So the slots look the same width but the original is a longer slot .. I'm guessing. Narrow slots seem to have more adjustment for restriction I'm thinking. May be better for drawing vapor up thru chimney. Wider being more airy in my thinking, but would like to hear if I have that correct. Only 1 year into vaping so may be missing something.

Correct for the most part. Restriction from longer, narrow slots does have more of an effect on airflow, but also affects the rate of wicking in tanks with juice channels from underneath as opposed to open juice ports along the side of the barrel/chimney section. Larger diameter slots don't make as much of a difference until closed down most of the way. This is mainly due to larger airflow regardless of adjustment. It doesn't look to be a big difference side by side, but after 2 builds and wicking there's quite the difference in draw. I'd say the Mini has a similar draw to the original closed down 2/3 when a 2.5mm diameter coil is set low and about 1/2 closed when a 2.5mm diameter coil is lifted a little bit. It does generate a little better flavor due to being shorter. No leaks so far with filling. Will update if there are any changes.

Here's a size comparison. Left: Serpent Mini on top of an IPV D2. Right: Original Serpent RTA on a Vaporshark rDNA.

Me to. I'm using my small mods with 3ml tanks more and more. Infact I have 3 setup at home that I'm using. All with the Advocado 22.i don't use the Griffin's 22 that much as the advocado's seem to have better flavor for me.

I have always enjoyed compact setups due to ease of travel and use, but not many have existed until very recently. All of my taller tanks have been shelved (Subtank Mini, Silo Beast, Lemo 2). The smallest atomizers in my collection include the Kayfun Lite Plus w/ nano setup, Super Tank mini subohm tank, the Goblin mini (difficult to build due to extremely small build deck and I hated the bottom airflow channels), and now the Serpent mini. There is, however, a new trend of subohm tank companies making RTAs out of their tanks. I loved the SuperTank mini by Tobeco so the new Super Tank RTA is something I'm partial to. Every other RTA coming out seems tall and/or bulky. The Moonshot seems promising for open/direct lung inhales, but I'm not a fan of not being able to attach the build deck to a mod while building. I haven't used a genesis style tank due to the chance of leaking. The Theorem looks to be worthy, but filling seems finicky and the juice capacity is lacking. In conclusion to my long and opinionated rant, I'm quite enjoying my Serpent minis I apologize if I should've stopped typing a while ago.

What's the biggest build you can fit in the mini?

I have a fused alien (2x26g Ni80 with 38g Ni80) 5 wraps at 2.5mm diameter sitting low so the leads don't heat up too much. Resistance is at 0.39. 3mm is the widest I would go, but with the coil raised a little. I think you'll get better airflow with a build around 2.5mm and raised.

Thanks for the info! All my current tanks are dual coils and im happy with them. But i'd like to get a nice single coil tank that i can run on lower watts for out and about so batteries last longer. I've got the ace rba otw i'm about 90% sure it'll fit my reaper +. If that dont fit the bill will def get the serpent mini.

Thank you for the recommendation! That price point is definitely a drawback though lol. I'm not a fan of clones due to many bad experiences so I'll keep that one on the list for when I have a little extra $ to play with.

I've got the clone i'm happy with it. I get a lot of people have issues with them. I got the ft 10.50$ version. And raymo knows a good spot on ebay.

I'd say the original Serpent RTA is still my favorite being an RTA fan since I started vaping 3 years ago. With a shorty drip tip on it, it's not overbearingly tall. The battery life depends more on build resistance (I prefer it between 0.4-0.6 for the juice I predominantly vape). I go through about 1 battery per tank so about 2 - 18650s a day. There's normally 1/3-1/2 battery life left when I go to bed, but I circulate my 8 MXJOs consistently so that partially drained battery goes to the charger and a fresh one goes in ready for the morning. The juice consumption, vapor production, and especially flavor are by far the most impressive attributes for me. I was going through 12-16mls per day in the Super Tank mini. The Serpent will last me the whole day with one re-fill throughout the day totaling 8mls.

L-TR41N,

How in God's name do you get 8 ml in a standard Serpent?

