It's for the same reason that we build Monster Trucks and pumpkin chuckers, have nitro tractor pulls, skip snowmobiles across lakes, make rap music and drive a block and a half away rather than walk. Other nations are more mature, have the wisdom and caution that come with age, have gone through more personal trauma and have aged gracefully into understanding the concept of "just because we can doesn't mean we should" When thinking about the US, you have to think of it as that delightfully odd ball, trust funded, bi-polar, brilliant autistic younger brother who is blowing up the garage doing something goofy like trying to figure out how to launch basketballs across town one minute and then figuring out amazing medicine for the benefit of all mankind the next. He drives you crazy one minute but you still love him. That's America.

That is one of the most apt descriptions of America I can ever remember reading. Well done!
Also yah...I think it's mostly just the drive for bigger and better, mixed with an urge to try new things, mixed with the urge to be batman and disappear into a poof of smoke. (or vapor in this case)

This is the absolute most accurate description of America I have ever read, haha.

Sent from the mothership.

Nah, we love to blow monster clouds over here! You've got a European copper mech + RDA user right here, There's nothing finer than taking a big ol' lung hit from a .3 dual coiled dripper with airflow wide open and a fully charged VTC-5. We are civilised here y'know, we've even got a branch of Taco Bell 2 minutes drive from where I live :)

I definitely wouldn't say that cloud chasing is running rampant in the US. that's all a bunch of hater hype. Outside of Vape shops and cloud competitions, I would say my .3 builds put out the biggest clouds I see on the streets. (not all that big.) Honestly, My 1.0 Kayfun builds are usually the biggest clouds I see. (even less big.) But for the sake of argument, I checked out UKVapers, and Planet of the Vapes, and both have had sub ohm cloud chasing sub forums for some time. In a quick scan of general vaping, I saw several threads about sub ohm builds in drippers. I guess it's not as American as apple pie after all.

I don't think cloud chasers are the norm over here, at least not in NC. Most people I see have regular store bought atomizers. Some Vape shops they hang out in but not all of them. If Germany ever gets into it like USA does you can bet your bottom dollar they will engineer units that will cause the National Weather service to issue fog warnings!!! Those guys can take a simple concept and re-engineer it until its the baddest most efficient thing on the planet!!!

Well, it's about as American as apple pie flavored e-liquid, anyway.

I was just vacationing in Cuba with a large group from the U.K. Many of them have Ego set-ups and were intrigued with my Lavatube. Even if the Lavatube is available in the U,K (but very very expensive), none of them had ever seen such a big device. Lots of them tried it, and liked the flavour and the vapour better (aerotank mega on top). I think it is just not well known there, not readily available, expensive and as well, not elegant enough :). Most of them are dual users and told me after they tried that they could quit if they own such an efficient device. Smoking is also more widely acceptable there, so for many, being able to cut down is sufficient enough and vaping never develop into a hobby. I am no cloud chaser (obviously) but for them, my set up was odd enough!
I'm guessing that if there were people in that large group who were members of a UK electronic cigarette forum, your experience may have been different.

After reading European news for a few years, it does seem to me that there's a European pastime of analyzing faults with American culture.
And America doesn't really bother analyzing the faults of European culture...
Because we don't really care.
