ok xvo experts :) so mini have got back with following:
As the chip in your XvoStick is working OK, there should not be any problem. It seems that the XvoStick doesn't work because the plate is not screwed in enough. You need to set up the plate in the atty hole, and fix it with a small screw. If you cannot screw it in, try to screw the atty in the plate and then screw them both in the atty hole. There are several holes in the atty hole, you need to screw the screw into the plate and choose one of the holes at the body of the XvoStick by touch. Then fix the plate in this hole. That should work.
I am not 100% sure what they meant so I have replied with this:

I'm still not getting a connection - anyone understand what they've told me to mean something else?

That's is exactly what I would have done.

I wonder if the electrical circuit to the 510 is complete? Do you have a multimeter?

I just tested it on my Xvostick, with the meter in DC mA mode and the dna board powered and idle I touched the positive lead to the 510 and the negative to the battery cover and got a reading. Tapped the fire button and the needle jumped. I'm not the most electrically inclined but this is what I expected to see happen from a working mod. I also tested this on my ipv D2 and only got a a reading when the fire button was pressed. As the dna board is constantly monitoring atty resistance and the YiHI board only reads the resistance when the mod is fired this is also what I expected to happen. I'm not concerned with the actual reading ... just to see if it registers.

I have got one (never used it) - but I can't find the right screwdriver to get the back off to put the battery in  I'll have a proper look tomorrow - thanks

That is their standard reply, Kate, and you'll get it even if you tell them that you've already adjusted it every which way but loose.

It was at that exact point that I first began to lose my patience...

Found a screwdriver - I set it up like this (not sure if is set to the right bit on the dial?) Red probe to 510, black to battery cover - nothing, fired button - nothing (apart from a black bar came up on left hand side of the screen as I fired and I can't find anything that says what that means?). Lol - I am so useless at this sort of thing!!

What I'm reading here (from them) says to me:

In order to fix the set screw, that set screw has to connect the plate to the body of the Xvo. Under the plate are several holes which means you have to "feel" for one of them when you choose the height you want for the plate.

I believe he's also saying to remove the plate and attach an atty topper to it. Then, reinsert both the topper and plate (as one single unit) back into the hole, then use the set screw to fix it into place.

Those set screws are TINY. :)

It's not you who's useless, Kate - it's the useless mod. Go back and tell them you've done everything, and that your problem is the same as mine. They're aware of this thread (they've told me), and are likely reading every word anyway. That you're getting push-back at all is surprising to me.

I'm seeing patterns with these things. Anyone watching, who MIGHT be considering one, they're marvelous. But do yourselves a favor and buy from VapinArt, or someone in your local country who will accept & process returns.

My personal belief is that VA is testing theirs, and sending the back ones back to Mini. They clearly bought a bunch, so they have the buying power to manage these things.

So far, I've not seen any of their clients complaining of issues. Given the number of issues we've already seen, the odds of their entire batch being perfect is so absurdly low that you're more likely to win the lottery.

Well, I will see what they say tomorrow. I suppose they need to make sure the obvious things are checked. The thing is I do assume it's something I'm doing wrong so have already double checked all the videos etc. to see if I've missed anything - and I told them in my first email I'd adjusted the 510 - - so annoying. (But of course you and katdarling already know that - at least I'm in good company :))

Tell me about it! - when I took it out to take the plate off to attach to the atty I nearly lost it.. Originally I just loosened the screw and spun the plate around with the allen key stopping at various points to see if I could get a connection - eventually though it won't spin any further which I assume is as far down as the plate will go?

Well said, Kat. Better yet, "translated." I didn't follow that part either.

correct!

Did you by chance try taking the plate out as they suggested? Somehow it's not computing to me why that would make any difference tho...

Yes - took it out, screwed it onto bottom of atty and then screwed the whole thing into the mod. You couldn't leave it like that as the screw wouldn't be screwed down and it might move over time - but I suppose it should make contact initially.

Could NOT agree MORE. At this point in time, I've nearly reached the saturation point with either help or communications from Mini. WHAT A SHAME.

I would also recommend Vapin Art as the vendor of choice for the Xvo. At least you'll get SEVEN DAYS if you need return it!!!

If I followed correctly, you did precisely what they said, but after screwing the atty and plate in, then you need to set the set screw.

Did it make contact?

Unfortunately this is the limit of what I'm comfortable in giving advice with multimeters.

If I was in your shoes I would try the multimeter on a mod that I know works to find the dial setting I need. I do know that it will come from the volt modes, not the ohm modes.
I believe he's also saying to remove the plate and attach an atty topper to it. Then, reinsert both the topper and plate (as one single unit) back into the hole, then use the set screw to fix it into place.

I accidentally did this when I was fiddling with my Xvostick when I first got it. I was able to assemble in that order, but when if came time to take off the topper to reinstall the grub screw I could never get the plate to stay in the mod :/ It always unscrewed with the topper

Welp, drippa, I'm learning far more about plates and grub screws than I ever thought imaginable!!!!!!
