I would be in for some mesh too but I would like extra to play with... maybe like 8 or 10 of the 3 wick size pieces. Remember not everybody is going to use the exact same way (tighter looser more less ect) so I want to experiment and find what I like best lol
Thanks again tillis for trying to set this up. :vapor:

Actually spring compression is the easy part. The way I do it is tin the nail end with the spring and washer already on it, tin the inside of the tube. Then stand the tube up, us a magnet like the ones on the end of those cheap screw drivers. Use the magnet to pick up the head of the nail, the brads suck (not stable) the flat nail head types work best. Now just insert the nail tip into the tube and heat it with a soldering iron while pushing down with the magnet. The nail will go into the tube and just feel the resistance of the spring. Then pull the soldering iron away and let it cool while maintaining pressure. Once cooled your done. It is ready to be mounted, that is for the neg post. The positive post, I solder the pos wire in the tube first and then do the same procedure as the neg post.
Sounds complicated but is really easy. I will post a video on the procedure when I get time.

Excellent tip - but I'm not close to the mounting yet (37 days right- but who's counting?!) I found some m2.5 nuts at Ace which are a bit thicker than I wanted, but no washers thick enough. At least with the nuts there is enough to bevel. Ace's mini selection goes down to 1.6, but once again the washers are as thin as you'd expect. I'm hoping the spring washers I ordered have a bit more heft to them. Hopefully I can get some time in the shop this weekend - I'm tired of grading papers every day.

State of Confusion
I'm not being negative, just sharing some information here.

I can tell you I don't need to be in a mesh or tube coop simply because I 'buddied up' with another coop member to share parts and they are already ordered. If you can't get traction on a general coop for these then that is an alternative method. Another thing is that I believe extra tube and mesh would sell quite quickly in the classys if you just wanted to recover some cost.

Tillis,
Not sure if the coop will come off or not, but here is the a summary so far from what I have read. Please correct me where appropriate.

Mesh strips. 4.5 " by 4 " (should make 3 scubagen Wicks)
~ cost 2 dollars per strip plus shipping, currenlty must be purchased in total in quanties of 12 (may change later)

caillel 5
Mianker 2
Nicksvap3 2
harmonic 8 to 10

If anyone else is interested, please post so we can try to determine if the need is there.

Piece size being 4 by 4.5 inches

It is clear everyone is thinking they need more mesh than I was expecting -
I was expecting "the better half" to get it right straight away with her years of experience doing rollups!

Looking at the above I could look at longer 4" pieces than 4.5" - Good - less cutting
But not sure how I would ensure safe packaging -
perhaps as they are going to be rolled up its not as critical as I thought -
something to think about.

Nice to know that we could offload mesh in the classified

I will speak to Chris Wednesday about the price for a 1meter by 1.2 meter piece.

This will give folkes a chance to read/ sign up to the idea

well I am hoping I 'get it right' pretty quick I hope but I expect it will need fine tuning. once I get it figured out I want some leftover to try some other ideas and such. hehe theres no way i'll be happy just building this and as much fuss as it is to get the stuff i figure i should stock up ;)
Also the more people want to get the bigger the chance we can make it happen right and give more people a chance to get some.
I only pick that number based on packaging if it makes it easier I could go by price and they can be whatever size is the least work for whoever is doing it.
The square pieces might be easier to keep the amounts figured out though...
Thank You again tillis
