But I'm talking about initial investment.

Currently, I keep my nic in the freezer of an old, extra fridge I have that's from about the late 80s or early 90s. The cost to run it is about $10 per month.

I know this becuase I only started using it again when I started hording nic, and that's how much my electric bill increased, $10 per month.

I guarantee you that 1 cu ft freezer will cost less to run.

However, my main point was not about how cheap it is to store nic, but how cheap it is to store nic as opposed to trying to play games with state and local governments (and their alphabet goon squads) by pretending you are a tobacco reseller when in fact you are just an end user. If you want to talk about long term costs, let's talk about how much lawyers cost, never mind tobacco lawyers. And we don't even have to talk about the time and anxiety expense to come to the conclusion that the choice is clear: get a freezer and stock up and sleep well.

If a person is going to go through all the time, expense and inevitable legal trouble that comes with setting themself up as a fake tobacco reseller, one would be better just off buying a small freezer and nic while they still can.
Oh, I definitely wasn't disagreeing with the wisdom of stocking & storing. I've got over 4 liters on hand myself. So far, it's taking up space in an otherwise in service deep freeze and I'm not yet seeing a need for a devoted unit. The cost to operate will depend on your local energy costs, and hopefully will be a renewable source before too much longer (hope, hope).

You have to ask them. Some might do it, some won't. But considering that the REAL profit in a vape shop is in consumables, especially juice, and I see little reason for a vape shop to go through the expense that comes along with storing nic base inventory. Let's face if MOST vapers are not into DIY. they are perfectly happy to buy premade eliquid. Cigarettes are easy, buy, light-up, smoke, buy again.

I emailed Good Guy Vapes about it. They are the largest local resellers of vape products. DIY is actually growing in NJ out of necessity due to legislation. They still sell fruit flavors in retail apparently, but legally speaking they shouldn't. Anything with a "characterizing flavor" is technically illegal to purchase for resale here, so unless they already had a large stock of it before the ban, it would be against the law. No one is enforcing it yet apparently, but they may. I know the sellers I purchased juice from a year ago will no longer ship to my address since the law changed.

I agree. Only brought up buying a freezer becuase OP has no freezer space to devote to nic base.

@lostbladder -

Right now here's what you can get and be set for a good while:

$116 - 1.1 cu. ft. freezer already linked to in a previous post (will fit on a countertop, on the floor in an out of the way place, etc. and will easily hold 4L of rebottled nic base)

$163.36 - 4L 100mg/mL nic base in 100% VG base @ $42.99 each, then 5% off the total...when you use the coupon code VAPEMAG, w/Free S/H: Nicotine Solution - 100mg Liter

$36.98 w/Free S/H to you - for more than enough bottles and caps you'd need to break up 4L of nic base for freezer storage - linked below - (1) 24pk. of 4oz. Amber Glass Boston Round Bottles with Black Polycone Lined Cap
(1) 12 pk of the same bottles = (36) 4oz. bottles = 32 needed to break up the 4L of nic base, and it would leave you 4 extras in case of breakage or to use for something else. Glass Bottle Outlet ships bottles from their main location in Florida, to buyers in the Eastern US.
These bottles: 4 oz. Amber Boston Round with Black Cone Lined Cap (22/400) (V5) (V3)

$316.34 TOTAL - (1) 1.1 cu.ft. freezer + (4L) of 100mg/mL nic base + (36) of the proper bottles and caps needed to break up the nic base for longterm freezer storage (you'd have some extra bottles & caps, too)

Investing that amount now will put you in a very good position to be able to make your DIY to continue vaping for many years. Averaged out over 20 years = $15.82/year. Yes, you'll likely need to buy a replacement small freezer later, but even considering that...it's a terrific investment, IMO.

ETA: If you wanted to buy the 100mg/mL nic base in 100% VG base by the gallon instead...it would be $151.99 TOTAL, again w/Free S/H, after the 5% off coupon code VAPEMAG was applied. It would be 160mL less than the 4L would give you, but it would cost $11.37 less than the 4L. The new total then for everything (freezer, nic base, and bottles & caps) would be $304.97.

Nicotine Solution - 100mg Gallon

I just checked the replacement remote control I received earlier today. I am now very concerned about the future. How did they sneak this into legislation? ;)

You better make sure your TV is set to a channel you like because the time may come when you can't change the channel any more.

Never thought of that.

Ok then, ESPN it is.

Wait a second, maybe the History channel or NatGeo. No, too many reruns.

ESPN it is. Done!

There are other folks on ECF who also live in 'restrictive' states. Many of them have their vape gear and DIY supplies shipped to friends or family in other states. They then ship to the folks who live in the draconian states.

Someone may have already posted that. If so, sorry.

Do you know a place to buy VG/PG after the ban? When I look it up, only vape related sellers pop up. I'd hate to go through with all this and end up stuck with just nicotine, you know what I mean?

Edit:
Found these actually (Had to look up the full names not the short-hand please forgive my small brain);

Vegetable Glycerine

Propylene Glycol (99.7 USP Food Grade)

Amazon
Ebay
Tractor Supply
Bulk Apothecary

Not sure why all you find is vape retailers lol. It's not a vape product. There are many non-vape sources that carry non-vape branded VG and PG. No need to worry. However, due to pandemic, there are shortages which is why Heartland does not have any Plain PG or VG for sale and are not selling PG-based nic.

PG and VG are used to make way more than just eliquid and are available to even us lowly consumers in small amounts, not jsut 55 gallon drums.

I get my VG from Amazon. ($13.47 a quart or $29.95 a gallon)

You might want to give Bulk Apothecary a try sometime. If you buy 2 gallons of VG (which is definitely a better deal S/H wise than just 1), and sign up for their email newsletters, you'd get 15% off your first order. I tested a Cart like that to a Salem, Oregon zip code and it came out to $45.90 for 2 gallons delivered. Would save you $14.00. Would likely be the same, or even a little less, for S/H if you got 1 VG and 1 PG, since a gallon of PG weighs 2lbs. less than a gallon of VG.

Quite a few of us have been ordering our PG and VG from them for years. They run discount codes for $10 off a $29 or more order, and/or sometimes 17% of your order, no matter the order total. They supply many US businesses with both of those products. They're both great quality, too, IMO and that of others.

I go through about a quart a year. Considering that when I quit I was paying ~$200 a month on smokes, $13.47 is pretty cheap enough. (+free shipping with Amazon Prime) :)

Dear Shop Savvy Lady! Do you know where one can get some caps with phenolic cones? I don't need a case! I just want a handful of different sizes--mostly18-400,20-400, 22-400. I have tons of bottles already, but I would like to have some extra new caps on hand.

Everywhere I looked it's either wholesale or they are out of stock on this size or that.

Most places that sell them, especially individually...have them for a low cost, but their S/H cost is ordinarily high. For example, Heartland has them in several sizes, but they wanted $8+change for S/H to send just a dozen total to me! PM me though, as I know I can definitely help you with 1 of those sizes, and possibly the other 2. :)

ETA: By the way, the term "phenolic" doesn't mean a cap has a polycone liner in it. Phenolic is the type of plastic cap it is. Description from a manufacturer: "Durable black phenolic caps provide strength and durability with heat-resistant and insulating properties. Phenolic caps are often used in laboratory environments as they are ideal for variety of aggressive products due to strong resistance to chemical corrosion and moisture absorption."

Phenolic caps often DO come with a polycone liner in them, but they're also sold with different, flat liners (usually very thin foam or a glossy white kind of thin coated cardboard).
