Very first vape was a disposable N-Joy ciga-like. Wasn't great but worked well enough that I decided to research a little more into e-cigarettes. First beginner setup were Volt ciga-likes from Smokeless Image. They got me off of cigarettes, but I quickly grew frustrated with the poor battery life and small liquid capacity.

Became more active on ECF, and decided to advance up the vaping ladder. Bought an 18650 mechanical mod (AltSmoke Silver Bullet) with a cartotank on top. First gamechanger which resulted in much longer battery life and longer time between refilling the tank.

A couple of months later, I purchased my first regulated mod, a Provari. Probably the biggest gamechanger of all because now I could change my vaping experience on the fly and adjust the power to the different flavors that I was enjoying.

So in hindsight after 7 years of vaping and using dozens of mods and tanks, the biggest gamechangers were (1) getting an 18650 battery device and (2) larger capacity juice attachment, and (3) advancing to a regulated mod.

Bought a 2 pack of Njoy disposables in 2014. One worked the other didn't. They were crap but got me interested. Then a Ego 1100 mah kit with 2 batteries and 2 CE4s, much better. I ordered an MVP2 kit with an iClear 16s before the Egos even arrived. Big improvement. Haven't smoked since the Egos arrived.

I also started on the Kange EVOD batteries and cartomizers. Withing a few weeks was on to other more powerful/flexible devices I user with the EVOD cartomizers, Kanger Protank, and then finally the Subtank. Things really took off for me about a year after using the Kanger Subtank.

So initial devices (all using Kanger EVOD and Protank toppers):

Kanger EVOD
Innokin MVP
Itaste SVD
Joytech EVIC
Vammo V6

Then I stepped up some when the Kanger Subtank came out:
P4U IPV Mini with the Kanger Subtank (this is where things really started to take off for me)
P4U IPV D2, D3 (w/Subtank)

From then on, I vaped the IPV D2 with the Subtank for a few years, also used an Istick 20w with the EVOD for MTL when at work.

Since then, I've been all over the place, but currently don't buy devices or toppers that aren't squonkable. At least for now. ;) I vape DTL (mostly), but still like MTL from time to time, and even use pods when travelling or as backup devices.

We have a LOT of options these days.

I don't recall the name but the device was a cigarette sized battery with and dripper atomizer with a foam insert. I had two, one was a button start and the other started on inhalation. The same company sold juice. I messed with that for around six months off and on. In September of '13, I found the ECF and never looked back at the original hardware.

Blu technically but they didn't satisfy me enough to give up cigarettes. My friend sold me his mvp 20 watt with an Aspire Nautilus and that's the combo that worked for me. I used that setup until I bought an iStick 50 watt with an og Kanger subtank and liked that even more. To me that was the pynical of vaping because the vapor was hot and filled your lungs. The tank was massive, the coils lasted forever, it was easy to work with and the device lasted a solid two days on a single charge.

i started with the cig-a-likes
clayton, blu, greensmoke, njoy, mystic, markten, vuse, too many that I can't remember (ast manager of gas stations in my area, so tired all of our cig-a-likes)
then some ego types
and my baby TECs (flashlight mod/vamo cloneish/nightstick to beat people with), my poor baby fell apart after much abuse.....

I started in Nov. 2013, using a JoyeTech 510 Double Starter Kit (2 320mAh batteries, 2 short 510 attys, box of 5 foam-filled combination cartridges/drip tip, and charger). Used it to help me totally get of the smokes just shy of 2 months later. Bought a bunch of the longer 370mAh batteries and discovered the little disposable Vision Nano Clearomizers. Stocked up on 125+ of them then, as they were being discontinued.

While still using the above, in April 2014 I discovered the eGo-T 1100mAh batteries and Evods. BIG improvement in battery life, and the Evods actually had replaceable coils! Yippee! IIRC it was that Sept.-Oct. that I tried an Innokin iClear16D clearomizer and loved it because of its larger capacity and the coils were an improvement, to me, over the Evod ones. It was a game changer for me!

The Innokin MVP2 Shine Edition "Butterfly design" was my first mod. (By the way, I still have it, and it still works well.) The battery life was great, it was VV/VW, had a puff counter, could be used to recharge other devices, etc. Bought 6-7 more of them in various colors, finishes, designs, etc. Eleaf Mini 10W mods (stealthy little things) were my next additions to my growing vape collection.

