It took me a good week to wean myself from analogs, but I wasn't a heavy smoker. What helped me was to find a flavor I enjoyed MORE than the cigarette. I found that once I found a good flavor, the cigarettes lost their apealing taste. the smell of the smoke, however, was still very enticing. I found myself smoking my c-cig WAY more than I smoked cigarettes, but one day, I fought the urge to light up, and just smoked the crap out of my c-cig to go away. It was the throat hit from the vapor that allowed me to "feel" like I was smoking. It isn't as easy for some to just quit right away, so at least try to wean yourself slowly.
 
Well maybe you'll never be cig free. I haven't seen that to be the case with many long term vapers though. If you've cut back you've started your journey. Everyone is different, and I suggest to just not give up vaping since you enjoy it, maybe vape more when the urge comes, and don't force it. Letting it come naturally has been a very successful way for a lot of vapers. Try to cut back one cig a week or every few days if you feel like you have to.

Again, I think the most important advice is just don't stop vaping, because at that point you have no chance. Good luck, and give yourself a break!

I was pretty diehard at giving up my last cigarettes. It took me 3 months. Finally I read a post where the person suggested thinking of it as 'switching brands' instead of quitting. It worked for me. And then when I had a bad craving I would tell myself if I still wanted a cigarette this bad tomorrow I would buy a pack tomorrow. That seemed to ease the pain. It was a real mind game for me.

I started out with a 510 kit and still had the occasional cigarette. I was using 24mg Apple liquid (PG) and started noticing that I wasn't getting any TH from my Came light. It took me a couple weeks to switch over to the e-cig way of things, but I got there. All my cravings for one went away as soon as I got my BB in the mail. I guess I needed somthing that didn't resemble a cigarette.

When I finally had my last cig and I was too lazy and tired to go to the store and buy a pack, I vaped liked crazy on a high nic juice and when i mean like crazy I took my ecig to bed with me and i never smoked in bed but i vaped non stop for like a week straight i was a walking fog machine. I had been told that as long as i was getting the nic, the other cravings i was having was from the other 4000+ chemicals in the cig.
But just wanting to quit and taking that final leap was what really did it for me.

You don't give a lot of info, but here's what happened with me (I should keep this text on my desktop for copypasta):

I knew myself well enough that I didn't "try to quit". For me, that is a recipe for insta-fail. I just kept my cigarettes farther away than my PV, and tried to vape more and smoke less. The first couple of weeks, I went from 3 packs per day to 1.5 - 2 packs, not quite every other cig replaced by vaping. Over the next couple of months, I obsessed over e-cigs, spent ......ed amounts of time here on the forum, and learned a LOT of tricks and nuances. I learned about direct-inhaling, dripping, 36 mg. juice, TV Butter Rum, and high-voltage big-battery mods. I bought lots of crap I didn't need, and that didn't work for me. I spent a lot of time being ...... off at e-cigs. I smoked any time I really, really wanted one. I got down to about 6 cigarettes per day. Then about 4. Then 2 or 3. Then one day, I realized I hadn't had a smoke in a couple of weeks, and I didn't want one. I had tricked my stupid brain into quitting when it wasn't paying attention. My last smoke was a day or two after Christmas of '09. Easy.

A couple of months ago, I tried to take a drag off of my wife's Marlboro Light 100, just to see. It tasted like burning garbage, and it was so foul I couldn't even fill my mouth with that crap. I blew it out without inhaling. I realized that I wasn't an ex-smoker, jonesing for a smoke all the time and one temper-tantrum away from smoking again. It's like I'm a "non-" smoker. I don't jones, I don't even notice when people are smoking around me, unless I smell that crap. My wife smokes, I don't even care.

Easy. Don't even try to quit smoking, just try to start vaping.

From my 7 months or so of vaping now I can tell you this, if you can't quit the analogs then in my opinion you haven't found "Your Juice" and/or "Your Device". Me personally I had to have something that had that hit in the back of my throat like a cigarette..I wanted that heavy feeling in my lungs as the vapor filled them..I've only found a handful of liquids that can deliver that and a great flavor as well. And I've also recently purchased a Little Chuck from ThagBuilt.com and that made quite the improvement in my experience as well..I have no more interest in the those cigs..Nastiness..

There's no formula here for what will work for you. It's trial and error. Try higher mg maybe, new flavours, search for whatever really pleased you from analogs, and try to replace that in your vaping. For me the biggest thing was/is to make myself vape before I pick up a cig. Sometimes it's a 15 minute straight vape session that almost burns my fingers from the atty heat. Other times its simply a different flavour or higher mg.

