for me i honestly think it was a sign... and this is coming from someone that is agnostic.. (lets not have a battle in beliefs)

i was having car issues and dropped it off @ a mom & pops' shop... the owner had some sort of gadget in his hands and i was seeing smoke (vape) come out of it.. each time he put it in his mouth.. as he was inspecting my car.. i honestly was dumbfounded..

he told me it was an e-cig.. i had noooooo idea what the hell he was talking about.. he briefly explained me how it works.. and i told him how much of a heavy smoker i was.. i didnt recall what model his was... but i just remember racing back home and hammering google on, e-cigs...

eventually i came across this website and did my dirty work.. a week later.. i placed my first order.. which was the ego-t starter kit... i had doubts.. i thought it was going to be some sort of placebo effect... but NOPE i was wrong.. from 06.06.11 onward i have yet to pick up a smoke..

i guess my car was meant to crap the bed that day... (to bad it was my head gasket though lol)

thought i'd share my story :vapor:

The first time I tried to quit smoking was in 2004. My doctor prescribed Zyban and I took it for three days. On the third day I noticed myself becoming violently angry at any minor thing. I just about took a swing at my brother for standing behind me.

A few years later I tried Chantix and it worked, for about a month. The second time it worked for three months. The third time it worked for a week.

I started researching stop smoking aids and read about the patch and the gum and some guy posted on a forum somewhere that he had bought an electronic cigarette while he was in China and it worked great. I searched all over and there were no US distributors at that time. So I paid $150.00 to import a DSE901 from overseas, tried some juice from a new vendor who was opening up in America called Johnson's Creek and it worked. For awhile. I got tired of poor battery life and gave it up for awhile.

Then I started dating a girl who didn't smoke. I researched it again, and the eGo was new on the market. I bought one of those and have stuck with it ever since. The eGo is long gone in favor of bigger, better mods, but it was the device that got me off real cigarettes.

Thats a good story and i'm glad that you were able to quit using these wonderful devices.

As for me i used to be a PPD smoker started when i was 14. Then in 2008 my son was born and i used the cold turkey method. That lasted for about 6 months and i started smoking regularly but i was only smoking half as much. And in 2009 my daughter was born so i called the Colorado quitline and they gave me some patches amd someone to talk to. That lasted for about 2 months with an slip up every once in a while. After that i tried gum, so gross, and i tried chantix (untill the suicidal/homocidal thoughts kicked in) and stopped taking those tabs.

Saw a mall kiosk and started doing some reasearch about the e-cigarette. I found the ECF and was directed to liberty flights. I got the riva and some juice and the rest is history. My wife is happy, my body feels bettter, and i'm happy.

I was weezing at nite and coughing up some nasty stuff. I tried to quit smoking for years. On aother kind of forum, I saw an add for e-cigs. I researched e-cigs for about 6 months and chose the cheapest one that gives a lifetime warranty on the batteries and 10 cartomizers for $15.90 with free shipping and quit on the day they were delivered.

I have a similar story: I hadn't heard much at all about e-cigs until it just fell in my lap one day!

My husband is a heavy duty mechanic, the company he works for is opening a new shop and they brought in another employee from out of town until they can hire locally. That guy was using an e-cig and had quit analogs 2 years ago, the hubs asked lots of questions then came home and told me all about it.

I had some serious doubts too. My husband is not a smoker and has bugged me for years to quit, it's been a big fight over the years-I don't think he really gets how bad the addiction can be. I thought this was just one more thing that wouldn't work but I'd have to put myself through the misery of to keep the peace. Boy, was I wrong. I haven't even wanted an analog since the day I got my Volt in a month ago.

Thanks for sharing yours!

Honestly it was ads on satellite radio for Smoke Assist or Smoker's Savior or one of those rip-off outfits. I came here before I called them and was warned off. I still ended up ordering an M-401 knockoff kit for $60.00 though. I was determined to quit using these things. I did too, the very second I got that crap 401 kit.

I had been a smoker for 40+ years. We were on vacation back in October of 2009, and a friend had an electronic cigar. I had never seen such a thing, so when we got home I started doing some research, and stumbled onto the ECF. After doing a bunch of reading here, I decided to order a kit from Vapor4Life. Mostly out of curiosity, I guess, but I had begun to have symptoms from the FSC cigarettes they'd mandated here, so I knew in the back of my mind I had to do something. 4 days after I got the kit, I was done smoking, much to my amazement.

