I loved smoking and didn't want to quit. But I hated being a slave to them. I wasn't a heavy smoker, I could make a pack last 2-3 days. I was a closet smoker, I never smoked in the house or around the kids or any one. I didn't usually smoke during the day. I would smoke one on the way to work and hated that I suspected everyone could smell me. I didn't want to speak directly to anyone or hug anyone cause I was embarrassed. Most of all I hated having to go outside every night and sit on my picnic table and smoke. Whether it was freezing cold or hot as hell I did it. My right ankle always hurt because of the way I sat every night for years.. outside smoking. I couldn't go to bed early cause I had to smoke.

I was a fan of Deadliest Catch and was watching a show one night and one of the guys was smoking an e-cig. I remember seeing something like that in a local mall so I went to check it out. I did do a little research but didn't want to take the plunge without actually seeing it. It was a smoking everywhere kiosk. I spent $108 on a singe batt, an atty and a couple boxes of carts. I was told that the carts would last as long as a pack of cigarettes. I wasn't very fond of the taste but the whole concept was intriguing. My atty quit working the next day so I drove back to the mall and they gave me another. I found out very quickly that one cartridge did not last near as long as a pack of cigs. So I went online and researched. At first I just wanted to know if I was doing something wrong to make it last no longer than it did. I found this forum and quickly learned that I had bought a wayyyy over priced pos! I bought some juice from totally wicked (also way over priced) and began dripping into my carts.. then I bought a 510 kit from cignot and started dripping onto the atty. I've upgraded several times since then and one day plan to get a vv mod. I currently have some ego batts, a riva batt and a handful of box mods.

I still continued to smoke while I figured this vaping thing out and slowly build up my stuff to where I was comfortable in the knowledge that I had the right setup to sustain me. After about 4 months I was able to stop smoking effortlessly! That last month I would smoke then vape and finally got to where I wanted to vape more than smoke. I can't imaging going back to cigs. Even if I quit vaping one day I have no desire to smoke those smelly, nasty things again!

If I was someone who wasn't inclined to do the research I would have not gotten very far with the kit I started with and would have continued to smoke. I love being able to make my own juice!

I smoked on and off (mostly on) for 30 years! The only time I could ever quit was during pregnancy.

A close friend of mine started about six months ago and tried for five of them to get me to start. I refused, argued, and questioned every aspect of it, trying to find a good excuse to not do it. But one day, I finally got tired of hearing "Dude you need to get one", and the rest is history. Thanks Justing, Mark, and everyone else who encouraged me!

I first saw an ad online for the Trio 51 and ordered it a couple years ago. Yeah, I got scammed and they tried to bill me 100$ every month, but I quickly got the charges reversed and got to keep all the stuff they sent me. They were horrible e-cigs. But they sparked my interest enough to seek out this forum and find other, better, cheaper, e-cigs.

Me, i was on the patch and still smoking the occasional cig-it just wasn't working for me..
previously i had quit for like a few months after going through the whole patch process so i was going
at it again due to pressure to quit from my wife and daughter-
I watched the movie i think "The Tourist" with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie
and he was vaping on an e-cig in the movie..i recalled my mother mentioning them years ago and figured, "what the hell"
and googled machined away
so, when people ask, "what got you vaping?"-i reply, Johnny Depp

I had been wanting to quit smoking for years, tried the patches and gum but they didn't even come close. Then I tried some of the prescription stop smoking pills (zanix I think), that almost worked but not quite.

Then went on to try switching to a pipe (less addictive additives in the tobacco) but nobody around me could stand the smell and it was messy. Even did the step down methods going to lighter and lighter cigarettes.

Just couldn't ever find something I could get past that last hump with.

Finally E-Cigeretts arrived on the stage a few years back. I did tons of research for over a month and finally picked what I figured was the best product I could get. A nice little thing that was about the same size of a cigaret and even had a cute little red light on the tip to make the illusion even more real.

Surprise surprise, it actually worked, I was finally going to join the ex-smoker ranks, boy was I happy.

Then more bad news, the batteries just couldn't handle the strain. The first one died the first week and the second one the next week. After spending $150 on the starter kit and cartridges there was no way I was going to spend another $20 every week or so for batteries. So back one more time to the real thing.

Then after talking with some friends in an online game I started hearing about some of the new hardware that had come out in the last few years. Back to research, I knew the principal and that it would work if I could find some equipment that could stand the strain and a source for e-liquid I could afford (limited income now days).

I am proud to say that after 40 years as a tobacco user I am now tobacco free an I ain't going back no way no how (or over my dead body as I told family members). :)

The turning point for me was getting an eGo-T tank system with 1000ma batteries that could handle the strain (when I'm not using the pass-thru to save the batteries) along with the growth of the DIY suppliers bringing the price of e-liquid down to reasonable levels for my budget.

To the community at large I give many thanks for all the years of hard work it took to bring about the developments and support we all can now enjoy.

THANKS

I dont even want to know why you were standing on the toilet.

You must be a woman to think I said "on" when I really said "at." I don't suppose standing "at" a toilet makes any more sense to a woman than standing "on" a toilet.

I live a God-centered life. I only stand "on" a toilet while I practice preaching.

