why do we use the term e-cigarette?

Just wondering with all the legislature and bans and politics that are going on why we shoot our cause in the foot by using e-cigarette?
we want to push the fact that it is safer, healthier, and with the exception of tobacco extract juices, not a tobacco product in any way but we still use a tobacco related term to name the devices.
Am I dumb or does this make sense to anyone else?

its because of the cigalikes.. Its what gets new ppl into vaping and for some gets kids into smoking.

Here locally the first place where u get in touch with e cigarettes is the place where u buy your smokes.. and they mostly have cigalikes. The term e-smoke doesnt do it justice either.. its not smoke .. and some ppl react the same as my cat when they accidentily cross paths with a vapor cloud.. it looks like smoke so it must be.

It's just the name that's been established. When they were invented they called them "electronic cigarettes" because it was clear and smokers knew, well, sort of knew, what it was. It was supposed to be "like" a cigarette. I think it just had to do with marketing to start getting people interested.

Nowadays though, I think the community needs to separate itself as much as possible from words that associate with tobacco products and smoking.

We already call ourselves "vapers" as opposed to "smokers" and a lot of us online refer to our e-cigs as "personal vaporizers" or PV's and APV's. I think it'll just take time for the new terminology to settle in.

I believe the name is irrelevant, when you read "drugstore" you don't think of a place where you know.... the "other" drugs are sold....
People need no names when they see you vaping from afar to think you are smoking.....
Its decades of intense anti tobacco campaigning that embedded the thought of someone exhaling something other than air as evil, dirty, dangerous and the cause of all your woes.
So no matter what you call it, we have a battle ahead of us

Only cigalikes are called e-cigarettes. If you are using a mod or a vv/vw device it's called a APV or advanced personal vaporizer. I would even call an ego powered device a PV not a electronic cigarette.

I use the term for the device, a "vape". After a dozen times, my wife still says, "Huh?".

"Your E-cig, you stupid $%^&*!". (not really but I want to sometimes)

Ugh..

I agree Ecigs are the lookalike disposables.

Let's all try to agree on something. I like the term, "vape".

I would love to see e-cig go away and it be called what it actually is, rather than an easy manipulated name like e-cigaret..

That plays so much into the molding of thinking when these ...... politicians and authors of the news and all the rest of them that try making vape look like smoke..

If we want them to see vape ,we need to separate from what we left as much as possible..
otherwise it just looks like a different kind of smoking and not the different animal that it actually is..

We are taking breathing treatments, while our lungs are healing using vaporizers after we left the lung hogs.
That just burns them right in the britches pocket that holds their wallet..
