Wire Mesh and Poly Carbonate Tubing, Possible coop for genisis build.

It seems there are a ton of manufacturers of the Poly Carbonate Tubing and Wire Mesh out there. The problem is that they want to sell only in bulk quantities.
It seems that there is the need for a coop possible for these materials.

Do we think this is a good idea?

If so, what materials are on the hit list. My guesses are

1. Polycarbonate Tubing, 7/8" OD, 3/4" ID? some length/s
2. 400 by 400 square per inch 316 (or 304) stainless stell mesh, 36 % open area, some wic size dimensions.

I think wire, orings, connectors, etc. are availabe in sufficiently small quantites.
What do you guys think?
How many would be interested in pooling in on a bulk purchase?

You can get samples of the tubing and stainless steel mesh if you look. A quick search located these:

1. http://www.petroextrusion.com/stocktubing.html
2. 400 Mesh Stainless Steel Twill Type 316 .0012 Wire Diameter 48 Inches Wide Screen

Of course those examples aren't perfect. The tubing has the proper ID, but the 3/4ID tubing has OD of 1", so it'd be a little fat, but I am still looking. Also, the stainless steel mesh cost $10 per sample.

If no others can be located though, you may have a pretty good idea...

I'm no expert, but I seem to remember reading that folks using anything but 'straight weave' mesh was giving bad results...

The #325 from the Stainless Steel Woven Wire Mesh in A4 sheet format: 304, 316, 316L

has been twill weave and the open are is less than standard weave. Hence it hasn't performed much differently than the #400 standard weave.

They've also recognized #400 as their best seller and have changed up their pricing some. A single sheet still adds to the cart at a lower price, but it looks like 2 sheets are roughly $20 shipped now-- and they have thrown in free sheets in the past.

This guy may be interested in doing some particular tube sizes for this group. He seems interested at least.
From an email:

Chris, I will send you a sample piece and it will be at no charge. Thanks for the information because I have been getting so many requests for samples for these tubes and I was wondering what the deal was. What are the usual sizes that are used in these electronic cigarettes. Let me know what you can. Thanks,

outstanding, I am trying to find out a good size for each piece. If we can determine a size that is required for 1 wick, then we can see how many we would need to get committed on a per wick price, and get the cost down as low as possible.
Thank you for you offer.

Wick size is 4" x 1.5" This will roll down to appox 1/16" And reach from one side bottom to the other.
Poly tubing size 7/8"OD x 3/4"ID x Approx (Bottom) 1 5/8" Long, (Top) 7/8" Long
O-Ring Size is 3/4"OD x 5/8"ID x 1/16" thickness

This help?

As i live in Manchester, United Kingdom and the company selling themeshcompany are 20 miles down the road in Warrington, I will give them a ring tomorrow. I will explain the coop and see if a discount is possible. No promises - yet!

Hi
gave them a ring this morning - unable to do business as Chris isn't in - and I need to talk to him!(- he's back -Monday )

The good news is they buy the mesh in a roll - or bolt as some know it. So I should be able to buy 4 inch wide strips (Don't know how wide the rolls are (stds are 36,44 & 54inches) - but i need to talk to Chris

So I will try again Monday

Sorry for posting in both threads last time - will now only post in this thread - thanks for the replys (both of them Dan!)
Cheers

Ok stop all searching for springs if you are in the SCUBAGEN3 CO-OP, a member has stepped forward (mjmetz,) He will be helping me package springs, we have worked out a way to have everyone that is ordering a unit to get 2 spring per unit. So you will receive a plastic bag in your shipment with 2 spring per unit you ordered at no cost to you. This is a great forum with outstanding people!
Thanks mjmetz for stepping up to do the bagging!
