I was a pretty happy smoker too until I was around 35 and really started feeling the affects of it. I knew I needed to make a change but didn't really want to at first. I was 39 when I found out about ecigs. I took to it pretty quick and cut way down but it took me years to get where I am now.

When you smoke 43 years, 2 1/2 PAD, you're a confirmed smoker. I had so given up trying to quit until e cigs came along and I'm not sure those cigalikes from '09 would have done the trick. Around month 6 my 6 cigarettes a day started edging up and the hassle of charging batteries and cleaning atties was starting to set in. I thank God I got curious about snus. That calming effect is what I really needed.

It was kind of funny, my mom didn't smoke, my dad a pipe for awhile and an occasional cigar but no cigarettes. In fact the only person that smoked was my aunt who I'd spend a couple weeks of the summer with and she was a chimney too. She'd light one off the last one, all day long. I often wonder now how she was teaching her young elementary students. She probably created a ton of smokers during her career. She lived in an old mining town so I'm sure they also had plenty of additional support from their parents.

Can't say it hurt her life expectancy too much and I just got a wow moment. She lived to be 82 after all those years of smoking. Her mind went but her body lasted a long time. When she was born in '03, life expectancy was 52 and even when she died, it was only 78. Let the ANTZ explain that one.

The wow moment came when it hit me on writing this, could I find her on the net. Not only did I find her, but There's a picture of her tombstone and a picture from the spot in the cemetery. How weird is that? I never knew her husband died 7 years before I was born either.

This indeed has become an amazing day. With my discovery of my aunt's grave site information, I checked on one of my best friends who died as a Navy pilot instructor in '72 on the same site. Sure enough he was on findagrave.com with a Navy picture of him plus other pertinent information. I knew the grave yard, but could never find his stone. I'm hoping next trip I'll be successful. I always felt bad since I told him he could get into the Navy program after I passed all the tests to be a pilot except my eyesight. Two years later he was dead in a mid air collision with a Marine plane.

After that, I dug out a POW bracelet I bought nearly 50 years ago and did a google search. I found out he survived after being shot down near Hanoi and spending 6 years in Hanoi Hilton. He was a Navy pilot who was lucky not to die on ejection (took his helmet right off) and both legs were fractured. He was sure they'd shoot him since he couldn't walk, but they carried him out.

As I said, a very productive day.

My aunt was lifelong smoker and lived to 95. Didn't die from smoking either. Her body just gave up and she passed in her sleep. But she was a farm girl raised on everything fresh before the widespread use of pesticides and steroids. I truly believe we are killing ourselves anyway without the harms of burning tobacco. Have you seen the size of boneless chicken breasts these days? Holy roid rage! Got to cut them in half so it doesn't take three hours to cook. :glare:

I agree Rebel, there's so much rap about food that deserves the "We just don't know" that they give e cigarettes. I always have to give it a gallows laugh when they talk about needing decades to determine if e cigs are dangerous when they pass laws like the requirement for FSC in cigarettes like they did in the early 90s. Nobody tested the effects of the fire suppressants they put in the cigarette paper. One of the main reasons I tried e cigs was the FSC. I was definitely being affected by the chemicals. Put it in PA cigs and I was hacking constantly. It was so bad that I only bought cigs in VA for over six months. The coughing went away (other than your normal 43 year smoker's cough). Then VA went FSC and the hacking came back. At least it got me to try e cigs.

Interesting stories you have Roth. I didn't know about findagrave.com. I will have to check it out. Both of my parents ended up with copd from smoking and it killed my mom. My dad is still alive at 79 but I don't see a long future for him. He constantly wears an oxygen tube. Those two are what drove me to find ecigs and then when those didn't do the trick alone I was fortunate enough to fine out about snus on this forum.

I'm hunkered down for a lazy fourth, just me and the big dog. Just got done updating my credit card in all the online sites I could since my last card got compromised. Now I need to call those that don't have online access. I've established a list that I just go through to insure I don't miss any.

Finished up the graphics on the Spyder. Boy does that bike get attention.

Yeah, they were almost pretty easy to apply. ;) They use to be a wet apply but the new ones are three layers. You pull the bottom layer off after you line everything up and put some masking tape on to anchor them. There was one oops when it got a bit too hot and the graphics started separating from the top peal off layer before it was applied to the panel.

It ended up with a line which bothered the heck out of me when I did it, but it's only noticeable if you're really looking for it.

Same here Hitt. Some people like to celebrate way longer than needed. But those are the people who don't have to work today. I should have closed up the house and turned on the air but it was a nice night and I hate the bill. ;) Oh well, guess I'll be tired at work today and try to catch up on the sleep tonight.

I'm going to try to remember to take a vacation day next year for the day after the fourth. There were two cops running radar on the way to work this morning. I thought at first that I was going to get a ticket but the cop turned on his lights and went ahead and pulled in front of me on the highway and got the person in the left lane. Talk about my heart skipping a beat. I did get a nice surprise when I got to work. It is one of the driver's birthdays so there are bagels and cream cheese from Panera.
