Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration* in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day:

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

* assuming you are not using one of the new "subΩ" clearomizers

I smoked over a pack a day and started at 24 but hated it, went to 12 and then quickly went to 6. I had mood swings and restless nights for about a week. After that I felt great. You just gotta suffer though. Part of it isn't even the nicotine. There's thousands of chemicals in cigarettes, and every one of them is there to enhance the nicotine experience. So no matter how much nicotine you vape, it's not going to hit you as hard as fast as a cig. On the plus side I didnt touch a cig 3 days after vaping.

Another aspect your device. A better tank will deliver more nicotine. Specially, a better coil. Look at the aspire nautilus mini. That's a great beginner tank and vapingcheap.com has a deal on them, 18 bucks. Totally worth it.

I was a pack a day smoker and when I started using the Halo Triton, I used 24 mg and it worked great for me and helped me not have any cravings for analogs. Once I upgraded to the iStick, I immediately started mixing my 24 mg juice with 6 mg juice, to yield 15 mg. Today when I started practicing direct to lung vaping, I realized that 15 mg is too high for that and dropped it down to 12 mg. It is still too high for direct to lung vaping, but it is working great for mouth to lung vaping. I need to get some 6 mg juice and vape that without blending it with 24 mg.

Hang on there...yes, the nic level might well be a part of the solution, but no one's asked what gear you're using!!

There's a huge difference in how nicotine hits you between using something like an "ego" battery with a clearomizer, and using something at low resistance and high watts.

MANY people quit cigs by starting at 18 or even 24 mg liquid when using a clearomizer or other device that might be 2 or more ohms.
MANY people end up vaping more powerful devices, that can run 30, 40, or more watts, with resistance under 1 ohm - and they usually do that with 6mg or less nicotine.

SO - what kind of equipment are you using?

If it's a "pen" style of any sort, you very likely want more nicotine. If you started right off with a "subtank" kind of thing, then that's not the problem - 6 should be OK, and you might need to vape more or vape less, depending on your symptoms!

Final tips, just to keep confusing you...
:)

1 - most of us who quit will say, "you can't vape too much. vape as much as you need to not smoke. puff, puff, puff, it's OK".
2 - nic can keep you awake! If you ARE chain-vaping, that might be part of it - it's a stimulant. Just seems unlikely that's what's happening if you're using 6mg though - unless you're like drinking it...
3 - YOU CAN QUIT. THousands of us did. (For me, honestly, it was stupid-easy, I wasn't even trying.)

I'm new to vaping. I quit smoking two days ago and switched to vaping. My question is when do the withdrawals get better? I don't have headaches but I'm moody and tired all the time and when I try to sleep I just lay there forever. Thanks everyone

I'm about a month into my 2nd stint of vaping, the first lasted a year but went back onto the analogues after some personal problems a couple of years back.

The one thing I've noticed on both occasions, is that for the first couple of weeks if I vaped enough to feel like my nicotine craving was being fully satisfied I was actually overdosing on it. Both times started on 18mg after being quite a heavy roll up smoker and every night without fail would be waking up in a puddle of sweat with the worst nightmares imaginable. The only time I can remember nightmares like it was when using nicotine patches years ago.

I think it's not just the nicotine you're trying to replace during that first couple of weeks, but the rest of the crap you've been consuming along with it too. Once your body clears itself out things should get much easier, well plain sailing in fact. :)

Thanks so much everyone. IM using the ipv mini with the Atlantis tank.

With that setup, then 6 to 9mg nic is perfectly fine. Have to remember that with vaping you are only replacing 1 chemical out of around 4000 that you get with actual smoking, and you are detoxing off some other alkaloids not present in nic liquid. This may sound backwards, but another key clue is how long did you smoke, 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20+ years? Do you have a highly addictive personality?

Try and use your vape as often as possible first under these situations especially, and remember to drink lots of water, green teas, and juices to help your body purge itself and lessen its cravings for the other smoking chemicals it is used to.

1) After you eat
2) High Stress Situations
3) Breaks at work
4) Driving to work or anywhere
5) After waking
6) Before going to bed.

For the first month to two months on average, some people it is just a week or two, others it can be 6months before the body can fully detox, everyone is different. With the above 6 listed cues that set people off to have an analog, start with your vape first, and still if you are having a craving of sorts, try smoking 1/3 to 1/2 a cig or even try a snus pouch, may sound like defeating the purpose, but it does not, you have to retrain your brain, because eventually the need for these crutches decreases to nil and you are tobacco free. Do not look at each smoking puff is a defeat, think about every cig you do not have to smoke during the rest of the day as a battle won in a victory, may loose some battles, but more smaller victories can win a full war =)

Good luck and welcome to the road to tobacco independence =)

Are you only vaping as often as you smoked? You may need to vape more often at first.

I'm just 2 months cig-free, but the first month or so I vaped almost non-stop to keep the cravings at bay. then I started vaping a bit less often, without trying or even noticing at first.

A cig now and then doesn't mean you've failed - so if you need to do that, do it!!

Hang in there. It will get easier.

Just take your time, if you need to hang onto the cigs for a little while longer then so be it. It's all about switching at your own pace. :) When I started it took me months before completely quitting cigs. It was a slow process of vaping more over smoking. After a month or 2 it was only a cig every few days if that.

Your body will go through detoxing from all the other crap that was in cigs. It's amazing just how much crap your body was used to from cigs. Drink plenty of water and hang in there. For me it did seem easier slowly reducing cig intake vs just stopping quickly.

I've been off cigs now for about 5 years and off nicotine completely for the past year. I still vape since the flavor possibilities are awesome. :)
