Why can't everyone just leave us the hell alone? I quit smoking because I felt like a criminal doing it. I would go out and hide in the bushes if I was in public scared to death that I may "offend" someone. I felt like a criminal, they kept yelling "you're killing us with your second hand smoke" So I quit, I went to an e-cig, minding my own business, not "killing" anyone anymore. Now it's..."shame on me again" I'm nothing more than an addict, never mind that they can't push away from the table or live without their coffee or their diet drinks or their cell phones that are zapping the hell out of everyone, no, those are clean pure things and not bad for you. Really? Seriously? C'mon people, you are as addicted as I am, to your caffeine and your pie and your overeating or your cokes and all the other stuff that is bad for you. You are just holier than thou and think your addictions are ok. Right, keep on telling yourself that.

LEAVE ME ALONE

You enjoy your vices and let me enjoy mine dammit. I'm fed up with the lot of you looking down your nose at me while stuffing your faces with all the chemicals they put in that "healthy" food you eat and drinking your two pots of coffee a day. I don't walk on water but guess what...neither do you. LEAVE ME ALONE!

Rant over, stepping off my soapbox now.

I used to care what people thought, but that ship has long since sailed....I've adopted a different outlook some time back...I didn't particularly care what people thought when I smoked so I really dont care much what they think about me vaping...I'm not the friendliest or most approachable guy in the world and people dont necessarily get the defensive response they think they will get when they express their unsolicited, low information opinions on vaping to me....I possess all the diplomacy skills of a sledgehammer...

Thanks SexySod! So many people just don't get it. I took a psychology class a long time ago. It was the psychology of drugs & addiction. I learned that cigarettes are just as addictive if not more addictive than heroine. I was like...really!!! That's insane! It's a tough habit to quit! And to be honest I really didnt want to at first. I enjoyed smoking. I just stopped trying to explain it to people who don't have open minds. It's not worth it! Then let's not even get on all of the times I've had a guy say to me 'Youre too pretty to smoke'...is that the best you've got to throw at me! Get outta here! Now I just laugh!

There is a huge area of research about the way mental health and nicotine addiction interact. The majority of schizophrenics self-medicate with nicotine, or perhaps other things in tobacco. That basically proves that they have a massive effect on mental health (and doesn't mean you need to be schizophrenic to self-medicate with them).

The puritans who think that everyone should quit instantly are missing the point: for some people it's easy to quit, for others the effects of quitting are much worse (even if they are temporary) than the future prospect of poor health. Neurochemistry and neuropsychology are complicated and poorly understood, but we're learning.

If you're a professional basketball player, you might say: "I used to not care about being a professional basketball player, and then I realised that I wanted to become one. I practised for a long time, and now I am one. This proves that if you want to be a professional basketball player, you can."

Obviously it doesn't, there are other factors at play, such as innate ability or stature. You can't extrapolate from individual experience to everyone else. The experience of addiction to a drug is not in principle any different.

I'm bipolar, if it wasn't for my meds, I wouldn't have quit so easily. Vaping is my new vice just like everyone else here.

I understand what you mean though. Im just getting a lot of laughs (like making fun of it) and sideways confused glances by the coworkers who don't smoke. Funny though that the analog smokers know exactly what they are.

Until it is proven to me that my vaping some 3ml to 5ml of 12mg e juice is harmful to those whom may be around me . . . SCEW them!!!

The idiots, whom drink and drive are much more of a danger to the general public than my vaping. I don't see Uncle Sam abolishing alcohol . . . .Oh, wait, they tried that and it failed.

I generally just glare at them until they get uncomfortable and slink away.

Looking around dramatically and then exclaiming "oh, you've mistaken me for someone who cares!" is also effective.

Unfortunately the world has always been full of haters 'just because', and 'holier-than-thou' types. I suspect it's been that way since mankind first rose up from the primordial ooze. I smoked for 31 years (Marlboro reds), so it took a herculean effort to quit. With that in mind, if anyone ever said anything snotty or condescending to me about my vaping, they would get their feelings hurt quick, fast, and in a hurry, even though I'm not the least bit rude or stand-offish by nature. The OP is right, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Vape on, sister!:toast: :vapor:

I'm a lot like you, except that I'm also 6'5" and 260 pounds.
Nobody ever says a damn thing to me, and it is a wise move on their part.

Commentary: I second the long, intent, slightly put upon stare method. Don't say anything, just stare right in their eyes.

Observation: Meatbags seem to love to involve themselves in the business of other meatbags for some of the most inane reasons. Often, those same meatbags have plenty of their own skeletons or bad behaviors, just a different sort.

Theory: Meatbags who judge other meatbags on anything other than behaviors which seriously hurt other people (murder/assault, hard drugs, child/animal abuse, things like that) are probably just looking for something to put another meatbag down for so they can feel better about their own pathetic, vapid, useless existences.

No matter what they say to me, it all sounds the same. "BAAAAA". And the Lion does not concern himself with the opinions of a sheep!

Commentary: I don't overly concern myself with the useless opinions of any but the most expert meatbags, and those are rare. My auditory sensors perceive every useless utterance they make, however. Woe is me.

Musing: At least as a lion, you can eat the sheep and get some satisfaction out of it. As for me I have to blast them between the eyes with a high-powered carbine assault weapon, but have no other use for their fleshy carcasses.

A few months ago, a friend of mine posted one of those scare tactic pictures on fb of a diseased, damaged smokers lung with her words of "to my friends that smoke, look at this - please quit now!!!" I know it was with the best of intentions....but....

I wanted to laugh. Really, you think that was a news flash to anyone that smokes? You think I saw that and said "omg, I didn't know - let me put these down NOW!!" No one knows more about the risks than a smoker - if you want to use it to keep someone from smoking, great, but don't preach to a smoker....we know. This is a woman who is 50 lbs overweight and uses a tanning bed....really?? Look at the top 10 causes of cancer and smoking is #1, but guess what? Obesity and sun exposure are right there too! So you can be a chubby raisin, but you think I need to be educated in the dangers of smoking??? Everyone has their lifestyle choices, good or bad, but I'm pretty sure tanning isn't chemically addictive.

Smoking is the one vice that is okay to be judgmental and holier than thou about, while justifying your own bad habits. This soccer Mom (who ran the PTA!!) will not take kindly to the first person that ever tries to be judgmental about vaping. I'm armed with enough research and information to shut them up quickly.