I smoked about a PAD for around 15 years then quit with NRT lozenges. I maintained for 4 years but found I could not relax at all, and missed smoking so badly I would actually dream about it...crazy huh?

Anyway, I went back to smoking little cigars (inhaling) and found they seem to do more damage than stink sticks. After fighting with moderate chest pain, I started checking out ECigs as a buddy of mine let me try his once a few years before. I purchased (what I now know to be) a knock off 808 kit from a local smoke shop with the promise of one drop of juice equals a cigarette crap!

I found this forum after discovering the smoke shop salesperson was full of hooey. Now I have my spark plug, and am seriously about to delve into making a puck. I like the modding thing!!

Im about to turn 30. I had been smoking cigs for about 10 years. I got married to my wonderful wife in June 2010 and for about a year prior to that I was a closet smoker. The guilt of lying to my, now wife, about it for so long was eating me up inside. I did quit when I told her I had. It only lasted for a few weeks though and the smoking a couple here and there while we were apart turned into something just awful.

I would sneak a smoke whenever I could. When she would jump in the shower I would run outside and smoke. I was excited to go to work so I could smoke behind her back without the risk of being caught. I was more than happy to run errands so I could smoke while I was out. A few weeks before the wedding I aired out the dirty laundry and I told her of my deception. She actually took it much better than I thought she would (did I mention that I love this woman!) and I started smoking in the open again.

A few months later, in October, she said to me "have you checked out these E-cig things? I keep seeing commercials for them on TV" So me, being the mad researcher that I am, started looking into it. Lo and behold, I find the ECF and on October 26, 2010 I got my first 510 kit in the mail. I quit the cigs that day and, aside from a few here and there in the first couple months, I have been quit ever since. I haven't even bummed a smoke in over 4 months now. The last one I tried tasted so bad I tossed it after 3 drags!

my demon was black n milds..(inhaling) was going through almost 2 packs a day.. $4.99 each...

yes black n milds.. lol

Black n milds are what started my road to nicotine! In my stupid teenage years I would partake in some "less than legal" smoking with my "friends" I was embarassed that I would always cough my head off so I thought I would "practice" with some black and milds. What a bone head move  After a while the BnM's were killing me so I switched to marlboro lights. I still facepalm whenever I think about how it all started.

I got into Ecigs from a online friend of mine who did all the legwork, research, trail and error and finally talked me into actually looking into it and coming here and seeing what everyone was saying. I was a 2 pack a day menthol full flavor smoker for many years and I have not regretted quitting at all. I think I have had 3 or 4 analogs since I quit and the last couple I did not even finish they just did not do it for me anymore.

Edit: When she first mentioned Ecigs to me my reaction was yeah right I am not going to sit around and suck on some plastic stick what good is that going to do me. I was wrong...

I smoked a pack a day or thereabouts since I was a teenager, and getting into my 40s I was 1) starting to feel the effects - chronic sinus problems, wheezing at night - and 2) sick to death of being treated like a third class citizen as a smoker. I was also mostly a closet smoker, so I had all that nonsense to deal with as well. I stumbled across a YouTube video the promised "smoking anywhere" and it occurred to me that this could solve all three problems. Researched, started with 510s and graduated to a basic eGo, which I'm still happily using today.

Well, I've been smoking for a VERY long time in my life. Last time I had fresh lungs was when I was 10 yrs old. A lot of people around me were worried that I would die from cigarettes. Tried everything from gum and patches but it just made things worse. An old acquaintance suggested that I could use an e-cig. Which caused the "?" on top of my head and was told that there was a kiosk in the mall I should check out. Tried it out and it wasn't bad to me at the time. Bought the kit a little bit after that.

I got extremely sick earlier this year. I've had colds/strep throat/bronchitis and always smoked just as much. I always ended up being sick for longer, and it wasn't easy on my throat, but it never stopped me. Early this year I got a combo of walking pneumonia and a sinus infection. It became physically impossible for me to smoke. One drag and everything was on fire and I couldn't stop coughing long enough to take another drag. My boyfriend brought home a disposable e-cig for me, and I discovered I was able to vape and get my nicotine without all the discomfort. I was better in less than 2 weeks, compared to a month or more while smoking cigarettes with colds and such.

I used nicotine lozenges to get me by after the disposable ran out, and immediately ordered a 510 kit. I've had a cigarette here and there since then, but I've easily smoked less than a pack of cigarettes since March. Maybe not even half a pack.
It wasn't even my intention to quit smoking. It was something to make my lungs more comfortable and it turned into a total replacement. I still have a slight cough that I believe is due to my sinuses, but the lack of burning in my chest and the lack of hacking is amazing. I've woken up every day with a burning chest since I was a teenager. Until now!

When Arkansas switched to FSC cigs. They gave me headaches and tasted like stale s***. I knew about ecigs but I thought they were a fad. I took a chance on them and ended up quitting for a little while, then I got a job pipelining and it was too dirty to keep a PV on me so I took up smoking again. Now I'm back to ecigs I *think* I'll be able to stay on these for good.

I deal with the public, and there are a lot of non smokers. Add to that the legislature in Mass used a logarithmic scale when they decided to tax loose tobacco (price went from $16 a pound to $75!) and that I have been smoking for 35 years. I still smoke 3-5 a day, but vape a lot more than that. Also, was having chest pains that went away after the 5th day of vaping!
