why can’t a non-smoker vape?

The way most restaurants work is, they have the smoking section outside, and the non-smoking section inside. This does not make sense; non-smokers enjoy sunshine and fresh air too!

I think that the outside seating should be divided into 2 sections, smoking and non-smoking. Then it would be fair.

That, and there should be smoke-free bars as well as smoke-friendly ones.

Oh my, I think you misunderstand.
In my state, a "legal outdoor smoking area" is usually a ply-wood shack in the back of the bar out by the dumpster. Just enough to break the winter wind or stay out of the summer sun without a sunburn.
I'm not kidding.

There are also no more smoke friendly bars.
If there isn't a shack 15' from the Establishment or a Patio large enough that we can get 15' from a door or a window, there's no smoking.

Mind you I live in a state that experiences brutal winters. During half the year, non-smokers couldn't care less about if there's a patio or a shack.

I don't understand why anybody would become a member of this forum if they aren't a smoker or had been a smoker. Electronic cigarettes are designed to be an alternative to cigarette smoking. I can't even imagine someone wanting to vape if they had never smoked. Not only is it expensive but also frustrating at time. Nicotine has been proven to have health effects. Even if you wanted to vape non-nicotine how could anybody who had never smoked want to vape.

I'm interested in knowing how someone found out about this forum if they aren't a smoker or know somewhose a smoker.

That super easy to answer. I found the forum while researching E-cigs to see if it my help my mother quit smoking. Now working on other family members.

As for a non smoking vaping ... that's easy too, just vape 0 nic juice for whatever reason you want to. They could be a social vaper. :D

As for the person that said it would lead them to tring juice with Nicotine. LMAO, Im sure very one would just migrate right to nicotine. What makes you think a Non smoker would want throat hit. The only reason smokers want it is because it better simulates smoking for them. I would imagine a Non-smoker vaping would be mostly concerned with good flavor. Sorta doubt there gonna jump on the tobacco flavors either.

With that said.. e-cig may be safer than smoking, but even vaping too much 0 nic PG juice could cause respiratory problems and 0 Nic VG could damage the liver according to reports I have read.

Okay I know I said I was leaving...but...

Some people do not even have the right to smoke in their homes now.

Wow. That's not good!

I don't want to take away peoples' right to smoke. It's their body, their right to choose. I just hate it when they take away our right to fresh air, is all.

I didn't read the whole thread, but speaking personally, I had smoked for 12-13 years, a couple times quitting cold-turkey for up to a year. Before switching to PVs, I smoked heavily.

But, even if I had been off of normal cigarettes for a year when I learned of e-cigs, technically being a non-smoker at the time, I probably would have picked up a PV.

The reason being I love nicotine. For someone with a history of Attention Deficit Disorder and with no current medical insurance who doesn't like to take pills, my PV is a godsend.

I think one of the main reasons I went back to smoking after quitting so many times is that nicotine helps me concentrate! Electronic cigarettes just provide me with a cheaper, safer alternative.

So, I think in certain situations, like someone with Alzheimer's as a poster previously mentioned, nicotine can be looked at for it's therapeutic value rather than it's addictive, "bad" value.

Yeah, we already agreed with that. If it helps an illness of any kind, by all means, vaping is better. But that's not really what the OP was saying.

There was a short story by Stephen King about just this thing. If you were caught smoking, first they took a finger or something. It was scary and eerie, and now, I can see it in the future.

The story was Quitters, Inc. In the story, this treatment was a contract the smoker willingly signed that authorized the company to do surveillance, and exact punishment if the client "cheated". The punishments started out mild, but got progressively more invasive. They took your pinky finger if you gained too much weight, I think?

Freediving does not cause brain damage.

During long breathholds the body cuts off circulation to the extremities and sends extra circulation to the brain. This ensures that the brain recieves a constant supply of oxygen.

Brain damage does not occur until 4-8 minutes after blackout. And that's only if you blackout. (Whenever a freediver blacks out, their buddy brings them to the surface to blow on their face, where the blackout ends within 5-10 seconds)

Recently there was a lot of hysteria about a study titled "apnea raises marker for brain damage". That study does not suggest that freediving causes actual brain damage, just that it raises blood levels of a certain cellular marker. (Any form of cardio excercise also raises this marker, and we all know that excercise increases brain health.)

