My cotton outperforms my silica and provides a taste alarm if wick to coil interface or wick speed isn't up to par. Cotton is great from 0% VG to 100% VG. Tastes great and makes massive clouds.

Difficult to achieve ideal wick coil interface with my silica. Silica does have a clean, if not muted taste. An under performing silica wick can taste clean; but vapor production and taste will be substandard.

Cotton easily defeated mesh in my house. Mesh is finicky w/ juice viscosity and wick coil interface.

Fun to try all three and suit yourself.

Getting mesh to give a really full flavor isn't easy on an AGA-T, I've been there. I eventually bought a reduced chamber cap for it and started enjoying it a lot more. To be honest I got scared off a little by the CrVI oxidizing discussion so I started using silica sleeve on either wick or SS rope which worked quite well.
Now I'm on a kayfun and my AGA-T is collecting dust. I found this video to get somewhat of a mesh taste back by using cotton:
The Tin Man Coil - YouTube

I will give it a go once my cotton needs replacing again. I change it out every 4 days or less as I just judge it by the nic saturation and flavor.

I used mesh for months and know all the benefits from using it, but the ease of changing out a cotton wick compared to dry burning and getting rid of hotspots, was the deal breaker. I don't want to start bashing SS mesh and stir up the anti-mesh vapers, but the question of safety of inhaling SS mesh not being clear is another factor. I find the flavor and vapor produced from cotton and microcoils is just as good as SS mesh.

when mesh first appeared we didnt know better and the only way to set it up is all this oxidizing and juice burning and it worked so this was shared and become the way we understood it had to be done,

fast forward a bit and it is actually being understood the over torching and heavy oxidation isnt really needed like we thought and may actually cause the reliability and ease of set up with regards to things like shorting to go down.

this is not to say some atty's truly are harder to set up then others, with the agi series pretty close to the top of the heap for aggravation.

i do notice very small details make the difference, and you can see things like - is the top post as far away from the wick hole as the neg screw? as we all know uneven legs on a coil make for uneven heating and hot spots.

is the center posts screwed/locked into position or will it move,? I have seen a couple of the cheaper ones now where the center pin will freely move or reposition themselves when screwing them onto the mods. causing the wire tension to change which just happens to always be the first or top coil.(where many report having issues)

while i will not say mesh is care free in many cases it is the set up itself or the fault of the atty more then a failure of the mesh causing many of the problems newer rebuilders face.. in very few cases with a better designed atty do I have to baby sit the wick, and usually after a tank or 2 the coil no longer needs any adjustment.

I try almost everything at least once....trying cotton at the moment, not sure I like it ... I also tried mesh, it's ok
I believe ceramic (XC-116 or XC-132) to be best option, after a quick once over with a torch it's steralized and has no (none what-so-ever) side/by/after/before/distinct taste

I've only had my RSST for about 2 weeks so I keep trying out different setups. For the past few days I had a good mesh build with a 4/3 wrap. Wicked good, tasted good etc...

Last night I got bored and tried a dragon -

But it didn't vape well so I wrapped a micro and threw some cotton through it. I really don't know which I prefer but I'm leaning towards micros and cotton. I need another RSST so I can try different setups at the same time.

My dragon didn't vape smooth either.
Your pic reminds me I need to try the kissing dragons I read about the other day.

My buddy that works at the local B&M gave me a cobra tank with a broken drip trip because they couldn't sell it like that. I immediately put ss cable and 300 mesh in it and its been through 4 tanks in 1-1/2 days and I love it to pieces. The cobra's not all that and a bag of chips, but its got a small top cap and it works.

On the other hand I did this...

I like/use both. SS lasts a short eternity and cotton out performs everything else that I've tried. I can't stand silica/ekowool. I have not yet tried hemp or peaches and cream but I will before too long. :vapor:

Soon after I started vaping(over 1 year ago), I got into rebuilding with genesis atomizers and SS mesh wicks. After learning to setup with mesh and all the trial and error with different kanthal and wick rolling methods, I found the perfect vape. I was completely satisfied with this setup and saw no need try anything else. Then I ran out of mesh and ordered some. In the mean time I was reading about microcoils and cotton and decided to try this setup. Most everyone who reads this knows what happened next. The mesh I ordered never got used. I use cotton and microcoils on every device I own, and purchase new devices that will make this setup even easier to use. It seems that a large majority of vapers use cotton due to its price, performance and ease to setup. Who else has stopped using mesh and converted to cotton ? Will there ever be a better material cheaper and easier to work with than cotton ?

This has been my experience exactly! I run micros and cotton in my genesis attys now.

I use mesh in my gennys & cotton in my Reos. Cotton is good for RBAs & RDAs, but mesh seems to be the way to go for gennys.
I am now lookong for something for the wife's Pro Tanks that won't flood or gurgle.
Saw a video on this & am going to try it. Hope it make s the wife happy. Happy Wife Happy Life.

Later,
Louis

Haven't given up on Mesh tanks, but haven't done enough to get proficient at it.
House seems to be like a Zoo most of the time and I don't do well around animals - human or otherwise.
I have decided to take a long vacation from SS atomizers, at least until I can get some quiet time.

Substitutes include everything from Clearo's to Ithaka's and KayFun types. Wicking with both Silica and Cotton - application dependent.
Don't like the idea of changing cotton every 1-2 days any more than fighting with SS Mesh. Kayfuns work for a few weeks without issues.:)

Mesh was the first thing I used when I was learning. I think that was it's downfall. I hadn't gotten it to the point yet where I was getting the vape that I wanted from it. I hadn't tweaked it to my liking. That's where I left things. I moved on to other wicks and now I'm under the impression that you can't get a good vape with it because that was my experience with it. I was just thinking the other day that I may just order a sheet when I'm ordering something else somewhere and give it a shot one day when I feel like messing with it on a whim. Not sure when that's going to end up happening though.

Do you feed the cotton into the wick slots on this build or use it like a dripper?

I'm running ss mesh in all my gennys at the moment and even in my Russian... Once I get the desire to I will rebuild my kanger with ss mesh. Silica is just bad for you IMHO. I have organic cotton as I had debated using it in my Russian but decided against it as mesh seems to work great. I'm looking into getting a RDA soon... Just because I don't have one. I think I will use a combo of ceramic and mesh in a dripper and see how that goes, as I had no luck with ceramic wicks in my zens.