When I decided to start, it didn't have anything to do with my health (thankfully), but had more to do with the state of Florida deciding to increase the cigarette tax. That really ...... me off. I didn't want to quit smoing, but I didn't want to continuously support my state's errant spending. I had heard about ecig's from a friend, looked them up and figured I would give it a shot. That was about 3 years ago and I have been happily vaping since. Things have improved dramatically ecig wise during this time. GLad I stuck with it.

My cigs are STILL fairly cheap here, but I decided to quit anyway after 18 years. I love smoking, but let's face it: it NOT healthy in any way. I had heard the ads on the radio and seen the kiosks and finally decided to take the plunge after my daughters expressed that they wished I didn't smoke. Did a little research first and thought I was getting a deal for a kit at $80. I bought my first kit online... It's not a horrible kit, but I wish I would have found the ECF first!

Just as a sidenote: my cig of choice is (was, lol) Pall Mall - here in Portland, I can find them for about $4-4.50/pack... a recent trip to WA made me go "WTF???"

wanted to quit for a while but never got around to it. eventually got me released from ROTC because of an "asthma like" bronchial spasm. .... 9months later after working out at the gym one night and not having cigarettes my buddies and I went to get some gatorade and smokes at 7/11. saw a big sign that advertised xhale 02 ecig and told my buddies we should try it. of course we didnt and just bought a pack of marlboro lights. the next day i went to a tobacco shop looking for something similar. i bought a chinese brand one that they had and got ripped a new one for a total of about $65. i thought i was getting a deal. then i went to 7/11 to get the xhale 02's as well. used them for about a month or so and went through so many refill cartridges before i decided they were too weak and finally did some research online and found ECF. thanks to ECF and hours of staring at the forum i followed the advise and raves about the REO and took the dive. Havent looked back since. now im modding, testing, and fiddling with everything. i also became an advocate for ecigs to all my friends and have successfully converted a handful of them. I've also met some real cool people at the local meets. wish i found out about ecigs sooner.

Curiosity.

I had tried to quit my pack a day habit a few times, unsuccessfully. Eventually decided quitting wasn't for me and stopped trying.

One of my good friends, told me about her friend who was using this device called ecig and thought it was great. I looked it up on line and decided to check it out. As soon as a received my Blu kit, my cigarette consumption dropped without effort and I thought: WOW!

My interest was picked! The rest is history...

This is probably gonna sound stupid but here goes. I have a brother who is a year older than me and we have a secret competition going on (It's so secret he doesn't even know about it) where we (and by we I mean I) have to be cooler and more progressive than the other. One day he came home from work and had an e-cig he bought at a local smoke shop. It was just an over priced 4081 carto kit nothing fancy. So me being the younger and at this point cooler brother i had to have one too. I went to a different smoke shop and paid more than him for what I thought was a better model (which lasted about two weeks before taking a crap). I started reading around and found out just how much of a piece of crap I bought but in my darkest hour I found the forum and the rest is history. Almost six months later now and I've upgraded significantly and am still vaping where as he has completely quit and has now started smoking again. So I guess I win right?

40+ years of smoking.

I guess it was the cost that got me to try E-cigs. Started in 1968 at around $3.00 a carton. Yes, a carton at the PX.

Then after retiring from the military, it wasn't worth the 30 mile round trip to the PX any more with cigs at around $30.00 a carton by then.

10 years later tho, with all the law suits from people claiming they didn't know cigs were harmful, and the government (State and Federal) raising taxes on cigarettes, ostensibly to cover the health care costs of smokers, (WTF) and me downgrading to "Basic" cigs from "Premium Brands" they were up to around $60.00 a carton.

Going thru 2 packs a day, averaging a carton every 5 days.....well, that was running me around $360.00 a month. Wow! That's a car payment!

Well, now I am fully retired from my last job and the military. I still can't afford a new car, but at least I can pay the bills and eat.

Here in NY they cost 5.65 at the Indian reservation and about 10.00 in any other store. On top of that some lovely legislation just passed making Indian reservations collect full state taxes on "american made cigs'. The indians replied by discontinuing to sell "american made cigs" so If i was still smoking i'd pay 10.00 a pack for my marb smooths or pay 5.00 a pack for Native made cigs.
