There is a very dangerous mold here. You do NOT work in the garden after a rain or in wet soil because that's when it blooms. It's very difficult to treat even with systemic anti-fungal agents because those don't reach the lungs very well. Anyone with fruit eating birds is aware of it. A couple of birds had it. They'd act like they were going nuts before they died, sometimes for a couple of years. I didn't believe it until I saw it. Confirmed on autopsy. Any mold here is that type because it's so dry we don't get the 'wet' molds.

Yes. Absolutely. There are a lot of parallels between vet med and human med. Same drugs, different names even. Canary in a coal mine? Chickens as sentinels for West Nile virus? Animals are used all the time as a predicator for human meds.

Delores, I didn't say the contractor was doing it correctly, I said that the way we did it was to wash it down with bleach, clean it up and then do Killz. Please reread the post. I just don't think it's a major problem since it has been caught and it just happened.

If the problem was ongoing and the mold was really bad, I might say to remove everything and go stay at the motel, if you mitigate damages early on, I just don't think it's dangerous.

Sorry, Karen. I did reread the post, and you're correct, it's only been a recent thing. And in your particular case, I'm really glad that the mold wasn't extensive and you were able to get all of it before it spread.

All I was trying to say that it can be dangerous if all of it isn't caught and treated properly.

with hurricane Katrina, those houses sat with standing water for days on end, even after water receded, they were not allowed to go back until each dwelling was inspected. which meant the water was able to seep deeper into the wood and destroyed it also mold was able to grow faster. Shari was able to start cleaning almost immediately. That mitigated her damage, and kept the mold at bay.

Well, with a water issue I seriously doubt that Allstate is going to let this go by without some kind of a check or inspection before they release the money. I know that they said they are going to hold back some of the funds until completion. Since I have never dealt with something like this before I am not sure how it all works.

That sure could be a Baughway (I know my spelling is wrong). I know there are thin and thick o rings. Glass drip tips vary in size and sometimes one will work but not the other. You could try changing out the orings. I have gone through a lot of that brand without ever having a loose one. I don't know what else. Return it? They are disposables.

All I meant to say was there are different types of molds with different risks. Idk what's in her area. The country extension office would know and they'd be a neutral party that was free too.

I can't remember what I was looking at but I think it was a real estate form where it asked about mold too. The spooky stuff is a black mold that's powerdery when dry. It looks dead but it's not and becomes airborn easily -> into the lungs. It's nasty stuff.

I hadn't seen that article before, but it makes sense. Dogs are tested for Valley Fever. Kinda weird because what are you going to do?

Well it's a 510 drip tip so don't throw it away. It should work on anything accepting 510 drip tips. I was kinda wondering if you'd tried it on anything else to know whether it was a problem with the tip or atomizer. If the atomizer wasn't working, she might be getting liquid in her mouth when she inhales. And the reality is that she may just like another style better.

The Baughways are super cheap. I think you can buy them in bulk off Alibaba for $0.65 each. I like them a lot but they are what they are. They use the same acrylic tips that are sold for $1.50-$4 elsewhere. You could say that's the most valueable part. LOL!

Our contractor 'friend' ripped down the long kitchen wall. The drain pipe for the upstairs bathroom has been leaking behind the wall for years, more mold. I called ins and they are getting pictures and will let us know if it is covered. Wants estimate, paperwork stating scoping of problem from contractor. He does not want to do it. Thinks friend DH is going to do all this under the table. I told him he has to submit estimates so we get the money so he gets paid. Had it out with him. Now hubby and 'friend' are angry with me. Tough. He has to play by the rules. Hubby is a wimp and is going to get screwed. I am trying to prevent it. Not going well or easy.

I know what I'd do and that would be let him deal with the insurance company himself. And then walk away. Your just the person caught in the middle. His arguement isn't really with you, it's the insurance. Your just the messenger.
