Anyone find a good money making method early game? Trying to get $5000 for the house in Whiterun. I'm only lvl 5 so far, but I just got owned by vampires in a cave I stumbled into on the way to the tree quest for a lady in Whiterun.
The way I got money early in the game was to collect all the armour and weapons from your kills and sell it basically, and also do the companion quest helps out with getting money quickly.

Alchemy is an excellent way to make money. Ingredients are almost everywhere, and are free (in the wild), and if you get it high enough and apply some of the 'Raise Potion effectiveness' % (via perks), you can make a pretty penny with potion making

I've 36k gold at the minute, saving up for the 100k achievement :D

There are ways of getting a free home... but, it's not spoiler-free. PM me if you wish to know where to get a free home.

That's what I'm trying to do, I wasn't able to play as much as I wanted to this weekend and I have a vape meet next weekend. I did join the Companions, though.

I was debating on if I should try to raise my alchemy perks first or concentrate on my stealthiness perks. Hey, I am not opposed to spoilers, I'll shoot you a PM, thanks!

I almost forgot to say another easy way to get money is actually chopping firewood or mining that's all I did really besides doing side quests and I am at about 15k. But I'm in no rush to get all the achievements on my first play through but I should definitely remember to level up alchemy since I hate that I always run out of potions and so do the stores lol .

Alchemy is a must have for Mages not specializing in Restoration spells (i.e. Me :D ).

Another GREAT way to make gold is Enchanting. I am leveling the hell outta it and I make items that are worth BANK!

Of course, good ole fashion dungeon looting is probably how I make the most cash. Hit up every room, every chest, every urn, every possible place for loot... there are some real GEMS out there! ;)

I'll look into the alchemy too. I haven't tried alchemy at all and think i heard of one recipe. Don't know any ingredient list either.

It's actually quite simple in Skyrim. You find ingredients and eat them to learn their first mixable outcome, (i.e. Eat some Lavender and the first outcome will appear). After you've eaten enough ingredients as to mix two identical outcomes, (i.e. two ingredients with 'Restore Health'), you can start making potions and the recipes will automatically update and save every time you figure out a new one simply by experimenting.

For example: Say you've eaten three ingredients in which their first outcome was to Restore Health. You mix ingredient 'A' and 'B' to make a Restore Health potion. Now, sometimes you'll luck into an ingredients 2nd, 3rd, or 4th outcome. Example: Mixing ingredient 'A' with 'C' and now you've found a 'Restore Magicka' potion. That new recipe will automatically update and so on and so forth. E

Eventually, you'll have a MASSIVE list of recipes. You can also purchase recipes, but, I wouldn't. To make really good money with potions, you'll want to allocate some skill points into potion effectiveness in the Alchemy skill tree, and EVENTUALLY, you'll be making potions with multiple effects, which are worth a WHOLE HELLUVA lot of gold ;)

If you're in need of a specific recipe, you can always check out the Wiki site for Elder Scrolls. Alchemy (Skyrim) - The Elder Scrolls Wiki

I'm about 20-30 hours in and haven't accomplished much beyond robbing many, many people blind :) First thing I did after the intro was hoof it to Riften (Didn't realize you could hitch a ride) and joined the Thieves Guild so I had access to a fence... Starting to do some of the missions for them, but I really do need to work off some of these alchemy reagents I've got lying around!

I did find where to smelt the ore i've got. Walking everywhere is taking a looooong time to get around.

The good thing is, once you've gotten there, you can just fast travel to the location, or a nearby already found location, saving you lots of walk-time.

There are also carriages outside of most towns that will transport you to undiscovered cities (9 in total) for a mere 50 gold.

Or, you could always steal or purchase a horse.
