To keep my son from smoking, for my own general health, and to not smell like an ashtray all the time.

This, plus influencing my kids... a bonus is that my hubby (who's been vaping for a few years) and I have a new hobby together. LOL :)

You will feel (and smell!) SO much better... stick with it!

For the majority of my twenties I was able to fool myself into thinking that smoking wasn't doing me any harm - that I was "getting away with it". Shortly before I started vaping, I went back home to visit my parents for a few days. My Dad made a comment about how bad my cough in the morning was getting and the rest is history!

Needless to say - since I stopped smoking, the reality of what it was doing to my body has become pretty obvious!

A little over 5 weeks, strictly vaping....The smell, obvious, health reasons, again, obvious. I don't have to avoid people at work because I just came back inside from having a stinky cancer stick and see the look on their face when they get a whiff, along with the other parents from my kid's extra-curricular activities. Oh, and then, there is the cost since this does actually save you money when you finally settle down with the hardware you're comfortable with.

Girlfriend left me, plummeted into a pit of self-pity, smoking 2 packs a day, rather than my normal 1 for a month, could barely breathe, then thought to myself: "F... this, I'm not gonna mess myself up like this, just because of a girl", bought a starter-kit.
6 months later, don't miss the cigs, don't miss the ex, gained a new hobby, feeling better than ever :)

On St Patrick's day last year my mom went into the hospital with sever pneumonia. She also has COPD and was unable to breathe on her own so she had to be intubated. It was horrible to see, and she was in ICU for almost a week. During that time I decided to quit smoking. She quit as well and hasn't had one since she was in the hospital!
Over the past year I struggled with not smoking, I did really well for a while but would cheat from time to time. Finally this year I decided to try e-cigarettes, and I am so thankful I did. I only wish I had tried them in March 2012 when I first quit!

My very significant non-smoking Other suggested to me that if I were able to quit smoking, we would have a better chance of having 20 to 30 years more together to add to the ones we've already had. I kinda like him a little (ok, lots!) so I started taking the whole quitting thing seriously.

I do have to say although, he has never ever nagged at me to quit, he is absolutely thrilled and very supportive about the vaping!

Sick & Tired of being Sick & Tired:)

That made me chuckle.

I had a 15-20 minute coughing fit on a Saturday over 4 weeks ago.
Picked up an NJoy on Sunday and ordered my starter kit that day.

Haven't touched a cigar since. My reward? Other than the health benefits, my wife enjoys kissing me now which means I get to do more of it. :D

Win/Win!

Ditto to all above and especially one's health but your story about your boy is mine as well. For me it was about my daughter asking me to quit and feeling like a failure and bad influence for not doing do. Before I quit I had known for a long time that it was time and I was out of excuses yet I continued until 5 months ago when my throat felt raw and the pain was intense. Found this forum right away as I was googling for info on e cigs and I am now 5 months smoke free. Yay ! I'm seeing and feeling the health and emotional benifts every day. I feel a sense of empowerment at having conquered this addiction and it's been a real boost to my self esteem. Everthing about vaping is so enjoyable to me that I would never consider going back to cigs. E cigs or vaping are the future and we are at the forefront.... well some of us are newbies here but we are hanging with the vets/pioneers right here on this forum. It's a great thing ! Wishing you all the best !

I just dont want to die like my father. As I sit here smoking a cig now instead of vaping my nasty juice.
I started smoking because it was cool. It felt bad. It felt like the adults were shocked.
We'd sit outside the mall doors blowing smoke, 13, 14yo, reveling in the mothers "shocked" faces.
I might not have ever asked for my older corrupt friends to give me that 1st cig though..
Had my father not smoked. My father died when I was very young. I barely knew him.
But at age 14 I started smoking.. and from the beginning, i felt a connection to my father.

I smoked for 10 years and tried to quit several times.....but I always went back to cigarettes. I honestly hated myself for smoking. It always made me feel nasty and I hated the smell on my clothes and hair and fingers. I finally went to the new vaping store in town and got an ego t kit. I haven't smoked since! It's wonderful not feeling guilty for smoking but still getting my nicotine fix. Plus the juice is really delicious!

Cigarettes are almost 9 bucks a pack here in Washington State, so it was getting expensive to smoke a pack a day. My Mom had half a lung removed due to lung cancer, and she didn't smoke a day in her life, and my grandmother on my mom's side died of cancer.....I thought it was time to lessen my chances of lung cancer. I teach martial arts to many kids, and kids arent stupid....they can smell cigarette smoke on me when I come back in from outside after a cigarette. I want to be a better example to those kids....I don't want those youngsters to start smoking "because they want to be like Sifu". Granted, putting nicotine in my body probably isn't the best example.....but at least I don't smell like a stinky ashtray with cigarette breath. :)

The hobby aspect of vaping is much more fun than shoving a cigarette in my mouth, as well!
