Christ, where to start? You're better off looking at the Top 100 over at the Nexus. Perhaps I could answer questions or provide opinions on specific mods you find there...

What's TG?

And yeah once you get to a certain early point in the main quest dragons will hunt you. No worries; that many more bones and scales with which to make armor.

When I wrote TG I was abbreviating for Thieves' Guild. Just completed its quest line last night - which was neat enough. Possibly not *quite* as cool as the DB :D

I'm playing a sneak-about sort or character. It wasn't until recently that I discovered it was Lydia's fault that I couldn't sneak anywhere. Now if I keep a companion, it's a certain lovable/hate-able jester - who probably sneaks better than I do. One thing I didnt realize until recently too is how easy it is to level up the pickpocket skill. I started using it with great frustration - how many times do I have to quick save and quick load to steal something that (at the time) I can't even fence? Well, if you're hidden to the person you're pick pocketing (don't have to be hidden to everyone around you), jewelery should be 70-90% to steal. It appears that the trick to progressing the pickpocket skill isn't how many things you steal, or how difficult they were to steal, but rather only the value. So jewelery has high value, is easy to steal and is easy to carry. Until you get to pickpocket 70+ (and with Theif stone) it seems that every necklace or ring stolen gives a new or at the least half of a new skill level in pick pocket. Once I discovered this it took me about two hours to go from Pickpocket 2[?] to 100.

I started a new character yesterday - an Altmer destruction mage. Dual castin' bandits to a crisp

LOL This is exactly what I rolled to start. A sneaking mage, stealthily moving about until suddenly BLAM! DUAL CAST FIREBALL!!

I found it is really easy to level sneak by just squatting everywhere except out traveling. Sure you are slower but who needs to be in a hurry except when you can't fast travel to a location?

I was thinking about making an orc two hander (which would be a first for me - picking a 'fighter' in a RPG game) but I can't understand the concept of not sneaking. Are you supposed to have so much confidence from your armor rating that you just run around dungeons, proclaiming "Hey! I'm Here!" with heavy metal boots on? :)

I rarely sneak, unless the situation demands it of me. My main character is an Altmer destruction magic using beast, but, I also specialize in light armor. Enchanting to 100, super enchanted Glass Armor = I am unstoppable. Very little enemies give me a trouble (playing on Adept a.k.a. Normal difficulty), aside of maybe some Ancient Dragons or high level Mages and Dragon Priests.

If you use a mage and wish to live, armor might be a necessity.

At lower levels you won't have as much confidence in it, hence why I carried a shield as well early on. Shield bashing things to death is actually kinda fun. You really just have to make sure you put some perk points into your armor skill, it makes a huge difference. The physical damage reduction cap is 85% which lies around 560-570 displayed armor value, magic resist is 85% also.

You might want do consider going with dual wielding over a 2 hander, that way you can level your weapon skill with a shield early on when you're squishy, then move on to 1 shotting everything but a dragon (where I'm at right now with mine.) Seriously my "Breton Brick Wall" just runs through dungeons laying waste to everything, I've gotten to the point where I don't even loot anything but dragon priest masks and whatever quest item I need.

Yeah, my wife is a little irritated with me right now. i've been sneaking (RL) to play during the days after work and whenever she gets on the phone. Completed Mages and Companion lines and bouncing around all over the map. i've started thieves questline. I need to concentrate on following through on some of the things i've gotten started. 2-3 pages of miscellaneous quests. I haven't built up enchanting, smithing, alchemy or anything but archery. I made a few stupid choices with perks being spread out a bit but none of that matters, i'm loving this game.
