The windows in my small apartment are prone to getting coated with what I assume is a VG film, the byproduct of vaping and filling the place with plumes of vapor. Seriously, sometimes it looks like a London fog in my apartment, and every three days I need to clean the windows.

So, I just want to be able to wrap my head around this...what's happening in my lungs? My body absorbs the "film", is that correct? I don't feel like my lungs are coated with anything, no respiration troubles at all after 18 months of vaping, especially compared to the respiratory mess I was when I smoked.

So what gives...film on the window, what's in the lungs?

The layer of film is not only VG but what happens when condensation (moisture) is high in the air. Just like VG produces more clouds it also creates more moisture. As for whats happening inside of our bodies, I can't tell you for certain as I'm not a doctor. My theory is that it's simply moisture, and just like we can breathe in humid enviornments (albeit not well) with little to no damage, vg vapor should have the similar effect, just a little more concentrated.

Lets keep in mind, I'm not a doctor nor did I take any science classes past grade 9, so this is really just me thinking out loud. Im probably wrong, but these are just my thoughts.

Yes, one way or another, your lungs have to be absorbing that film of stuff into the bloodstream and process it;

Not any where near as bad for ya as smoking.
However Vaping is not totally risk free. Vaping is much safer than smoking but not vaping is safer than vaping.
Time will tell the long term complications from vaping.

For me at my age it is a no brainer since I was going to smoke till I died if I had not switched to vaping.

This is an interesting subject though, one I have wondered about myself and the topic of several forum threads for few years now. I think this is one of the things we don't know about vaping yet, or, I would love to hear a knowledgeable/educated explanation versus supposition.

ETA: Vaping while driving - dirty windows?

Mostly VG, a non toxic substance and whatever is in your eliquid, imagine boiling a pot of water, that steam condensates on your window, its the same idea with your eliquid. since it's a thicker liquid it won't evaporate like water does.

Really? You are vaping enough to effect the windows in your Apt in 3 days? If you are really concerned about the health effects of vaping, re-thinking the amount you vape might be a consideration.

It is metabolized quite easily by a process called beta-oxidation. This process results in the production of CO2 and H2O and is a quite normal, common, and natural catabolic process.

THIS!
Whatever the long term effects of vaping will turn out to be I expect them to be somewhat proportional to the amount of vapor inhaled.

the PG/VG may not turn out to be any culprits in any negative effects of vaping. The other stuff in ejuice may be the bad stuff? We do not yet know.

hrmmmmmmm I do not vape very many ml per day, low VG, high PG, low watts, high ohms and I clean film off my computer screen every day, my windows at least once a week.... and no it's not sugar water or water condensation which evaporates and does not leave a greasy film...

Well let's look at this in an unscientific method, and I'll try not to be too disgusting.

When I smoked I would have a morning cough that would produce a brownish black discharge (let's go with discharge). That cleared up shortly after quitting. Now that I vape, I still get an occasional morning cough, but it produces a clear, slightly thick discharge (again, let's go with discharge). Also the smokers cough left me with some chest discomfort, the new morning cough makes me feel like I just ran my lungs through a carwash.

If there is in fact a build up in the lungs, it seems to be less threatening than the stuff left behind from smoking.

Same here. I vape a LOT on the weekends and in my truck to work and back. I noticed a "film" on my truck windows a couple of weeks ago and wondered if it was from the vape. I know one thing, it's a LOT better than the yellow stains from cigarettes I used to get.

I only have to clean my truck windows once a year so every 3 days in an apartment seems like a lot to me.
It seems like a lot to me as well. I wouldn't clean them every 3 days even if they had film on them. lol

Me either. I'm doing good if I vacuum every 3 days.
Same here. lol. And the ONLY reason I do that is because I have 2 big-time shedding dogs. :D
All that said, I have to admit that I vape a lot. I think I go through 2 ml per weekday with 7 pieces of nic gum, and 4ml each Saturday and Sunday for a grand total of 18ml a week. I notice that by Tuesday morning, I usually cough up phlegm. (sorry so gross). But, at least it's not black anymore. And I don't miss having to go to sleep with a cough drop in my mouth every night. When I smoked, I'd cough ALL day long. I couldn't laugh without choking. Now, I can seriously LOL without the choking consequences. Woohoo!:thumb:
