I need some advice; I wicked rdas and bf squonk attys for years no problems. I’ve always had issues with rtas. After a long hiatus I came back to vaping using the Cthulhu aio and nautilus 1.8ohm coils. Loved it and wanted to try rebuilding again. I’ve been staying close to 1.8 ohms. I have the atmizoo vapeshell and vicious ant genos. I can’t seem to wick these things for the long term. Maybe after half an hour I’m getting dry hits or burnt wicks. I’m using 30g kanthal and rayon. I’ve tried short wicks and long wicks . Coil ID is 2.5mm. Any suggestions?

I don't have those two. I use Xeta and KF, both with 28g kanthal, 2.5 coils, around 1.2 ohms. I looked up yours and they look similar to the vapesnail I have but don't use anymore because I broke it.

What power are you using? I assume too much power would cause what you are getting.

In my KF the wick sticks down into wells below the coil like yours. With that I found I have to trim the wick tails a lot or I get burned wicks and dry hits. It can't be tight in the well. That wasn't a problem with the vapesnail though. It had bigger wells like yours.

I haven't used 30g since Pro Tank days. Don't see any reason 30g would be more prone to burning wicks than 28g.

1.8 is quite high resistance. I'm guessing that means a longer coil. Maybe that makes it more likely that juice can't get to the center of the coil.

Without knowing the inserts you are using I suggest lowering the power, thinning the tails of the wicks, trying lower resistance coils, and maybe trying 30g wire if you have any.

Good luck

In general a lot of RTAs need thicker shorter wicks (unless they use glass rope and then it’s the opposite) and they’re a lot less forgiving. Also 1.8 ohm is in the MTL range and a lot of MTL coils are tiny. A lot of them prevent leaks by either vacuum or plugging the inlet completely with the cotton and using capillary action to feed the coil. Every one is a bit (or more than a bit) different.

My favorite RTA is a steam crave aromamizer plus which is roundly hated by some.

TLDNR: particulars of that atty
It’s gigantic and uses both vacuum and capillary action plugging to prevent leaks. You gotta do both. It’s a DL and the build deck (which is replaceable!) has a massive chamber so you can do weird builds in it. the way I wick it needs to be removed so you can get to the back of it. I’ve got 4 (or 6 if you count “mistake decks”) I wick them and put them in little vials which I carry around so I can use em like coil cartridges. Their mesh deck used to suck. I prefer the double coil flat top decks.
