I have been using the same njoy Ncig since Feb. I don't clean it , but when it is not in my hand I store it atomizer end down so the eliquid runs toward the cartridge. It seems to be working ok for me.

Same with my NPRO at 5 weeks. Rarely ever drip on it unless it is really dry. Got a 401 last week and don't do anything different with it.
Today is the first time I have cleaned them because I'm dropping the flavorings for awhile.

To all of you saying you don't clean, do you mean that you don't even 'rest' it and let it drain out? or do you mean that you just don't boil/steam/pepsi bath/acid bath/denture clean/ultrasonic clean, etc?

No draining here. Draining seems even more pointless to me than an actual cleaning, since the problem is burnt-on gunk on the atomizer coil.

I don't understand the worry about liquid just sitting in the atomizer overnight.

I am starting to suspect that "vaping style" (and maybe atty model) is more important than anything else in atty longevity.
I've read so much conflicting anecdotal evidence here.
Coke bath is the answer - cleaning with coke killed my atty
Steam cleaning is best - steam did nothing
Ultra sonic cleaners made my atty like new - Ultra sonic did nothing
On and on.
Clean/don't clean and cleaning methodologies don't seem to be the issue.
I think the issue is how you vape:
Vape constantly, sucking on the cig 24/7 VS take a few drags and put it away for an hour. If we extend the light bulb analogy: A light bulb can last for years if its rarely turned on and can burn out in a much shorter time if its on almost constantly (or perhaps turned on and off frequently).
There may very well be differences in sturdiness between 901, 801, 401, etc attys.
I sure as heck don't know, but I think that we may learn more by focussing on these issues rather than lemon juice vs coke vs just blow it out vs don't do anything.

seems to be one consistent answer with atomizers, they are not consistent. there should be a higher standard for these, but if they lasted too long there would be no profits to be made. as far as posts, whether it is 10posts or 1000posts take advice as advice not as gospel. i've gotten some very good advice on this forum without checking on how many a certain person has made. :)

I had made reference to his post count only because if he had that many posts he had probably been vaping for several months vs several weeks. Therefore, he must have gone through many atomizers at a rate of 1 per every 2 weeks. I think anyone would be a fool to equate post count to intelligence.

Anyway, another thing I always do is leave a cart on my atomizer at all times. Doesn't dry out that way maybe?

I have been using ecigs since October 08. I used to smoke 30 a day. I vape probably more than I smoked - esp in the evenings, when it is like a pacifier. I have never cleaned an atomiser and have lost just three since October out of the tons of ecigs with single or double atomisers I have bought (approx. 20). It's the batteries I have problems with, lol. I have lost about eight of those.

This is a fantastic thread!!!

OK, I've been vaping 26 days and haven't lost an atomizer yet. I vape from morning to night. Maybe 5 second draws and maybe about 10 to 15, maybe 20 draws an hour. I rotate between 2 or three atomizers at a time. Mostly use a USB and clean them each night with the canned air and let them drip with cart side down. Oh, and I NEVER use the fiber in the cart, I drip on the atomizer.

Isn't this amazing how many haven't lost an atomizer and how many different answers there has been. To me this is really encouraging!

One atomizer (have 6 spares) with M402/401 using for one month without any cleaning and not even blowing the air thru it.
And it's going and going and going... knock on wood just in case

I too lag on cleaning even blowing the air thru and letting them drain at night. I do this maybe every 2 weeks and my atomizers have been going for over a month on my 801 and 901. I tried once to do the vinger/boiling in hot water thing, the atomizer never worked again for me, now I vape and when I think about it maybe every couple of weeks I'll blow through the atomizer and let it drain.

Hmmmm...looking for a pattern throughout these posts. (1.) I, too, never leave an atomizer without a cart...I always keep a cart on it just to protect it...(2.) and I also rotate them. I have three that I rotate. Haven't lost one since I started vaping April 1. I also don't overload the carts when refilling and never drip onto the atomizer...and I don't drag on them if they start to get too hot...just warm. If the atty starts to get hot, I stop and rotate to another. About once a week, I'll blow through the atty, but don't try to clean them anymore. I use EVOs all the time, and love them, with TW liquid and PS liquid...love the Pina Colada, too. Anybody finding any patterns with people and how they maintain their attys?

Once a week I take my atty out, rinse it in cold or warm water, usually turn on the warm water and it starts off cold and gets hot. Then I blow out the atty and let it sit battery side up to drain, then the next morning I put a couple drops on the atty so it's not too dry, don't want to risk it burning out because of that. Other than that I've been using the same one for 4 and a half weeks now. I should buy a spare at some point in time just to be safe. Oh and that's for my NPRO/4081

Okay, I never draw on a hot atomizer, i.e. if I feel any heat at all on my hand. I do however intentionally get it hot without cart if I suspect minor flooding. I'm careful not to overfill cart, but get it well moist. A bamboo skewer is a most useful tool for playing with pen carts btw. I don't drip, but have in the past without issue. A 1 dram dropper bottle is excellent for a precise and accurate drip btw2.

I'm very conscientious about keeping the atomizer moist, but mostly because it gives a better hit (more flavorful and vaporful.)

Keeping three available makes life much easier.

the first thing i did when i got my attys was boil them, drain dry then reprime them, in a zip lock in the fridge, the first atty i got lasted 2 weeks bt i destroyed it wanting to see want was init, the other 2 ive been using(different flavors) lasted 6 weeks till the vapor production fell
i still have them and plan to boil them to see, but in the mean time i broke out a spare and have been vaping on it a week. i have noticed a break in period till they give optimal vapor
other than that first bath i never clean em

I have made several 801 battery mods using battery connectors. I have one or two dead attys.

The connector center post + connection is insulated from the - connection outer threads with a plastic insulator. The material is very thin and not very durable. This insulator can melt. If the insulator melts the atty is shorted!

Just a word of caution for those who like to boil attys.

No flames please, no need to explain how boiling works and has never caused a problem.

I just wanted to mention the plastic insulator in the connector.

I only drain my atomizer when it starts to "girgle". I found that I was killing more atty's by finding inventive ways of cleaning them. The design of the 901 reduces the likelyhood of clogging. The 801's on the other hand get very difficult to draw after awhile - this means not as much air is passing through; causing the coil to over-heat. My latest 901 atty has lasted over 2 months now. It has gone longer than any other atomizer I have ever purchased... it is also the only one I have never attempted to clean.
