I just want to say that ever since I jammed that balled up wire mesh in my cart, my e-cigar has been rockin'!!! I wish I had been clued into this a lot earlier.:D

Tribble --giving a penstyle cartridge a fill now with the mesh and will see how it does--The Pen sure does hold a lot of mesh---Sun

Better delete this pic. I can see it blown up to poster size by some anti-smoking group with the caption:

This Is Your Lungs On E-Cigs!!

I doubt that as you are trying to argue that residual was vaporized and that is the build up of the vapor--to the contrary--that is the build up of e-liquid that did not vaporize---Sun

It does beg the question, however, of what is coating our lungs, since a variety of oils are used in e-liquid. We know about where the nicotine goes (bloodstream to brain) and propylene glycol (becomes lactic acid in the blood, filtered and eliminated in a few hours). But what about the rest of that vapor content? What do e-smoker's lungs look like? I've been doing this 14 months. I'd sure be interested.

the only way I am going to be convinced that black gunk is purely the residue from vaporized liquid is when I have seen a used atomizer that hasn't had cart material anywhere near it during it's life!

i find this what our lungs look like stuff kinda silly to be honest.. our lungs are self cleaning organs.. the air we breath is full of dust and junk.. it goes in it gets removed..

i hate to imagine what 60 years worth of particulates and junk would look like all in one big pile and then think thats been in my longs..

so my answer to this kind of thinking is stop being so daft.. he he

ps.. if folks want to believe the stuff on that atomizer is burnt plastic thats up to them... i am 100% certain it aint but eveyone can think what they like.. why should i care... he he

Hey Kate ....yes your coils do look the same ......but I just can't seem to get my head around the Idea that the liquid can vaporize into 'lumpy' crunchy material.......lol.....I guess I won't be happy till I have confirmed it for myself. ....but I suppose I will only find out what you guys already know. .....and you can say .....'well I told you so.':)

I'm not trying to give you an opinion or say I know anything for sure Pete and I sure know the need to find out things for myself. I just wanted a chance to post my pictures ;)

Have you seen Knutselpeter's residue tests from eliquids, scroll down to the pics of the spoons to see what eliquid leaves behind - http://www.e-cigtest.com/showthread.php?t=8

Are you having any luck with your latest atomisers or are they still dropping in performance too quickly?

If you really want to know what the inside of your lungs look like when vaping, just take an empty clear jam jar and keep vaping into it without inhaling --you will find their is not much to see--actually very boring at the same time as being very enlighting. You are not going to get any black gunk even if you sit there doing it for a month straight---Sun

Don't worry kate I sure know what it's like when you keep telling someone something and they don't seem to listen......lol.

Hey The mini pipe from tim at smokejuice is absolutely brilliant but I still find the atomizers performance has dramatically dropped after just a week of use, even if I use the janty juice only.

That's a pity. Have you tried rotating between a couple so you're not getting used to the same one all the time? I know this might sound a bit silly but I sometimes wonder if I'm imagining performance change and find that stopping for a while and going back to the atomiser later makes it seem fine again.

I added a link to Knutselpeter's residue tests in my last post in case you missed it.

If that's the mess left after vaporising a half ml then imagine what's left after a week or a month at 2ml per day. It's no wonder atomisers clog, they're tiny and there isn't much room for all that crud.

I shall try that rotating the atomizers idea kate ....I did see the Knutselpeter's residue tests (I wish I could read more German)...It's the 'liquid' turning into 'lumps' bit that gets' me ..I can't see why it does that....It would make complete sense to me if it was a nice 'even coating all over the coil.

Is it small lumps you're seeing Pete? Could it be something like air bubbles forming in thick gloopy stuff and then hardening? I bet the coil isn't a constant temperature throughout either so some parts will have more carbon burned on than others.

I thought about the fact that the coil probably has hot spots..but as the residue builds up on any hot spot my mind thinks it would then automatically become a cooler spot so I can't help thinking it should always end up evening itself out and become a uniform coating, just like the chalk inside a kettle or a boiler, but I guess if it isn't the cart material ..it must be bubbling like toffee or something! .....I even wondered if it really was 'sugar' that's why I had thought hydrogen peroxide might be a great cleaner but that didn't touch the stuff. ..there just doesn't seem to be anything that will dissolve the lumpy bits.
