I had to post this story. One of the poker players was asking about when the 10 week tourney would be held. I wasn't sure do to the holidays, but got his phone number to let him know. Unfortunately, after I dialed his number, I hung up before it registered in my phone.

Tried to find him in FB, no luck. Did a google search of his name with the name of the town and came up with the following plus over a dozen accounts of the story-

Here

Now I don't know if it's the same person, but I'm certainly curious enough to ask the next time I see him.

:D Well, if it's the same fellow, apparently the wedding took place because the one person that i thought might have his phone number thinks he got married a couple years ago. If not him, who knows. maybe he's still a bachelor.

What we have to look forward to, hopefully (and hopefully this works.

Yup, it's the dead zone Hitt. I think the lack of our star TV has finally taken its toll. We've lost the gals, we've lost the electronics guru and we've lost the mechanic. I had an interesting lunch. I had to run to the bank to deposit some checks so I stopped at and olt hangout for lunch. I ended up being the center of conversation with all 4 other patrons, the bartender and her boyfriend, the co-owner of the hotel. I had the smokers asking about my PV and the non-smokers asking about my scooter. Here I just wanted to get a salad and do some configuring on my phone and I ended up not doing a thing other than talking.

I got myself signed up as an active secret shopper today, me and my bright ideas. There were a couple convenience stores that I pass on my way to moms that they were looking for "shoppers". I did a few a number of years ago, one shopping for high end cars which was fun, so I said why not. I'll tell you why not. I've done more than $20 worth of work and I haven't even stepped onto their property.

Instead of covert shopping, I'm doing an overt audit 4-5 pages long. I wanted to back out of them but my belief that a commitment is just that stopped me from rejecting the job. I probably have 4 hours of work to finish this and I'll be known as the bad guy if things aren't satisfactory. Fortunately, I don't frequent either very often. However, I've done easier stuff for better money.

I'll be a little more selective next time around.

Internet, of course. My gf did a few and then some popped up that I found interesting so I applied and got them. I've been getting emails for years and just blowing them away after I started volunteering, then this came up. I have a friend that is on disability. She works a few hours a week at a tree growing business but it looks like that is dying off so I thought something like this could add a few bucks in her pocket once she gets a computer (hers died). Didn't want to talk about it to her until I was a bit more up to date on my knowledge, thus the interest.

I just loved the story on smokeless which stated that use was climbing (not really bad unless you listen to the clown that made it sound like it was worse than smoking), then spent almost all the story on smoking and smoking's health risks and costs to society. Of course CTFK got their pitch in to haver Cali give them more money so they can fight the war on tobacco.

Finished the mystery shopping. It was not nearly as bad as getting up to speed on what had to be done. 15 minutes in the store and recording notes times two with another 20 minutes in posting the information. It probably cost me three hours, but I've already figured out how to streamline the process. I set the questions up on my cell so any future trips to the same chain only has to be altered and I avoid printing out anything. A tablet can be used for additional thoughts.

I quickly got an invite to a big regional convenience store chain that I'm going to do after poker tomorrow. $30 plus free qeusadillas and drinks to drive maybe 5 miles out of my way home. I also spoke to the scheduler tonight, a French Canadian about a problem on the one stores location. She was really hoping I could do a group more and sent me an email with locations. I put together 7 of them in a 100 mile loop that might net me a guesadilla party and about $110. If nobody takes them and the weather looks good by mid-week, I'll hop on the scoot and enjoy a little ride.

They're also looking for shoppers for luxury cars, just up my alley and much more lucrative. That's an $80-100 per shop deal. It's also fun jerking around with salespersons and test driving. The only danger is test driving and finding out how much you like the ride. I did a BMW shop and could have ended up buying their SUV. I don't see that being a problem in my current situation. I'd rather be on two wheels.

It sounds like you are in for a good time. Not to mention a free lunch and a little cash.

I took the kids out shopping last night and am finally finished with my wife. We still have some to do for her family. The weather here has been unseasonably warm and it doesn't seem like it is almost Xmas.

    Hey guys, I'm back now

What happened was this. I have been having chest pain for going on six months now. I also have a fairly chronic cough. It will go away for months at a time, then randomly come back. My ear nose n throat specialist said it was from post nasal drip. For the first time, lately I had the cough AND the chest pain...and...I of course assumed it was lung cancer and that I'd be dead in six months. I had my dr appointment yesterday and he did several chest xrays and showed them to me and explained that of course a radiologist would have to look at it, but he was 99 percent sure there was NO sign of cancer. I know, that ct scans are better for this sort of diagnosis, but I am going to decide to happy with the xray (pending a letter from the radiologist, of course). Anyway, I had thought it would be better for me to drop off the face of the earth, forum wise, whether than to drag a bunch of x smokers thru my cancer battle.

    So...there it is.

right now my kids are both in the basement playing on my dad's old apple IIe computer. He left it for my son before he died. A few weeks ago, my son, who is 10 asked if he could try to use it. I said that it was almost 30 years old and had been sitting for over 20 years, but ya, go for it. He figured out how to put all the drives n stuff together and it WORKS!! It works pretty much the same as it ever did, in fact. So why can't I get a home pc to stay working for more than a few years??

I'm glad you're ok axl. I thought it was odd that you had been away so long.

The Apple IIE was the first computer I ever used. That's amazing that it still works.

I've been hoping that gutter and Skrymr would show up too. All I want for Xmas is for TV to let us know that he's ok. I sure miss the old gang too. I think I'll email Vaporer.

Darn Axl, glad to hear things are looking good. One of the problems with researching things in this journey is that you learn things and look at studies and reports. I think it was a CDC report from a few years ago that the highest percentage of cancer victims came from the quitting segment of the population. Now that made some sense to me since people having symptoms have more of a reason to quit smoking. Then they find out they have cancer. Also, there are an awful lot of quitters and I don't remember the study indicating how long after quitting that they had the problem. I know my mom was asked a number of times whether she smoked and she was like 92 at the time. They just want the opportunity to check that box.

That old Apple outlasted Steve Jobs. I have an old Magnavox Odyssey in the box (I'm sure none of you young ones remember it), the first video game. It even preceeded pong. I'll bet that still works if I could find a TV with the old antenna connections.

Yeah Hitt, I don't know what I'll do on Revue. Since it's discontinued it's a tough call. I can get a Roku (spelling) for the same price and it's popular and supported. I need to put something in Va so I can drop Directv. I find I watch it less at home since FIOS came in and it isn't worth having it just for VA. I have internet down there with WIFI and TV doesn't get watched that much anyway.

I feel the same way about TV. Last I heard anything was 11/11/11 and that was just a happy birthday PM. Hopefully Skry and Gutter will pop in sometime before years end.

Hi Everyone. I'm still around. Things have been busy here. My hours got switched at work again.... Now I'm working noon to 10 pm. It doesn't leave much time for anything on work days. My mom has been battling lung cancer. They removed part of her lung, and she's had a few chemo treatments. Her last one will be on 12/21. The prognosis looks good, but she will have to be checked periodically to make sure it doesn't come back. On top of all that I also just got married on 12/12/12. I am hopeful things will settle down now after Christmas.

Axl, I'm glad things are looking good for you. I'll be praying they continue to.

Roth, I think I know what the Odyssey is. I've heard of them at least. Goodwill would be the first place I looked for a tv to hook that up to. New in the box though, I'm not sure what I would do with it. I don't think I could resist playing it.

    Just taking a breath with:
