Why Can't I Just Replace the Silica?

I'm using a Vivi Mini Nova on an Apollo eGo battery. The problem is I keep burning through wicks like they're going out of style and, to make matters worse, about 3 out of every 5 wick replacement assemblies simply don't work. I can get air through but nothing else.

So, I'm wondering if instead of replacing the whole wick assembly, I can replace just the wick (the silica?). It certainly would be cheaper and reduce the failure rate. Or would replacing just the wick not work? I don't see many places selling rolls of silica. Am I missing something here?

Or should I just get a variable voltage battery and if so, would I need to switch to a different tank? My main concern is burning up my wicks so quickly and then my replacements failing.

Yea u can replace the silica wick only also the coil wire, yes get a vv or vv/VW. Much better control. Most mods are both 510 and ego threading. Your nova is 510.

I do wonder why your going through so many heads though, I'll suggest that u make sure your tilting and swirling your PV to make sure the wicks are kept wet.

GL and Happy Vapeing.

And if at first you don't succeed with a PV make sure your pressing the fire button, j/k.

You can rebuild the "wick assembly" - the coil - on Vivi Mini Novas (I'm hoping you haven't been throwing away the used/bad assembies!). Lots of places sell Silica (the wick) and Kanthal (the wire). Look on youtube for videos on how to rebuild one. From what I hear, it's not too difficult, but takes some skill working with small parts and practice.

As both of the other responders stated, you are likely burning through (literally) your coils because the Vivi Nova is a top-coil tank and you have to keep turning your mod over/around so that the juice can be absorbed into the wick at the top of the tank. No juice to the wick = dry wick = burned wick = BAD taste.

Another option is to get a bottom-coil tank, like a Pro-Tank ...or the new Pro-Tank 2 due out at the end of the month. Their coils can also be rebuilt, if that's something that interests you.

Or evod ? bottom feeder, easier to keep the wick wet and it is also re-builtable. Search "ekowool" "3mm silica wick" "Kanthal 100 32 " wire on flea bay and most vap shops online have them. They are very cheap.

Watch a few video on how to rebuilt "name of your tank here" on Utube and you will be rewarded with audio-visual goodness.

If the Vivi Novas were bought from Apollo they are the SmokTech knockoffs and some have reported wicking issues. The genuine Vivi Novas are made by Vision.
With your present Vivi Nova it could be the battery end of the Vivi is not making good contact with the battery. Try GENTLY pulling out the center post on the battery end of the clearo about 1/32" to ensure a good electrical connection between battery and clearo.

Top coil clearos have notorious wicking issues. Unless you twirl and/or tilt the juice to the coil/wick, the wicks will be fairly dry once the juice drops below the head and if you power your coils with "dry" wicks, you're going to get burnt wicks. You can get them on bottom coils too, it just takes longer, and it's generally due to the vape heat on the coil, combined with "thin" juice, and "dry" wicks. I rebuild, but have to change my coils about every third day, and the wicks are charcoal. Not everyone vapes like me, so YMMV. Best to you!

Thanks for all the advice. Just some more information: only my batteries were bought from Apollo so the VMN is the real deal (bought it from a Vision retailer), I twirl my nova right before each vape whether into Nova is full or not, and yes, I save all my replacement wick assemblies because I kind of knew all along I would someday want to start building my own.

The comment about the bottom coil is something I didn't consider and I will definitely check it out (as well as the YouTube videos on rebuilding the assembly).

I think it's likely that the quick burning of my wicks can be remedied with a VV battery. Any recommendations?

Also, does anyone know of a good clearomizer with a glass tank and that's similar to the VMN?
