Thanks eratikmind! I am so impressed with this forum and I am grateful to have found it. This is the first time I've really truly been able to imagine quitting smoking, ever.
My first post! I haven't even started vaping yet but I plan to order a starter kit this week, once I wrap my head around this whole concept a little more. I've vaped a tiny bit - my dad bought a couple Greensmoke starter kits (the kind that look like analogs) for he and my mom a couple years ago, and she wasn't really into it so he gave it to me. I messed around with it for a few days but never really got the hang of it.
Ultimately, my goal is to cut waaaaay back on smoking. Once I get that far, I'll decide whether or not to go further (eg cut out the nicotine altogether, stop completely...)
I'm a little overwhelmed by everything. I have been rolling my own for almost 20 yrs (American Spirit organic), and I am thinking I should start with an eGo starter kit. I need a strong TH and a decent nicotine level to start. I want to start off smart, not cheap. I've already come to terms with the fact that this may cost me more than smoking, since I'm a roller.
Anyway, there are some initial thoughts as I try to build my post count between reading the miles of excellent and daunting text all over this forum.![]()
Exactly ! I am actually doing less nicotin than at first, but still love my vaping and do not have any intenition of quitting. On April 14th, I am four years analog free. Have been vaping nearly 5 years. My plan is to vape FOREVER.
! I started smoking at the age of 9. One pack every two weeks. By 12, I was up to PAD. For many years, I was 3 PAD, until I had my first heart attack at 26
. Then I cut down to PAD and stayed there, (except when I drank, or got over stressed). At 43, I had over a dozen heart attacks, in one year. I was in the hospital having stints put in, with 3 nicotine patches on, and still sneaked out for a smoke
. Often I would have to take a nitro tablet when I lit up.
My cardiologist informed me that nicotine constricts the blood vessels. I hated my morning ritual. Every day, I would cough, hack, and spit repeatedly for about an hour, with a couple of nose blows, and a couple of cigarettes in between. I had an aunt, and a step-mother, who smoked 3-5 PAD. Both died of lung cancer. Like them, I knew smoking was killing me, but I could not stop
. I tried everything. Or so I thought. My sister got a cheap gas station analog look alike, and let me try it. I was underwhelmed. A friend with a similar nicotine addiction, also tried them. He couldn't get through an 8 hr. day at work, with only a few cigarette breaks. He got an ego kit to use at work, all day. He assured me that it was better. I went to a local B&M store, where I was allowed to sit in a comfortable environment, and try out different flavors, for over an hour
. I bought my last pack of cigarettes on 1 Mar., 2013. That same day, I got an ego starter kit, with several bottles of juice, and a spare tank. The staff recommended I start with 24 mg. of nicotine. I wanted to be sure to satisfy the urge, so I got 36 mg. of nicotine. Big mistake! I came very close to taking a nitro tablet. I immediately got some 18 mg. juice to dilute my 36 mgs. down to 24. After one week, I bought 18 mgs. and 24 mgs. to get a 21 mg. mix. I may or may not lower it to 18. Right now I'm happy with 21. It's only been one month, but WOW! What a difference. I still cough, hack, and spit, once or twice in the morning, but not for an hour. I can breath! I can taste food! My B&M store is on the second floor. I run up the stairs to get my juice. Who knew I could still run.
, and didn't help with the stress either
). The only real concern, is the amount of nicotine I use, in a short period of time. I was a chain smoker, and now I am a chain vaper. It never occurred to me before, to count the number of puffs on a cigarette. It's 20+ for a 100. I smoked more than one cigarette per hour. I vape 2 or 3 puffs every 10 or 15 min. I don't know how they compare, in the amount of nicotine consumed in a 24 hr. period. I do know I feel better every day. I quit smoking! I don't care if I never quit vaping.
I can live with that. Let me re-phrase that. With that...I can live!It is confusing at times. So much info.
You could try disposables at first. Just to get a "feel" for it. Blu and Njoy are widely available and don't cost much. I wouldn't recommend Blu's kits (I bought one, I dumped it in two weeks... yeesh) but their disposables are decent. Njoy, I didn't care much for myself but that was because it was much like a "full flavor" cig and I prefer lighter. But you could play around with those while getting "up to speed" on what kind of kit you want.
Though eGo is very popular. I might move to one myself in time..
My plan is to vape FOREVER.
I just read your milestone thread in the success stories section, I LOLed at the end. I can't even fathom the idea of 'accidentally' quitting something I have done for so long. Congrats to you!
