What's the deal with these oversized drip tips that manufacturers are now putting on some of the various atomizers that they are selling?

Does a tip this large really serve any kind of a purpose? I can't believe any of these atomizers flow enough air that it requires this big of a diameter drip tip.

Just a passing fad?

Most of these tanks certainly do have plenty of airflow and the drip tip is the bottleneck. Catering to direct-to-lung hitters... I'm not too fond of them and think that all manufacturers should include 510 drip tip adapters in the package. Unfortunately some don't.

If you consider how the trend has been towards sub-Ohm vaping and fancy coil builds powered by multiple-battery devices, then absolutely you need all the airflow on offer.

Even tanks can now come with coils that a couple of years ago, only the most dedicated would bother to build.

The reason is that not everyone smoked as you did; i'd nail a cigarette in under 3 minutes, and then two more. Break time was timed by how long it took me to smoke three.
So newer devices with more air and the ability to lung-hit give me that same feeling i used to get from smoking.

It's just that when i started vaping, the batteries and tanks/RDAs were pretty crap and i'm glad that has changed.

I agree with you but the low information vapers lime them because they are used in cloud comps.

Give me a simple drip tip as seen on my avatar and i'm happy.

Well, that's where I guess I look at this whole vaping thing differently ... I vape to keep off cigarettes (been working for me for 3 years now) ... I guess some others are more interested in winning some cloud blowing contest.

Oh well ....

Not everyone likes trying to suck a golf ball through a soda straw.

To each their own.

The drip tip isn't the bottleneck. Just take a look at how narrow the chimneys are in comparison to the drip tips.
Most of those fat drip tips are like 12mm on top and narrow down to 7-8mm at the bottom, which makes no sense to me.
So yeah, most of the time its only astethics with no practical reason at all. Or at least I dont see it...

The only way to prove it to you is for you to try it. If you have a collection of drip tips, look at the diameters of the bores, and try different ones, on the same atty or tank. See if you notice any differences.

I use a wide bore derringer style drip tip on my SV rda clone because it's easy to drip through. May be it's not considered wide bore compared to the latest fashion. I just tried a traditional longer drip tip with a smaller bore. I think i prefer the taste and vapor tecture from the wider tip.
