I tend to think that people just tend to mock things they are really not interested in. For example, I have mentioned the ecig to a couple of people at work who I know have tried to quit smoking in the past. They pretty much scoffed at me and obviously did not want to know more about it.

My brother, on the other hand, came by one day and said he wanted to quit smoking for New Year but didn't know how he was going to stick with it as he has tried it several years in a row with no luck. I had not told him about it for fear he'd think it was just another one of my "hairbrained ideas" (lol) but right at that moment, I showed him mine. He's been a convert ever since.

When I told my daughter (a non smoker), she was so happy for my effort, she offered to buy me "parts"...lol

Ironically, my 2 sons, who both smoke but not as much as me, brushed me off.

Lack of interest can really make people rude and critical (I think anyway).

I get made fun of by smokers.
I get made fun of by non-smokers.

Why do they do that?

I havent dared get laughed at, I must have that presence about me. If I did, I would laugh right back and say "HAHAHA, Your dying of cancer, you stupid idiot!"
I guess people can sense not to laugh at me... LOL They know if they do they got something coming :D

I suffered a variant of this. Ranting nutter called me out in a bar about polluting her environment. Went through my usual spiel, took it apart to show her there was no flame or tobacco and then reassembled it and carried on vaping. The lack of a lighter or matches shut her up for a moment or two, then she started haw-hawing about me sucking on a pen.

Told her to go forth and multiply at that point...

I keep hearing the same thing, too. Look, there's Kate with her fake cigarette. Ha ha ha.

I tell them, it's not fake and it's not a cigarette.

Obviously they are not as educated as you are. You know when I use to smoke I always use to think I must be an idiot. About a week before I quit my boss asked me why I smoke when I take such good care of myself in every other way and I told her I must be an idiot, she replied, "You're not an idiot you're just an addict." For some reason that statement meant so much to me.
Anyway, back to my point, I don't know how these people can make fun of you, how can they have such a low IQ? What kind of people does your company hire that they cant put something so simple together as glycerin, flavor with a bit of nicotine together? Its just steam. They are so uneducated, I almost pity their pure stupidity. If you are too afraid to tell them piss off, to give them quick witted replies and stand up for yourself then just smoke somewhere else. I am not sure I could even be next to such stupid people as it might hurt my brain and affect the quick flow of the 5 different thoughts that I am having at that very second.
You are saving your life, Kate! You are probably one of the more intelligent people at your workplace and they should be so privledged to have you. I really do mean that.

PS I ran up 4 flights of steps without running out of breath today and normally when I do that I am practically hyperventilating. I would challenge them to run up the steps if it was me and see who runs out of breath first.

Smoking is increasingly seen as silly and stupid. Why would any intelligent person burn plant material and suck in smoke pollution containing numerous proven carcinogens? Not smart. But e-smoking is seen in a similar light, except e-smokers are pretending to "smoke" by sucking in vapor and exhaling a little cloud. Is that cool?

To many people, it's looks silly and stupid. The problem is we're addicts and we need nicotine. So we make use of a fake cigarette from China to provide us recreational nicotine.

If you ever wonder how the masses feel about e-smoking, read the public comments on any news site below any story on e-smoking. Those comments are overwhelmly negative. Education will not win these people over. That will happen only if and when these are produced by a respected source like Big Pharmaceutical. Then we will pay through the nose -- but people won't tease those who are quitting smoking in an approved fashion.

I use my e-cig in public most every day. The only attitude to take is indifference. I know what I'm doing. They don't.

Well up here in the "Great White North", especially during the winter months, those who chose to laugh instead of inquiring "intelligently" usually get the TAP TAP TAP on the window as I completely enjoy my beverage, sitting down in my warmly heated space and enjoying my vape between pointing at them with a chuckle of my own at the bundled up, shivering and speed puffing on their analogs to get their fix lot.

I'll usually add in the "Hey, who's laughing now huh?" as they stomp their boots off of snow, take of their hats and gloves, hang up their coats and proceed to sit down blowing on thier cold freezing fingers, lol.

Now add to that the stares and comments of disgust from patrons as they walk by smelling of that "stinky wet ashray reek" tobacco smokers omit from "speed/power smoking" and it just confirms to me who the "winner" of the joke is. (I can hardly believe I used to stink like that and not personally had notice it myself).

Some have swallowed their pride and have come over to ask about what I'm using, but most won't endure the taste of crow and simply muddle in thier little group with unhappy faces pouting woes of defeat.

Cuz you no longer qualify as a smoker or nonsmoker (in their eyes);)

I'm just telling smokers about health benefits and how good it tastes and that they are missing out.

As for non smokers, many will never change cuz to them its still smoking.

Went to my (no smoking) brothers house this last weekend and vaped inside :D
I told him it was a "quit smoking device";)he didn't smell it and thought it was great I had quite smoking:D

You must be a badass Nadia!

My Dad laughed, but it was in disbelief that you could get your fix and not die from it.

I will come visit Katoo on her break and give those wastes of oxygen a piece of my mind.
Btw, non-smokers that know me consider me a non-smoker. I have also convinced my health nut buddies that vaping allows me to further my meditation and breathing exercises...lol ;)
Also, in all fairness nicotine is still a poison and I have been weening myself down slowly to eventually no nic and making my own veg glycerin juice. Tasteee

I live in a fairly progressive area, and I usually get:

1) Smokers who can't wrap their heads around the concept - but are not antagonistic.

2) Smokers who "get it" and want a reference for a supplier

3) Non-Smokers who think it's pretty cool as an alternate nicotine delivery mechanism

I don't usually get "heroes" trying to make me "put it out" or other "anti" types.

But I'm 6'1", 250lbs and look like a Wookiee. I don't get told to do much :)