I also visualise the vapour. There isn't an analog on the planet that will make me exhale as much smoke as I can blow out in vapour. And with the right mix of everything else as well, I find that cigs just don't compare any more.

Good luck, just find the mix that works for you, whatever that is.

How many years have you been smoking? Just give yourself more time, because everyone has their own pace. This is a journey, not a race, and we'll all get there when we get there.

I think I haven't had a cigarette in almost a month (I don't really keep track), but if I want one I'll just light up without hesitation or remorse...because at this point I know vaping has a firmer grip on me that smoking ever did. For that reason I will never say that I quit smoking.

Hi Realtor. I don't know what ecig you're using but I'm guessing that it may be playing a part in your frustration. A stock ecig battery only puts out about 3.2 volts with a fresh charge. You'd be amazed at the difference a little more voltage makes. Using a small battery mod like a box mod while you're driving may be a bit more satisfying. Most box mods use a 14500 battery that comes off the charger at 4.2 volts, lasts for several hours and only cost about $4.00. I bet you drive a lot if you are a realtor and if you use a mod in your car your other batteries will last longer.
I realize I'm making a few assumptions here but those are my thoughts.

Examine yourself as you smoke a cigarette. Try to emulate that experience as you vape. For me, smoking is a relaxation routine. I drag, inhale, and as I exhale there's a sense of peace and physical relaxation of my upper body as the smoke leaves my lungs in a trail of smoke. It's like a ritual where I blow out my tension.

Analyze yourself and vape that way. It helps to create the same feeling of inhaling and watching the vapor as it leaves your body. Make vaping a relaxing experience and you will begin to enjoy it more.

You might want to order some higher mg nic juice to use when the cravings are worse. When you crave tobacco, drop a few drops of high nic in your cart and hit it heavily, then re-evaluate your craving. I find that doing that keeps me from lighting an analog.

I was the same way. Took me so long to fully switch over that the posts about quitting the moment their PV arrived ticked me off a bit.

There are other chemicals in your cig that can be as, and in some folks more, addicting than cigs. In some folks adding Swedish Snus is a big help to cut down smoking.

Some folks use a PV and continue to smoke too.

I had to find a flavor that satisfied fully and completely. It was nothing like I expected. Once I found that flavor, I just didn't want to smoke as that flavor did more for me than my cigs.

There are as many ways to switch to vaping as there are Hoosiers. As long as you keep picking up that PV and trying new things, you're fine.

You know there is something in the PV that you want. Something is there. Otherwise you'd never have cut down on the cigs. If you can find the part that completes that something you will forget to smoke one day.

For me, I had to bump my vaping nicotine level up one notch. Now I use 24 mg for wake-up with coffee, or other times when I really want the full effect, while using 16-18 mg for at-the-desk.
It made a world of difference to me.
(I was 1 PAD Marlboro red, thought the 16-18 mg would be right -- I definitely had a feeling that something was missing until I got some 24 mg in.)

for me it was just a strong desire to get off of cigarettes. whatever they started putting in them to make them "fire safe cigarettes" was burning my lungs. I heard phillip morris was using carpet glue in their marlboros to make them fire safe but i dont know for sure. anyway after 15 years of smoking with the hacking and wheezing and constant increase in taxes i wanted to give it up so bad i was able to do so with the smoking everywhere ecig in the mall after just a week, but then a week later i had an ego and some vaporbomb juice i really like and havent had a single craving for a cig since

To me the key to giving up cigarettes is to make the vaping experience as close as possible to physically smoking an analog… i.e. throat hit.

First, get a device that has the power of 5v. I started with a 510 and then a 5v passthrough. The 510 was ok but the 5v passthrough was more like a cigarette. A huge difference.

Next, zero in on one juice that you really like and stick with it. After you have made the e-cig transition you will have plenty of time to play around with different flavors.

Last, round up all of your analogs and throw them in the dump. With no cigarettes around vaping is easy.

I know it’s easier said than done but it worked for me.

I think the key is not trying to quit. I initially started vaping because I do a lot of sales calls and I didn't want clients smelling smoke on my clothes. Initially, I vaped from the time I got up in the morning until my last sales call of the day was finished. Only then would I smoke analogs again.

My partial back (and a unopened backup) are sitting on my desk right next to my PV. I honestly think if didn't have the pack sitting there, I would crave an analog even more. Over the past nine months, I've dropped steadily from 2-3 PADs to less than one. I only realized last night that I haven't had an analog for 3 days now.
