I dont quite understand why they call tobacco cigs analogs. Is it analog like analogous? Or is it analog vs digital? Cause there is nothing digital about electronic cigarettes, and there is nothing electrical about tobacco cigarettes. Seems kinda silly to me. ah well. Discuss. Oh, and hello!

ecig stands for electronic cigs so everyone calls cigarettes analogs.

Analog clock - a clock or watch that represents time by position on a dial
Analog photography - photography in which the image is recorded as an analog (as on film)
etc.

Analog is old fashioned. It's the version before the new, advanced, digital or electronic version was released.

ETA:
I think it would be more accurate to call real cigarettes 'organic cigarettes', rather than "analog cigarettes".
But organic stuff is usually good, unlike analogs. Also, organic items shouldn't be treated with tons of chemicals, unlike analogs.

I understand its to differentiate the two, but I guess it slightly bothers me cause its completely incorrect. The textbook term for organic is something that originated from the earth, IE plant matter. Sure its treated with chemicals, but its more "correct" than calling them analog. Electronics dont have to necessarily mean its digital. Plus digital IS a subset of analog, just like a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square. I guess its funny to me because Im an electrical engineer. :)

You've got it at electronic.

Digital is binary or more simply on-off. So if you look at a PV as an on-off device, you could argue that it is digital. (But, we know that it is not and it just seems that way.)

I don't like the term e-cig or e-cigarette. I like personal vaporizer. Heck Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalation System sounds better to me even if the acronym is bad.

I think it has more to do with the technology advances that have defined this era. Digital = New & Improved vs. Analog = Old & Cruddy.

The definition of digital has been compromised in the computer age. Digital is a term used to represent a quantity of something or information as a discrete value (digit), as opposed to quantities represented as a continuum. With regard to analog cigarettes, you light them and they burn down, eventually to a point where they cease to burn - this is a chemical reaction (oxidation) following a continuum. Electronic cigarettes (I prefer to call them personal vaporizers as they contain no tobacco) have both digital and analog properties; the are digital from an operational sense, because they are either on (press switch or activate auto switch), or off - this is a binary digital operation. When switched on however, voltage is applied to the coil causing current flow through a wire with known resistance, and it therefore operates as an analog system where a heating process in the coil produces vaporization of a liquid in a continuum mode. Hope that helps explain, sorry but I am a nuclear physics geek :)

true but analog doesnt neceassily mean crappy either. Vinyl LP's are arguably more resolving than their digital counterpart. So is my Yamaha amplifier from the 80's. Better than many modern receivers in terms of output quality and quantity. Im just gonna call em cancer sticks or crab sticks (crab as in the cancer astrology sign, just thought of that hehe)
