My local health food store sells 16 oz for $8. It will be even less at yours. The only things cheaper here than on the mainland are papayas and pineapples.
The pricing is purely a function of the market, and what a particular supplier feels he can get away with. You are, I'm afraid, going to either have to do a lot of web surfing, or keep asking the folks here for advice. I have found most of my suppliers from suggestions made here by other posters. ECF is the best resource around - hands down!
Well FWIW the term 'vegetable' covers a lot of ground. Cottonseed, rape seed (Canola), almost anything plant based. None of our ancestors ate cotton or rape seed.
For the discriminating, this glycerin may be the best. Palm oil has been used and consumed for centuries.

Just FYI, it doesn't matter what vegitable the oil comes from. Once it is separated from the lipid(fat), and is 99% pure USP Glycerol, it makes virtually no difference what vegie it came from. It's all the same.

Except taste matters to me, and that Humco VG(it is VG) doesn't taste very good to me. That is that particular brands additives(whatever they are) give it a funny taste to me and others. I use Now brand which I get at Whole Foods, and it is 99.9% pure, rather than 99.5% like the Humco/CVS/Walgreens/Walmart brand(all the same stuff). So whatever their .5% additives are, I don't like them.
