After reading the ecig forum daily over the last four months, I suddenly got an "aha" last night.

That is, though many say they are looking for a replacement for cigarettes, they really aren't. I myself want to vape the closest thing to real cigarette smoke that I can get. No substitutes.

On the other hand, it seems there are a lot of people, who, no insult inteneded, want to vape boiling fruit. Nothing wrong with that.

However, I believe it is important that a newcommer decide right away which way you want to go, at least in the beginning. No reason why one couldn't go both ways, eventually.

And I think this applies to both dryness and thickness of vapor, as well. Cigarette smoke is dry and not particurly thick, at least not as thick as a cigar. If you have excessive moisture in a vape, then it ain't a cigarette. And if I remember correctly, cigarette smoke is warm.

Seeking the best cig smoke replacement, I like dry, warm vapor, where most of the vapor goes straight down my throat into my lungs, with as little wasted vapor as possible. Blowing my head off is very important, and I need to be able to blow it off consistently :)

I don't want to vape a cigarette.

I want to vape something that tastes good (smokes taste like crap), has enough substance to it that I can feel it as I inhale, has just enough nicotine to curb my desire for a cigarette, and produces a nice little cloud of vapor.

Right now, I'm vaping mocha and almond joy. I also have some cappucino, and some tobacco flavor that's not too bad.

at first I was all about the fruity flavors. I felt like I was rebelling against the cig companies!! but then I started to miss the old flavors, as the fruity would get on my nerves after a little while. But now i drip my ciggy flavors on my atty and top off the carts with the fruity flavors and i find it to be quite pleasant. just a hint of fruity with a strong cigarette taste. yumm. (btw, i was never the type for the flavored cigs) my husband even thought it sounded gross until I made him try it. ...this is also good if you got flavors that you don't particularly enjoy, you can still use it without that strong taste :) :)

I thought I wanted a strong tobacco replacement, but my favorite stuff at the moment is the 555 which is pretty light, I also like the Virginia...my least favorite is the US Mix/Marlboro, which to me, is the closest thing to a "strong tobacco" flavour that I own.

I have only tasted half a dozen juices in all, but it seems I am leaning towards the milder tobacco flavours...which is a bit of a surprise for me...I'm also looking to try some RY4, which will be my first "sweet" flavour...not tried any fruit or or pudding type stuff yet, doesn't really interest me.

I think you've chosen a wise path. I've found I like a light flavor in the morning, like Kent, when I can't endure anymore food flavoring than absolutely necessary. I tried Virginia and would probably switch to Virginia if I ever got tired of Kent (which is starting to happen already).

But strangely enough, the Kent tastes rank later in the day, so I vape 60/20/20 Camel/Tobacco/RY4. Ruyan #4 is an excellent choice for a sweetener. But I don't care for RY4 by itself anymore than other sweet flavors.

At first I tried to replicate my Marlborough Lights. Just for fun, I included a peach flavor in my order.

The tobacco flavor wasn't quite what I'd hoped, but I found that I really liked the peach flavor and realized I was no longer limited to what cigarettes had to offer. (I'd tried flavored tobacco and enjoyed it, but it was more expensive and harder to find.)

A sweet fruit is not really good for an all day vape for me, so I tried French Vanilla Coffee from Nhaler and found my sweet spot. Coffee is a more savory flavor, like tobacco vs. sweet like fruits. I'm waiting for Drew to make cafe mocha in High voltage and I'll be all over that, as well. I still have days where I'll vape the peach for a few hours, too. I'm also thinking of trying a cola.

I have absolutely no interest in tobacco flavors any longer.

My husband, meanwhile, is still working on his ultimate menthol. Yesterday, I mixed up some 18mg menthol with 2 BIG menthol crystals and about 30% of a flavorless 60mg liquid in a 20ml bottle. It smelled like Vicks vapor rub to me, but he liked it! He said it was like sucking on a Halls drop, but he likes those. However, it still didn't do the trick for him when he was drinking at a party last night. I think he needs a higher nicotine or more tobacco flavor in the menthol or something. We got his daytime vape down, now we need to work on the drinking vape! Ironically, he knows he'd never want to have a menthol cigarette that strong of a menthol flavor.

It is so different for everyone. Why you smoked and what your pleasure triggers were play a big part in what you look for in flavors & strengths.

That's why I suggest people try at least one other flavor that sounds interesting. You may be surprised at what "trips your trigger!"