Some studies indicate that freediving increases brainpower by improving brain circulation. It improves carotid artery function, even in former freedivers.

(P.S. In case you are wondering why I have brain damage, many years ago I tried to kill myself by overdosing on Benadryls. It had nothing to do with diving.)

    Thank you for explaining.

Thank you, YES. It was a willing contract, UNLIKE what is happening today.
Thanks. I would have stayed up half the night trying to think of the title.:)

Here in Florida it's the exact opposite. Every bar I've ever seen here is so full of smoke that you can barely see through the air.

Instead of having every state be one extreme or the other, why can't we just live in a world where smokers have nice comfortable places to enjoy their smoke and non-smokers have nice comfortable places to enjoy sweet fresh air? That would be the ultimate solution.

Why would anyone want to be a "social" vaper when we don't know the long term effects, even though we are sure it is way safer than smoking?
    Your post seems rather contradictory.

The problem is that no one opens up nonsmoking bars in areas where smoking is allowed. If there were a higher demand for them, then there would be more of them around and the businesses would be hugely successful. However the antis realize this and then push for statewide bans so that they can try to never have to see or smell cigs again.

So are you going to preach to non-smokers that they should avoid everything that they "really shouldn't do"?

Read up on the scientific facts. I can think of many everyday things that are far worse than vaping. I personally refuse to eat certain types of junk food, put air fresheners in my apartment, or breathe in a room containing photocopier-machine exhaust. But I wouldn't go around telling others how to live their lives.

In my opinion, people can do what they want as long as they don't hurt others. Many years ago, the anti-smoking movement found out that there was second hand smoke from cigs and has used that to pass law after law limiting everything from cigarette smoking to selling bubblegum cigars.

When you see people on here telling non-smokers not to vape, we really have 2 reasons.

    1. Nicotine is addictive. Its just advice, but we know just how addictive.

    2. We have to cover our butts because there are elements in our society that would use any excuse to vilify and outcast us. The FDA and others have already publicly and in writing stated that it is their belief that e-cigs are a gateway to smoking and should be banned for that reason. In other words, the FDA has said if a non-smoker wants to vape, then vaping should be made illegal.

Most non-smokers do not realize that in removing the rights of smokers, everyone's rights are diminished.

What we have due to these actions is a government that now believes that un-healthfulness is a taxable offense. As time goes on, just watch the effects this will have on alcohol, fat food, candy, motorcycles, obesity, snow skiing or other "dangerous activities" that can be successfully singled out and made into a minority.

As I said before, there are many things we don't know the long-term effects of...

    Food colorings.

    Food additives.

Psych meds. (thanks to the drug companies, many psychiatrists drug up every autistic kid they meet regardless of whether they need it or not)

Attention all non-smokers! Step away from the candy corn and the gummi worms, they may have dangerous long-term effects!!!!

It's not a contradiction. If a non smoker is going to vape do it with 0 nic so there is no addiction, whatever the reason is they want to vape. They don't have a habit or addition to deal with. They won't be reaching for the PV as an ex-smoker would so they would most likely vape much less. Sorta like having someone might enjoy a piece of chocolate from time to time. Social Smoker was kind of a joke.. like a social drinker that only drinks when their friends are over. But they can stop any time.

But anyone that does not smoke and starts vaping should understand that there could be problems if they vape like a chain smoker as the more you vape the larger the risk of side effects.

Well they are forcing horrible deaths upon others. But I suppose you find that to be ok.

I suggest you read the facts, and find out how many people die from second-hand smoke every year.

You've bought into the anti-smoking nazi rhetoric hook, line and sinker!! I suggest YOU read the facts.

Tell you what...let's put 30 people in a garage, close all the doors and start a car. Then let's put 30 people in a closed room the same size as the garage and pump in cigarette smoke. Let's check on those folks 30 minutes later. What do you think we'll find?

Trust me you're preaching to the choir. As I already stated, I have a huge analog phobia, and hate people who smoke.