Right on! The only single coil i've ever had was a subbie. I think of myself as a flavor chaser and my top 2 are the bellus and diablo. It's so hard pick 1 as my fav they both have pros and cons. Juice consumption is no biggie i diy. But thanks agian for the good info!

I swear every RTA I have used thus far has at least one con. It has forced me to learn how to build and wick though so no complaints for the most part. I'm still waiting on the perfect single coil RTA. A Serpent RTA with the Serpent mini deck and JFC like the Griffin would have been perfect. Let's see what's to come from the industry. I'm always on the lookout for something that may apply to my particular preferences.

That's like me with dual battery mod's my perfect one still yet to be made.

Correct for the most part. Larger diameter slots don't make as much of a difference until closed down most of the way. This is mainly due to larger airflow regardless of adjustment. It doesn't look to be a big difference side by side, but after 2 builds and wicking there's quite the difference in draw. I'd say the Mini has a similar draw to the original closed down 2/3 when a 3mm diameter coil is set low and about 1/2 closed when a 3mm diameter coil is lifted a little bit. It does generate a little better flavor due to being shorter. No leaks so far with filling. Will update if there are any changes.
I personally like long narrow slots(dual) for better draw on vaper. Rather than short wide slots(like Advocado has). I feel the draw for getting heavy or thick vapor is easier and less airy with the right adjustment. The wider the slot the finer the adjustment. A long narrow air flow gives me the ability to fine tune for better vapor hence flavor. The Kanger aerotank mini(I believe it was called) had a very urique air flow I really thought was the best I've seen to date. Even though the tank size was tiny, tiny, the air flow was awesome}, long slots with a taper at an angle that gradually openned up more and more as you turned the ring. In other words it had 2 points of change with the turning of the outer air flow ring. It became wider with the slope widening also. I think it's the best design I've seen to date. However did not see Kangertech use it again. I wondered why for gosh sakes. No one picked it up and tried to design this on bigger tanks. I will send a photo here soon, so you can see. To me it gives a very fine adjustment for drawing vapor over excessive air with the vapor like other cut slots. Thanks for info. Let me see if I can give a photo to you. Be back.

I liked the draw from the Aerotank as well as the Nautilus, but flavor was lacking for me. Right after that, sub ohm tanks such as the Atlantis and the Subtank mini landed. That started a whole new trend and really pushed innovation into the vaping world (in good and bad ways). I stuck with my Kayfuns and other single coil RTAs for quite some time due to preference for flavor. On the opposite spectrum, I had purchased every other RDA coming out for my cloud sessions. I do agree that longer, narrow slotted airflow compared to super wide airflow holes/slots are a much better design for versatility. Companies used to spend more time on a product with every type of vaper in mind. Nowadays, it's more about what is popular and what will sell. An open airy draw tends to distort dense, flavorful vapor unless you are vaping at high wattages at low resistances. In my opinion, very low ohm vaping isn't as enjoyable because you have no choice but to take harder draws with vapor forcing its way out of the atomizer. I've loved single coil RTAs since I started vaping because they are built to preserve and accentuate the flavor of various e-juice profiles. At the same time, that style of vaping gives a much more comfortable experience and thus more of an enjoyable vape. I'm glad the industry has come out with a few good single coil RTAs since the Lemo 2, but none have knocked it out of the park yet. Either way, as long as you find what works for you and keeps you off the death sticks then that's all that matters. There's no right or wrong setup nor a particular way one vapes that is "better" than another. We're all doing something better.

Going back to the original topic and an update after a day of use, the Serpent Mini holds maybe just over 2mls as compared to the 3mls that is advertised. 2 droppers full from a 30ml bottle and it's pretty much full. It goes through juice at a much higher rate than the original Serpent RTA. You can literally watch the level of juice drop per hit. Granted my build is a bit low in resistance (0.39), but only 0.10 lower than what I have in the original and the original only goes through an average of 8mls (10mls if fairly frequently vaping) per day. I've put 3 tanks or 6+mls through the Mini already just from a couple hours of total vaping. Flavor is still quite nice, but I do find myself missing the perfectly smooth draw that the original provides. Still zero leaks and not even a sign of any seepage from fillling or sitting.