WDave - I'm gonna order some RY4 later on, I might try mixing a bit with that USMix/Marlboro, see if I can take the edge off it a bit (I did try mixing it with a bit of menthol, but I'm not really a menthol fan anyway, so it didn't work out too well).

I suppose another factor is as that my tastebud sensitivity returns, I may find flavours I like now, I'm not too keen on in the future...bit of an adventure this vaping isn't it. :)

I suppose it could be my taste buds...naw...its food flavoring, after all. Even with the Kent, I have to chase my morning vape with strong coffee :)

And at the prices for a little 5ml bottle, it's hardly going to bankrupt you trying a few bits and bobs that take your fancy..."apple" & "green tea" are on my list of "samplers" to pick up.

Well, I wish it were that simple :)

I actually started this post so I could understand the different perspectives about the STARTUP KITS people are recommending to newcommers (DSE901,Npro,510,etc).

It seems to me that some ecigs are better at producing hot, dry, thin, powerful cigarette-type vapor. While others are better at producing cooler, moister, more flavorful vapor than a cigarette produces. Hence the difference in desired vapes may be a major reason for the different perspectives, and resulting recommendations.

So I believe the choice of cigarette vs. fruity vapor should be a very important factor when choosing the first ecig.

Which ones are those? Maybe they would work better for my husband!

Gee...and I thought I had made enough posts about the 510/megabatt that I had become annoying :)

Although, Kristin, if I remember a thread in the cart mod forum, you may be vaping the 510 as well. What juices have you tried?

And assuming your husband is a smoker, does he really want to switch? I tried to get my wife to switch and that didn't work out very well. Big surprise.

He's been using a 510 for over a month now. He DOES want to switch. He was just as excited when we bought our first kits. It's just been hard to find something he's completely happy with - especially when he's stressed or out drinking.

We both have 510's but not with megabatteries. We use the straw mod.

He's tried:
Liberty Juice 18mg menthol
Nhaler French Pipe
Nhaler 24mg Nuport
Nhaler 24mg Menthale
Nhaler 24mg 555 menthol
Nhaler 24mg mint tobacco
Nhaler 12mg High Voltage w/ menthol crystals added & mixed with about 1/3 60mg unflavored

This last one was pretty close, but still didn't cut it while he was drinking last night - he was craving an analog. He can't put his finger on what it is - lack of throat hit or nicotine level, so I'm grasping at straws.

I'm about ready to order unflavored 48mg and add a bunch of menthol crystals to it -he's making me crazy!!

Hey Kristin...I don't know personally if it is any good, but I have a friend that will only vape menthol and he thinks that Janes Abandonmint Kick juice and TW spearmint are the best. I smoked menthol for over 40 years, but I really don't like it vaping. I love nhaler juices myself but I also love Janes toasted toffee!! Jane had paypal issues a while back and her store is at Personal Vaporizing Units and Accessories I can't say personally that it is good, but you might want to try a bottle. Who know! He may like it!

It just occured to me when reading this thread that I'd never even tried any of the tobacco flavors - and I've been vaping since August! I went straight for the grape flavor in an empty cart and never looked back. So I just now tried one of the tobacco flavored cartridges that came with my 510. Yikes! Back to "boiling fruit" for me. I love the fruit flavors ... and the caramels ... and the cheesecake ... Guess maybe I'm a 54 year old kid.

Well I've read the FDA is cracking down on "candy" flavors, BTW. Forum opinion seemed to be that menthol would be considered a "candy" flavor. So I won't suggest an off-the-shelf menthol.

I like wet-your-stick cuban cigar and 60/40 tobacco/vanilla. 24 mg for all. The tobacco/vanilla produced a fuzzy sensation on my tongue, though, so I gave it up. Still like the cuban cigar.

I like Kent from Rocky Mountain, and 60/20/20 Camel/Tobacco/RY4 from Rocky Mountain. I think they are all Ruyan. 24 mg for all. He could adjust the RY4 to taste.

The Kent is mild, with great throat hit. It does have a bit of a weird taste that takes some getting used to. He should be careful not to get the Kent juice in his mouth. It is pretty disgusting.

The combo is a bit stronger, also with great throat hit. Juice in the mouth has better flavor than the Kent.

I particularly like Ryan flavors because they don't seem to dry out my mouth like others I've tried. Most of the above flavors are difficult to find in stock at RMV. You will probably have to be patient.

Alcohol could certainly kill all aftertaste :(

HTH,
Dave
