Condoms are for people who are having sex. Sex isn't restricted to an adults...so why would condoms be?

In case I misread mariahpoo's initial post that I responded to, I am talking about purchasing only not marketing. I am not advocating condoms for 5 year olds just that a 15 year old who is having sex anyway should be able to buy them and do it responsibly. So in that sense for me it isn't an "adult item".

:O No no no no. Consenting adults. Any things for sex you have to be 18 or older at least here in cali... I mean I am sure a teenager can get condoms. But they are young adults. I do have a HUGE problem if kids want to use condoms and have sex. That is not age appropriate at all.

No it dose not lead to it being okay for adults. I always specified that because this is a chemical compound stimulant that it should be used by only age appropriate individuals. Just as any other adult substance is.

And there you go again calling names. Can't we have a civilized conversation. Are you under medical supervision? What makes it less "stupid" (just using your verbiage, I would not assume your level of intelligence, I am not like that) for you to use it.

Again huh show me the first time I called them names, get your facts straight, being as I have a number of times in this forum supported people who where non smokers. If you understood what I said you wouldn't even have to ask why I feel it is ok for smokers to vape.

Ah yes... then you make the same point as I. young adults should use condoms. Not kids... lol

Excuse me, but how would have any idea about what I do or do not know about? Check the CASAA forums from a few days ago and you can see my comments about trying to post my letter to the FDA and the link on the site being down!
You don't know me, and don't treat me like some dumb kid! I knew about the FDA and their potential bans because of the flavor argument long before ecigs became popular(back in the days when there was no EGO or any or the new stuff).

I never said there wasn't need for caution, it is printed on the labels of starter kits these days. I never claimed anything about safety!

The fact is I knew cigarettes caused cancer long before I started smoking(as did many on here), and I still smoked them it was my freedom. People know e-cigs may be dangerous although not proven, and it is still their choice to use them or not. It isn't some magical smokers only club!

Edit: And if you think that just because you have over 2,000 posts it gives you some kind of pass to talk down to other people, you better read the rules again!

U mad bro?

Im not treating you like a dumb kid. I think your ideas are dumb and thats what were discussing here. You probably feel the same way about mine. Its nothing personal on my end.

If I wanted to a could give you a LONG list of qualifications that go back before the first ever Vapefest, Egos, 510's, Yeti's, 901's Kr808's etc but Im not getting into a pissing match over whos been around the longest as thats pointless and only detracts from the issue at hand.

Your entire argument seems to be based on personal freedom and I dont agree with unlimited personal freedom for a lot of reasons.

Personal freedom without rules, regulations, social mores, and checks is nothing more than anarchy. Its the equivalent of someone touting freedom of speech to defend a person yelling fire in a crowded movie theater.

If people arent going to listen to those who have the most to lose, have more experience and have been the ones doing all the fighting then theres no hope for them or us.

It isnt ex-smokers against those-who-have-never-smoked, its people with life experience, compassion, and concern advising against something we think is incredibly foolish.

No ones drawn a line in the sand and forbidden it. I doubt many people here would even if they could but also dont think we need to be insulted or labelled for advocating moderation and caution, especially considering the other sides propensity for using our mistakes against us.

As much your side in this debate is saying that 'we need everyone in this fight" you might want to stop to consider the valuable resources and experience youre ignoring in this forums veterans as well.

Sorry, I think that I laser focused on adult item and the grouping with booze, so I assumed you were inferring that you should have to be 18 years old to buy one.

Statutory law in ct goes like this

under 16 to under 16 is legal

16 to under 16 with less than years age difference is legal

18 plus down to 16 is legal

The key here is under 18 is legal basically as long as it is with another minor...I am of the mind that they are not going to base their sex decision on whether condoms are available so I'd rather them be able to get them if they are going to do it anyway.

At least we got it mostly sorted.

"So yeah I think any non smoker who starts vaping at this point unless under medical supervision is being stupid!" - From post #79 today. The use of the word stupid is in fact calling names.

As for you opinion, have at it. If you feel that vaping is a privilege for ex-smokers only fine. But I do not want to be associated with anyone who thinks they should have more privileges then others. Just because WE made the bade decision to smoke cigarettes in the first place does not give use soul rights to enjoy nicotine. It does not work that way. Everyone is born with nicotine receptors in the brain. They are there for a reason.

I was referring to not just you but everyone who has jumped on non-smokers vaping. There has been a lot of name calling. So I am sorry if you thought I was singling you out or adding to a list of offenses. For that was not my intent. And I do humbly apologizes for any misconception or hurt feeling this may have caused.

Next time I will be sure to specify "to all"... however I thought it was found upon to multi post... so that I will not do.

Edit... I went back and edited my post to reflect what I meant; clear and concise.

There are people of all different levels of respectability who have jogged and eaten right, from serial killers to canonized saints. Gaining respect requires showing respect for others. We're all in this together.

Worst case example: Someone watches "It's a Wonderful Life" and sees George Bailey (James Stewart's character) smoking while resisting his mother's prompting to court a girl. They decide that smoking is cool, and they go to the store and buy a pack of cigarettes. Does this make watching "It's a Wonderful Life" a bad idea?

When you're worst case example is a dead ringer for a statistical outlier, then you may well have a pretty good idea on your hands.

