I started in 2018. this year i am out of touch with beginner gear, so I figured the best way to go would be to ask people what they started with, and if they stuck with that device a while.

When I started, standard response to a newbie was either an EGO set up [no real dominance of any one clearo] or a vamo "if you want to invest more"

I started on EVODs, and upgraded within a week, it was enough that I knew it would work and I could spend more

woooo So you are a very experienced old smoker.
No, actually... I used this device a couple of times, maybe for one or two months, than abandoned it on my desk. I just returned to vape this January, during a trip to Berlin. [emoji1360]

My first device was an ego with a CE4. I used it a year and a half or so before moving on to greener pastures.

It was willpower to get off the cigarettes using it (I was only using 18mg nicotine in it) but I managed a full switch successfully on one and I've been vaping since.

Today I have a Provari 3 and a Revenant Cartel on my table. . I'll always be a low wattage vaper, but I enjoy the battery life on the two battery mods.

Kanger T3s with eGo-C Twists on 14 April 2013. Got an MVP and nautilus later. Went back and forth to cigarettes until 01 May 2017.

I was only able to quit for good once subohming became a thing, rebuildables were easy to get and performed well, and cheap ejuice was available online.

My first device was a 510 cig-a-like around 2010 or 2011. It didn't do much for me. I used it a few times and then forgot about it. That's just reminded me of my initial visits to this forum. Everyone was talking about how much better the 510 cartridges performed when you replaced the filler cotton with a certain type of tea bag.

A couple years later I decided to give vaping a more serious trial. I went for the latest and greatest equipment: an Ego Twist and a Vivi Nova! It was enough to get me off cigarettes, but I didn't really settle in to vaping comfortably until a few months later when the Protank came out.

So there's my journey. Vaping tea bags to Kayfun Prime.

To answer the OP's question. I've pretty much stuck to device/atty for quite awhile, though there have certainly been change throughout the 8 years since I bought my first cig-alikes, which I only used exclusively for a couple of weeks.

Here's a summary:

My first device was an unknown brand cig alike.. Very soon after I found ego's and ego tanks, which was major improvement at the time. Within 3 months I invested in a home made wooden squanker and shifted to mostly squankers for well over a year.....with "510 atty".

Within a year of vaping I tried a vari device and evenually did shift to all vari mods as I slowly switched to using"carto tanks" and fazed out my early adored "mech"/unregulated devices and the "510" atty. It's been several years now and I continue to use an assortment of vari devices, even some of my oldest models.

I continue to vape very low watts MTL and with the quality of inexpensive devices these days I simply pad or replenish my arsenal from time to time with the sizes and shapes I most prefer. Pico and Wisemec CB 80 are good examples many may recognize.

As to the atty evolution -- I've tried a selection, including early and recent MTL rebuildables, but after a couple years with carto tanks I did change to mostly using Nautilus BVC coils for some years with the original Nauti's and then the Kabuki. Now I mostly use Zenith coils, though I have not totally abandoned my Kabuki's or a couple RBA's just for the fun of switching around.

I have tried a few pods and an AIO's -- but this old school vaper prefers a small vari mod and a topper with my old school drip tip collection.

For me it was a cig a like, close to 8 years ago, then joined ecf. I then moved to cartos and mech mod, but never moved to egos and whatever types of vivis or clearos, instead I moved to genesis rebuildable tanks 7 years ago and have been doing the rebuildable rta route ever since.

my first ecig was the 1st gen one, bought it on ebay about 12 years ago,
it looked like that and I think it was "no brand". Quality was pretty bad with smelly plastic, cartridges were so bad - they tasted almost like the normal cigs and they only lasted for like 30 puffs. Battery was bad too, didn't last more than 2 hours. Overall, my first impression from it was awful. Comparing to what's on the market now, it's a paradise for new vapers nowadays.

    ps
call me an old smoker and I'll find you and will make you cry

Several years ago I bought some cig-a-like from a mall kiosk. No research or smarts on my part. Became disappointed in a hurry over its battery performance. Fast forward to three months ago and I bought an Armour Pro / Baby Cascade tank. I continue to use it with ceramic heater. However, I've moved on to a Dead Rabbit RTA. Changing cotton is far cheaper than changing a pre-made coil.