From there, it was the usual MTL tanks (PT2 & PT3 Mini, Subtank Minis, TopTank Minis, KFL+ "shorty" tanks, eGo Ones, etc.), various mods, RDAs, RTAs, etc. Developed a nice collection of various models of ProVaris, as well as enough starter kits, mods, tanks, RBAs to help friends, family, and others who've wanted to make the switch to vaping. My vapocolypse stash is constantly growing, as I find new mods and tanks that I personally love and/or that others may like. I can confidently say that no matter what the FDA and/or states do from now on...I can vape very comfortably for the rest of my life and hopefully help many more people switch to it, too. It's been quite the journey from that little JoyeTech 510 Starter Kit! I just wish I'd started on it long before I actually did.

My first vape was a Juul that I bought at a gas station. The nicotine was too much for me so I only used it for 1-2 weeks. Now they also sell 3% --wish they had back then. But it got me off smokes. Unlike other smoking cessation aids (prescriptions, gum, patch), I knew right away that vaping would be doable for me.

Now I mostly use a Kayfun Prime clone with either an Aspire NX75-A, Eleaf Pico 75W, or Lost Vape Mirage DNA 75C. And for something more portable, I have an Aspire Breeze and the $1 Blu Myblu (I dump the Blu eliquid and use my own). I'm pretty situated with the Kayfun but I am on the lookout for a tiny device to replace the Breeze and Myblu.

I started in 2018. this year i am out of touch with beginner gear, so I figured the best way to go would be to ask people what they started with, and if they stuck with that device a while.

When I started, standard response to a newbie was either an EGO set up [no real dominance of any one clearo] or a vamo "if you want to invest more"

I started on EVODs, and upgraded within a week, it was enough that I knew it would work and I could spend more

@Yuriduoo

If you wanted to praise the Pairyosi PY-03 HD Vape Pod : large-screen design is the trend of small vape then maybe you should have, instead of hiding the links to the site behind something else.

I don't get it. Maybe i'm missing something.

By the summer of 2012, I had a vivi nova on each of the ego batteries.

The Chinese new year of 2013 had many vendors out of stock on the most popular models of tanks and replacement coil heads. Out of necessity, I learned to recoil the Vivi nova and have been rebuilding ever since.

Cheers

Actually it was when Joyetech "improved" my favorite dripping atomizer to death (lr 510-T) that I went looking for a RDA that could be made to vape the same. The A7 mini proved to be THE ONE. :)
Still using those same RDAs yet today. (can't improve on perfection)

    Strictly a MTL atomizer though

As for mods that I've tried & threw in the trash, I could probably write a book.

Mods that I've tried & kept, 3 stand out above all the rest.
First came the Mako Midi (late 2010). Only uses a 14500 battery, but a workhorse mechanical none the less. (still have it & use it often)
Second came the Provari, no comment needed. (still have them too)
And third the Caravela. Absolutely the best mod ever made.

This one was made in 2012(ish), and I use it all day-every day.

I started on a cigalike from Volcano. It cost around 120.00 for 2 batteries and a bunch of the cartridges (that didn't last long). It was enough to stop smoking. Couple of weeks later I got a Phoenix cigalike then a 510 kit. My first 'mod' was custom made, can't remember the name of it but I couldn't handle 5 v, lol so I sold it. The biggest change was getting a Provari. I bought many Zen and genesis as well as Ihybrids. I hated rebuilding and still do. I build but I still hate it.

Like someone else said, I have more than enough to last the rest of my life and help some others, no matter what the FDA does.

ETA, I had one of the first sqounkers, a Mr. Puffer. That ruined it for me, that thing was awful. I had a beautiful Caravela but didn't like the bottom button. Owned Zhalers, Baby Bullets and just about everything else over the years.

    Been vaping for 7 years
    --Started with Vuse.
--Then - Johnson Creek's own branded Vea --ego like device with a twist off filter thingy. Also tried the Blu.
--Moved up to the Johnson Creek tanks
--During the Johnson Creek period of time I purchased MANY egos and used Evod glass and the CE5 plastic tanks.
-- Also used an iStick 30 watt with a rechargeable battery
--Bought a Kanger nano subbox and subtank actually bought 2 - in purple and in pink -considered that my first real mod. Went through 3 or 4 of those -including upgrading to the Toptanks. The threads wore out.
--Then purchased a Kanger Mini toptank which I REALLY liked.
-- Finally gave away the nanos and all the old stuff I had- kept the toptanks and branched out to rebuilding my own coils on the Kanger and then -- Bought a neebox which also used the rba piece
-- Started using other brands of RTA's --Geekvape, Digiflavor, Siren, IJoy mostly
-- I still have the Kanger toptank. Now I have a few boxes that I use but do not really use the kanger toptanks and use larger capacity RTA tanks that fill from the top.

I stopped smoking analogs from day 1 of vaping and I was a VERY heavy smoker. Did not really totally enjoy vaping (but I stuck it out) until a few years in when I got the nano.

Seven years later and I am a very happy camper and use 3mg nicotine.
