Hey there Vaping friend. So I am about to get my first RDA, should be within the next couple days, and I was just wondering which wire I should use if I wanted to build coils in the range of .4ohms to roughly like .8-.9ohms max? Would prefer a dual coil setup if that makes a difference in selection
Also, how many wraps should I use as I know that that also affects the resistance

Here you go, Rando:

Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

The "Coil Wrapping" page has everything you need to calculate coil resistance. Bear in mind that when it comes to wire, as the gauge goes down in number, the wire thickness goes up, and its resistance goes down.

If you're getting into rebuilding, I'd strongly recommend getting something to test your resistance, either a multimeter or one of the many purpose-built atomizer resistance testers.

Yep, as the number of wraps increases, the resistance does as well.

Edited to add:

I'm not trying to avoid suggesting a wire gauge/coil diameter/resistance, because everyone has different tastes when it comes to vaping. You can do dual 0.4 ohm coils with a variety of gauges and coil diameters, and it all comes down to how you like to vape.

What mod/atomizer combo are you looking to set up?

Savoir-Faire is everywhere!
Here's a chart of various coils built by people here on ECF that lists the wire gauge, number of wraps, what they wrapped the wire around to get whatever diameter, and the resulting resistance in ohms.

I find it quite helpful.

Here's the thread that led to the chart:

I placed 2 different orders through FT, had to do them as separate orders due to funds at the time. One of the orders is for the Beast Box Styled Mech Mod and the Snowman RDA. The other order I placed is for the Mutation x V4 1:1 as well as an Authentic Eleaf Digital Ohmmeter + Voltmeter. Hoping to have at least one of the orders within the next week or two. If I just get the MOD and RDA order first then my plan was to just build a few coils, install and then remove them from the deck just to get an idea of setting it up. Not firing anything until I have the meter

In that case I'd start with dual coil, 26g, 8 wraps, 2.5mm ID, 0.5 ohms

See how you like that and go from there.
:)
Thank you so much. Haha I was actually just looking at almost that exact configuration on the coil calculator thing on Steam Engine. I had only used it before for the ohms law calculator. Never realized the other really useful features it has to offer

I vape RTAs and my preferred resistance is .8 ohms.

I mostly use 2 mm coils and I am using a coil made of 26 gauge with 8 wraps. It comes in at .79 ohms. Dual coils will half that.

I prefer single coils. But that's me.

What kind of cloud production do you get from that? Ive been cloud chasing lately, hence my current progression through MODs and attys

Let's put it this way. Several people have asked to see the wattage I am vaping at they get this stunned look on their face and say but that's impossible. I'm vaping at 40 watts and a .5 ohm coil.

I say that's the difference of 70%vg instead of 50/50, and more wraps with a smaller diameter coil.

Hello!

I find Steam Engine | free vaping calculators to be quite helpful. Like the spreadsheet above, you can pick off the wire type (Kanthal, SS, Ni, Ti, etc.) and get a pretty good idea of what you need to wrap.

The following is a result of a 1.44Ω, 30g parallel, single coil in a Velocity RDA

I don't think I was over 20W....

I'll see your 8 wraps ad raise you 20. Lol! 14 wrap dual 24G N80's. I have a 96% VG juice that tastes awesome and this thing turns it into a fog bank quick, but it needs 80W min and there's still some ramp up time.

Or there's this. 8 wrap 2 strand parallel 28G. Makes some nice, dense, but smaller clouds at 35W. Both builds come in just above .6 ohms.

Haven't tried too many juices yet but I already know I'm not a huge fan of high PGs. I'd rather cloud over flavor...although I have had a couple good flavors, but they were 80%pg

Yes but I'm vaping single coil by choice, and 8 wraps gives me a satisfactory vape, then I'm vaping at 12.5 watts or less.

I am vaping a DIY Peach Mango that us 70%vg 30%pg. Been vaping 0 nic since Saturday.
