what is used on a good ole carto. Im wondering because i have burnt them befor and inhaled that nastiness and it was horrid. i have been told it was a type of polly fill but im a welder and know what happens to polyester when it is heated up or burnt.
There's a cotton diaper around the coil and poly fill around the diaper. When you burn through the cotton to the poly fill thats when you get the nasties.

I suspect the carto I have simply does not register as nasty until the outer poly is touched by a hot coil. I hope yours are cotton because I dont know what my purchased carto diaper is made from, but it would need a changing before it went on any babies in my family.
Off Topic Rant: Forum vendors such as DV play dirty here & shut off negative experience discussion by responding with threats of you can not post here anymore & then call in monkeys to non humorously shoot @ mE (I may have PTSD issues partially due to gun violence) & most of his fanboys do not add to the discussion but only insult mE(I guess to protect vendors outright insults only to insult are allowed & possibly encouraged on ECF. My puresmoker complaints got similar fanboy insults done only to insult while defending vendors out of loyalty & not addressing my legit issues.). that forums ECF moderator then adds "The guy seems "certifiable" adding insult to my born disabilities language difficulties that make mE odd & not typical. My gripes start seemingly too hostile (I used that tone to await the reaction & would have likely settled down if not shut up & shown the door. He is not open to any discussion & went into a mainly denial & attack mode.) I was & am a still very upset & disappointed consumer, but the vendors here are able to be protected bullies with gangs shooting insults @ upset ECF members whom feel ripped off & expose their BS ways that may affect other ECFers & save them the pain of returns or refunds due to image theft & or shoddy products aimed the mesh users. If Eric or puresmoker could have been the bigger man & worked with my upset kindly, a return & possible future honest dealings may have sprouted. DV did not warn mE no mesh would be a fail & his excuse is BS. I was his untold beta tester IMO.
I sometimes do not contact vendors behind closed doors when I feel serious or multiple issue arise that I feel the ECF community should be aware of. Doing so keeps all eyes from legit complaints that assist in choosing vendors. Dude is lifting other peoples images & not even delivering the product in the stolen image. False advertising! + He knew I was being used as a beta tester & our western markets use mesh mainly in these RA devices. I am told that is all on mE & I was not his beta [BS]. Welcome to mE letting RA users know the deal if they can tolerate my poor writing skills & my no "thank you sir may I have another" "I would rather let others see your ways" way. I was & am a turd (in life to some) & likely to him. He produced mE & I do not flush easily.
I do not comprehend the deal with the monkeys in the vendor forums. Is AG51 paid $ to do so or just a sometime rude nut like mE acting as vendor spicer & slicer/shooter. 19000 post in a year? 27 post per day? Most Post as far as i can tell seemingly push/boast vapeware products in vendor forums? Something smells fishy to mE & AG51 seems like more then just a talented image making nut enthusiastic about vape shops wares. I could be wrong but It seems odder than odd behavior(which can be neat & I am very familiar with & well versed in oddness o_0).

The AGA-S is a mesh users nightmare wick plate close to twice the thickness of a duds. It has the same size wick hole & can not be expanded due to no room to do so. & I was not told I was his beta tester. He knows mesh is what people in our western markets wanted & I am made out to be the only .... I may need to soon find another forum to entertain. I write odd & not nonstandard because I taught myself to read & write. I am a autistic-E freak with damage or mutation in the language parts of my brain since birth(not from drugs nor my much later in life lichen smoking.
I assumed lol NOT & some RA users have been informed &/or warned about my experience with DV & the AGA-S. I will likely make a video about the AGA-S aka the true DUD soon to keep mesh users from getting the meshers nightmare.
Just rewicked my VVN with #10 bamboo, 3 strands. 1.4Ω with Kanthal A 30awg.
Boiled the bamboo last night, let it dry overnight.
The flavor is pretty damned immense. I've read of a 'woody' flavor from the bamboo, but either I can't taste it or it blends with this juice really well (Ahlusion's Blue Grass Burley, 30VG, 24mg). Giant plumes of vapor and the strongest TH I've experienced yet.
I've got some untreated hemp and there is some cotton around here some where.
I was dubious I'd like the bamboo as much as SS mesh but so far this stuff has me floored. No dry hits, its wicking great. Think one more strand is necessary as the grommet isn't seating properly (vapor is entering the tank).
edit: nevermind, its seems to have stopped

Just went and grabbed the hemp I've got lying around.
Its Elements #1833 Taupe/Beige which worries me, as I'm pretty certain its been colored. Just emailed The Beadery to ask whats up with it.
Was hoping to use it but now I'm dubious, will have to probably order some if I want to try it.

Maybe BJ knows more - but that Bead Smith brand states 'natural color' which means it could have coloring added after/during processing.
While we are on hemp... This brand states "All Natural". From Romania. I boiled it three times. I should have taken a picture of what came out of this. Not sure if it was sizing, processing material or just what hemp does when it boils. It was a frothy, granular, brown and white funk that left a ring on the pan and took a bit of elbow grease and stainless steel to clean. Is this safe?

@ MISTer E : A long time ago we did many tests on cartos and I must have torn apart over a hundred. I sent many swatches of the different material to labs for test. All the lab test came back that the diapers were cotton so your video really surprised me. Just another reason why I quite using them. If I have to vape poly fumes I would rather smoke analogs and every carto I ever took apart the cotton was burnt and some poly melted.

T have boiled both hemp purchases I made and did not have any strange funk in the water. Much less than what I get when I boil SS mesh. For those who oxidize before rolling, you can't imagine how much gunk you think you are burning off, I boiled one after oxidizing and it was eye opening.

It's possible seeing as where it came from that it is all natural hemp. Maybe with the hand rubbing there was some flavor transference. Whats it smell like if you burn it before you boil it?
I've been lurking this thread for some time and learning a lot from it. I can't help but notice that the quest reminds me of my boyhood reading about Thomas Edison's quest for a workable filament for his light bulb. If I recall, both cotton and bamboo ended up on the short list. The main differences, of course, were a lot more wattage and a vacuum condition (instead of wetness) to prevent burning.
Point made. All materials are not the same. Maybe more processed "natural materials" are better. (Aunt Lydia's for example).
Good advice, to always clean your materials. Using a dish detergent wash/rinse in addition to boiling to helps remove machine oils from metals as an extra measure. Doing both probably would solve a lot of that "off taste" ss mesh wick user talk about. I learned the hard way...
I think you nailed it. I don't think they really processed this other than a hand type finish. Maybe some wax? Its a very raw material. Compared to BJ's material in his picture, this stuff look like they just stripped it of the vine (bush?). It very rough and burns very woodsy, like a match stick.
I think what was coming off in the boil was just loose natural cellulose materials and some type of wax. What was interesting was that after I boiled it, the material did not get softer. Still rough, but still wicks really good.
I guess "All natural" is not always best.
I have a couple 2 kilo spools of 2 thread hemp yarn. I boiled a few feet of it several times and there was almost no sizing contaminants I could see. even after all the cleaning it still smelled like burlap, so I shelved it without trying it. I may have to pull it back out and run a tank through it to see if the taste goes away.
Has anyone tried Aunt Lydia's bamboo yarn on the Odysseus (v2) specifically?
I will probably try cotton but the bamboo yarn might be easier... just wondering how many strands you use for a good setup. I think people use 3 on a Vivi Nova but can't find anything on using the bamboo for Ody.
Also wondering how it is with 100% VG (Boba's Bounty)
Also, does anyone know if the "natural" yarn color is literally the natural color or is it dyed? I know people boil and clean it first but I'm just curious..

I don't have any Ody, but I have a Penelope and use it in that. The number of strands you use really depends on the coil you make. Because the threads swell with juice, you don't want your wick to be tight in the coil when it's dry. I wrap my coil around a nail and then pull six strands through the coil. That way I can't wind the coil too tight. On my A7 I wrap around the inner hook of a paper clip and make a flat coil, and pull 10 threads through.
