,000-th subscriber sweepstakes! I am driving home with my dog in the grand prize mil-spec Hummer complete with extra gas tanks and snorkel, towing a camper packed with all the weapons and ammo you can imagine and enough MRE's to last a year. When the radio makes the announcement: You've got some time, but you should probably know the zombie apocolypse has begun.

I go here:
monte2_small.jpg

This is Montezuma's Castle. It is only about an hour and a half drive north of Phoenix. It is an ancient indian dwelling that has been there since the 12th century, and I'm guessing it will be there after the zombie apocolypse. It is protected from the sun and the rain and it has a sheer face that I'm guessing zombies would have a hard time climbing. Plus it's in the middle of nowhere. There is plenty of wildlife in the area as well as clean water sources. Honestly, I think I go here even if I don't win the sweepstakes with all the guns and goodies and just go with the stuff from Plan #2.

To be fair, I usually argue with my friends, that we should go to a prison. Lots of food and guns stockpiled, probably has its own power source and great defenses. But, the more I thought about it... you never know who will be running the asylum when you get there. The prisoners could have gotten their hands on the guns... and then you have more problems than zombies. IF in a fantasy plan you came across a fully loaded, completely empty prison... that would be ideal. But, I think highly unlikely.

As long as there is none of these big fellas, that is...

No doubt! It looks roomy enough for a smallish community, isolated in a good way, temperate enough for agriculture and a good candidate for solar and/or wind energy. Easily defended against anything short of ticked off humans with a crate of dynamite. Immediate needs would be available in the surrounding areas. Long term clothing could be challenging, but not impossible. One of the best sites I've seen!

ok...Montezuma's Castle is the best plan I have ever heard....we should all make a pact, if all hells breaks loose, we all head to this place! I never ever thought about a place like this. Amazing!

Absolutely! Everyone's invited. The more prepared people with supplies, resources and skills the better.

I was thinking about the prison and thinking, it's like a fortress which is what makes it such a good defensive position, but like we discussed, prisons have some serious safety concerns. So where could you find an abandoned fortress? And then I remembered Montezuma's Castle. There must be other places like this in the country. I mean I know we don't live in Europe where there are castles strewn all over the countryside, but mabye like a civil war fort or something? It would be nice to have a network. Montezuma is the closest to me though and any of you who can get here are of course welcome.

And, it's Arizona so it's pretty temerate year round. It's going to be a chilly 75 degrees here on Christmas. Come on out and see us! BYOA (Bring Your Own Ammo).

Most of the civil war forts are either earth works or museums now, or both. I've been considering the missile silo's as a bunker prospect but it's kind of hard to get the locations without being a 'serious' buyer. A quick question about Montezuma's castle though, how far is it to the Prescott rail line? Railroads would be quick transport with the chance of good looting potential as well. Down side is that it's a 24hour drive from me right now and with zed traffic... probably longer.

It's about 20 miles away from Cottonwood, which connects to the railroad lines in multiple directions. Prescott itself is about 40 miles away.

Good thinking, one abandoned supply train could last a long time. Hell, just one shipping container full of canned goods would be like a gold mine. Speaking of which... there's a couple of gold, silver and copper mines in the area too. Not that gold would be much good in a zombie apocalypse. Melt it down for slugs?

bait will be the easy part...theres gonna be a bunch of unprepared people, scared and trusting....easy pickins

OK, you're right. I am only begining my plan right now, and "forgot" that bit of info in my sudden preparation panic. If I had to
deal with an attack right NOW, all I'd have available are a couple of swords, some mirrors and cans of vienna sausages. Arg...I really better make time to write up a Real Plan. Army Surplus store is just up the street. What should I stock up on ?
