Soon after I started vaping(over 1 year ago), I got into rebuilding with genesis atomizers and SS mesh wicks. After learning to setup with mesh and all the trial and error with different kanthal and wick rolling methods, I found the perfect vape. I was completely satisfied with this setup and saw no need try anything else. Then I ran out of mesh and ordered some. In the mean time I was reading about microcoils and cotton and decided to try this setup. Most everyone who reads this knows what happened next. The mesh I ordered never got used. I use cotton and microcoils on every device I own, and purchase new devices that will make this setup even easier to use. It seems that a large majority of vapers use cotton due to its price, performance and ease to setup. Who else has stopped using mesh and converted to cotton ? Will there ever be a better material cheaper and easier to work with than cotton ?

same here. started with mesh a couple of years ago and was blown away with it compared to carts & dripping attys that I was previously using. then I tried porous ceramic and thought that this was the way everything was going. I started the fc-2000 thread and hardly ever used mesh anymore. the ceramic was indeed superior to mesh and never thought something else could top it. well micro's & cotton comes real close if not maybe even better. I still have a genny or 2 still set up with ceramic but find bottom coiled devices along with micro coils & cotton and now even hemp slightly more consistant and overall a better experience.

Oh the irony of this thread ... I am a cotton builder who converted to SS Mesh just yesterday  Like the OP I did use cotton for everything, but I felt like I should at least try SS Mesh in my Gennie, so I did, and I like it. What I didn't like about using cotton in my Genesis was that I had to change my wick too often, and it was annoying me. And since I had heard that mesh wicks last longer, I felt motivated to try it.

I will still continue to use cotton in my RDA's and bottom coil RBA's though.

Depending on what juice you can go months with out changing a wick.

I'll just sit here, meshed gennie in hand, ready to welcome you back to The One True Vape when you've grown tired of mocking about with swapping wicks every other day.

The blasphemers who cultivate their wicks on the soil shall once again see the light shone by a wick dug from the depths of the mountains and forged in fire.

I will not make my wicks from that which is used to remove make- up, clean puss from wounds or wax from ears.

That's a great line WattWick ;) !!

I've spent months with SS mesh in an AGA-T and it's great. Very clean taste, lots of flavor vapor and TH, coil and wick last a long time, easy to clean. But they leak and you never know when the coil will short, which isn't an issue at home but you have to deal with it when out and about. Gotta try a dual coil sometime.

Micro coils and cotton in my Trident and IGO are great too. Very aggressive vape in the Trident with dual coils, lots of vapor and TH always but flavor is slightly modified and the wicks have to be changed often. It doesn't take long, but it has to be done. Coils last a long time.

I've had a Kayfun clone for a few weeks now and it works great with a standard spaced coil and 2mm Ekowool. I was not able to get a good setup using a micro coil and cotton, but I'm sure that's just my lack of experience with it so far. People have great results with a vertical micro or nano coil wrapped with some kind of fiber like a dragon coil but I haven't tried it yet. I get very good flavor, vapor and TH from it too. I don't understand how to control juice feed or air flow properly yet, but I will figure it out.

So far the AGA-T has been the hardest to learn to set up and the RDAs the easiest. There is no 'best' out of these for me. They are all different. Each have their good and bad points and I do not regret becoming familiar with any of them. I will not be leaving SS mesh behind anytime soon, unless I figure out the Kayfun and it turns out to be sublime

Somehow I doubt it though ...

I still use mesh in my F3cta tank and I think its great, been Vaping for 3 years and while starting off I ran into plenty of road blocks while using mesh. It took me quite a bit of time to figure out a setup that not only works but is reliable as well. That being said I don't consider myself a pro, but bouncing ideas of other vapers played a big part of how I build my coil. 3 rap of ribbon wire (equivalent to 28g) 0.8omh 400 mesh....it wicks, doesn't flood, and I get to the bottom of the tank with no dry hits. Some call Shenanigans, I say practice.
