Ralph I'm so sorry. I do hope for the best!

Me too Jan. This is the same daughter that miscarried at 22+ weeks, then had terrible PPD and had to spend 10 days in the hospital getting her life back together. So, there are doubts about the outcome, and fairly fresh memories of terrible angst. Unfortunately neither myself, nor her two sisters could muster up the "oh that is great news" response she was looking for when she told us. :( This also puts a dent in my relationship with the GF. She wants to travel, and perhaps have a kid of our own. This doesn't bode well.... sigh.

How can she think about traveling when she had so much trouble the last time.
I bet you are worried sick. :(

Talking about my girlfriend wants to travel, and or have a child of her (our) own. With me being the grandpa of the child of my unwed daughter.... That puts a serious financial/time dent in my future with her.

Yes...... worried sick.

Yeah, for a brief moment in time I had a whiff of "happily ever after". Who knows what the future has in store... I guess.

that's sad but we have to face it

Yep. There is no turning from it.

I can understand why you are a big gruffy...I'd be a little miffed too.

But that is me.

Daughter was looking for a rallying cry of support. It was hard to meet that need. I finally told her that I still love her, but that it was going to take some time for everyone to get used to the idea.

I hope she understood that you love her but worry about her and you don't quit understand how she could do this to herself...to the whole family.