I prefer to judge people's contributions on quality and not quantity.

Lest I give the wrong impression, let me just say that I'm very happy to hear that you've found that quitting smoking and making healthy decisions about diet and exercise has improved your life. You and I disagree about this issue, and that's fine. I haven't stated my views with a great deal of respect or deference, because I haven't sensed respect or deference from you for mine. I don't take that personally or hold that against you. And I certainly don't mean to disrespect you as a person when I sometimes don't have respect for the opinion being expressed. (For example, I quote Bertrand Russell in my signature. I have immense respect for him as a person and as an intellect, but I don't have a lot of respect for his activity on the "Who Killed Kennedy Committee," which was pretty much a bone-headed move all the way around.)

I'm guessing that we'll have other interactions, and I may get more accustomed to the rhythm and tempo of your comments and posts. I welcome the expression of your viewpoint, and my tendency to respond in like tone to comments should not be taken as a personal hostility.

I do appreciate the explanation, none was expected or needed and theres nothing personal on my end either. Vaping is something that Im very passionate about and sometimes that can be misconstrued along with my rather ascerbic personality. At least part of the point of forums like this is so people can see opposing viewpoints and arrive at their own conclusions no? That doesnt make either one of us right or wrong as ultimately most things in vaping are a personal decision.

Personally, I'll counsel against anyone taking up vaping who hasnt already smoked before because at this point we dont know what the long term health risks are. We hear a great deal about the benefits on a daily basis but I doubt theres anyone around whos been vaping over 6 years.

Besides the fact that I dont want to see what I and many others perceive as a near miracle to become tarnished by someone using it as a springboard to start smoking cigarettes and making a mockery of this forum, our community and everything else weve fought for, I just dont think its a smart move. Im not a fan of people placing themselves into situations they dont have to based mostly on appearance or a desire to fit in or be cool. Maybe Im turning into an old guy but I passed that point a long time ago.

As far as the tone of my posts go, thats who I am.I suppose I could appear as a giggly airheaded idiot but that wouldnt be me or in keeping with my personality or outlook on life.

I look forward to continuing this discussion with you because I feel that most of the time when faced with two extremes the truth is often found in the middle and a greater understanding of differing points of view adds to ones outlook on life on both sides.

This debate is still a funny thing to me. I surely wouldn't advise someone without a nic addiction to vape but I don't have an issue with it. I'd also tell someone who doesn't drink they shouldn't get into a daily drinking habit (for numerous non-judgmental reasons, don't flame if you drink daily) but it's up to them as long as booze is legal. As long as nicotine is a legal substance, I don't see how it's not fair game in any form for any legal adult.

Vaping would benefit from more popularity...it buys a better lobby. Cigarettes fell because the health numbers were too staggering for any amount of money to overcome and people in America have been getting off the cigarette train in droves for a long time now. Alcohol still has fruit flavors and alcopops because they have better numbers and though the health impact is staggeringly high (directly and indirectly), most people don't realize it. I don't think vaping will have a health impact dramatic enough to counter what some money and lobbying could do for it.

Again you are twisting things to go your way. First you say I don't know anything because my post count is low. Post count doesn't determine a person's knowledge, it merely shows how long they have been on THIS site.
Then you go saying I didn't know about the FDA saying sweet flavors could be marketed towards kids until you brought it up. Again I show how I posted on the subject days ago.

Now you try to say I am ignoring this site's veterans, based on what? Because I point out that you are referring to me as a ignorant child? Because you claim I don't know about this or that, when in fact I probably know more on the subjects than you do.

I agree with everything you said. Moreover I just don't know why some people feel like they have more of a right and a need to belittle others who choose to use nicotine and a better way to get nic right off the bat. I say that vaping is the right choice if you do decide to use nicotine. Why not? We use nicotine because we like the effect. That is the same reason why they use it. Simple.

I can provide proof that vaping has been a very positive factor in my health improving. I even took a 3 month break from vaping and went back to it with no health problems. And I would notice. I have asthma.

And you have long term studies that show what vaping will do to a normal person in 3 years, 5 years, longer? 3 different times in my life I have been told by doctors to take what was an over the counter medicine that should have been completely safe, only to have them pulled from the market within a year that I was taking it (they had been out for a number of years before that) because of rare untreatable illnesses they caused.

Two things: If you werent trying to turn this into a pissing match then why are you STILL making comments like "when in fact, I probably know more than you do"?

And two: No one ever said they cant, we said they shouldnt and then other members attempted to scold us because we offended their sense of entitlement.

I think its probably best for both of us to continue this "debate" at a later time. Its getting late and seems like your feelings are getting raw.

I agree. Moreover they shouldn't be called names for using nicotine, when it is known to be enjoyable, and enjoyed by the very people calling names. That just does not make any sense to me whatsoever.

This is for everyone: If you think that it was a bad decision to start smoking, you are right. Vaping as is stands has no known health risks. I will go further buy stating that any and all studies so far on the liquids that we choose to vape have been found to be non harmful as well. As for long term studies... true there have not been any. But for now it is a relatively safe way to use nicotine. That causes no harm to those around us.

So like I said before just because WE ex-smokers have made the poor decision in the past to start smoking, does not mean we should belittle others how would want to vape. It is unjust, unkind and beyond hypocritical to do so.