Try not to hate smokers, most of them don't think they are harming others and tend to try to avoid being near nonsmokers when smoking. (this is what I used to do) A lot of smokers are being mislead too, otherwise they likely would have already joined us.

Personally I started smoking because I thought it was cool. I kept smoking because it controlled my ADD and allowed me to focus on things much easier. I'll never say I don't still think it has a cool look, and I love blowing huge plumes of vapor, vape rings, etc.

If non-smokers want to start vaping I see nothing wrong with it. I know plenty of people who enjoy hookah and won't touch analogs...Several of them found my passthrough in my car amusing (omg you made your car into a hookah).

Underwater, I'd just like to say thank you for championing a cause that isn't even truly yours. We need more people like you if we are going to pull through against the odds!

In my area pretty much all of the kids pick up smoking. My son does not have a friend who doesn't smoke. Most of his friends are now 18 and I have been showing off my PV to every one that comes to my house. I would much rather any of them had first picked up a PV than a cigarette.

Also, there are other hand to mouth addictions that I think could be solved with a PV. Just in the past few years obesity has started costing more for health care issues than smoking does or ever has. A lot of people eat when they are not hungry to satisfy that hand to mouth addiction. They use food as a pacifier in the same way that smokers use cigarettes. Wouldn't it be better for those folks to vape than to eat? I know I snack less since I started vaping and have lost weight as well. If I want something sweet I just vape something sweet, no fat, no sugar, no calories.

A lot of people who are in jobs where there is a lot of "hurry up and wait" time, like Theatre jobs, Military, Police, Fire and Rescue, etc. start smoking because it's something to do to pass time and relieve stress. I've been in Theatre groups where only one or 2 folks smoked and within a few weeks almost everyone was bumming smokes just for something to keep themselves occupied. My ex was military and a lot of his friends did the same thing. Wouldn't it be better for them to start vaping 0 nic juice instead?

Nicotine is being found to be helpful for a number of different health issues. Wouldn't it be better for those folks to find relief through vaping than smoking?

In just a few minutes I've found 4 reasons why someone who doesn't smoke might choose to use a PV. Also, as so many of the people here are adamant about the government not telling us what we can put in our bodies, isn't it kind of hypocritical to think it's ok as individuals to tell others what they can put in theirs? I agree that people should not pick up a nicotine addiction that they don't already have, but with 0 nic liquid there is no need to do that. And I doubt non smokers will worry about throat hit since they have no idea what that sensation is anyway.

Last, and certainly not least, we are seeing non smokers coming to this forum to get info for friends and family that smoke. And people who are just interest in what this new phenomenon is. We need to get them on our side to fight for our right to vape, not berate them. If this comes down to voting eventually, the more people on our side the better. If they have questions, we should answer them kindly, if they have opinions that differ from ours we should treat them with respect, just like we would want our opinions treated.

    EASY.

Those are the people that are going to stir up the ...., THAT'S why!

There's an impending BAN on e-cigs. Wanna know why? ONE of the 'intelligent' arguments are that it'll attract KIDS. In other words, people that NEVER smoked! If non-smokers start picking up e-cigs, WE'RE DONE.

This is a LIFESAVING device for those us that SMOKED and either CAN'T or DIDN'T WANT to QUIT..

If everyone and their brother starts picking them up because they think they're COOL or they TASTE good, they're going to ruin it for the people that NEED it.

Sorry for the rant, but I agree 100% with Born's signature...
'If you don't smoke, don't vape. And, if you do, don't look here for support.'

The highlighting is mine and Domino said exactly what I was thinking. This really cannot be stressed enough.

I don't get it. What's wrong with having a non-smoking section outside as well as a smoking one? I'm not suggesting that they remove the outdoor smoking section entirely...

Uhm, because then the anti-smoking fanatics will be griping because the wind is blowing the wrong way and they are downwind. Then what are they going to do, move smokers to the back of the building by the trash cans? They are the ones that drove the smokers out of the businesses, so they can darn well stay in the territory they claimed. If they want fresh air and sunshine there is a park in practically every city and town, they can pack a picnic lunch.
