Y'all are brave eating such things as brains, no matter what animal they belong to. I'm not having any, I don't care how hungry I am. I'm more of a chicken type person, if alligator and rattlesnake and frog legs all taste like chicken, then I'll just have chicken.

My s/o is more adventurous, and I have touched and prepared many gross and revolting foods, such as octopus/squid/shrimp with heads/fish with heads/various internal organs from chickens and cows, he's even cooked entire goats/pigs on holidays. The worst is beef tongue tacos and Menudo, made with honeycomb tripe (stomach) and tacos from pig intestines. Ew!!

Lets just say, no matter how thick your rubber gloves are, you can actually feel the tongue licking you while you hold it still and hack it up with a very sharp knife. Tripe is a very clean meat, that smells very bad while cooking. It's pure white. Pig intestines are the worst, absolutely the grossest thing I've ever smelled or looked at.

Yeah, I'll have chicken breast, thanks!

LOL! Half that stuff isn't weird. Fish head soup? Common. Head cheese, luau (roast pig), octopus - eel - chinese, gizzards um. Fish eggs - caviar. Crawdaddys (sand veins and heads) baby lobsters (Red Lobster). Pickled pigs feets are slimey.

Now menudo and tripe? Nope. No way.

I just can't eat something that's looking back at me. Not happening. Can't eat shrimp anymore since I saw a live one running around with it's .... over it's head. It's a mental thing. It took me 5 years to look at and inure myself to crab legs, because of seeing a live one at the zoo.

Octopus has a face, and an ink sack. Ew. It turns into dark purple rubber when you cook it, and you can actually get the suction cups stuck to your tongue. (Not that I would know from personal knowledge!) Squid is very slimy and gross until it is cooked as well.

Guess it's a forgone conclusion, I'm weird. I also have a pathological fear of butterflies.

Oh Claudia, that is so young to be a widow. And it is a tough age for a woman, I don't care what anyone says. 50 is not the new 30. Not for most women. I don't know what I would do without DH, I have become much more dependant on him than I like to admit. Well you sound like you have become quuite strong in your own right.

Funny thing is I made it through the 9 months of chemo and for a couple of months after, but I guess straight tequila just tastes better with a smoke. Oh and I quit drinking 8 years ago, how I wish quitting smoking was even half as easy.
Needless to say I didn't handle becoming a widow at the age of 48 very well.

Now everything you said here sounds disgusting. I think Northern Europe has food issues. I don't like any of the food, including the Irish, English and most German and anything north of there, pretty much. And I like most things. I mean, how many sausages and how much preserved fish can a person eat?

Alaska. Very gamey, topped with rancid lard.
Ludafisk? It's rotten fish (any kind) salted and preserved in lye (like soap). Served drowning in real butter so they can avoid tasting it. Very traditional Norweigen.
Closest thing I can imagine as a description would be dog sheet.
Seriously. And they LOVE it.

When you walked in and smelled the spices you didn't get a clue. Something like that happened to dear hubby when I introduced him to sushi and I was a little too generous with his wasabi. I couldn't drive home fast enough for him! Poor dear. He loves the sushi now, just have to go easier on his wasabi than mine. It's the only real spicy thing I can tolerate.

Gee, I have had most of that, but I am not sure what a grouse is. And I have had rabbit, but not jack rabbit, that sounds like it might be a little tough.

We ate tonque and heart and sea urchins, jack rabbit, grouse, salmon (till I had gills), cause it was cheap or free. When company came we had hamburger.

Sounds like YOU might be the one to try hot dog flavor liquid.

I have read that horse is eaten in France. Now I had ostrich and liked it, but it was in a burger form not steak. I don't think anything would get me to eat a pig brain souffle - must have been one big trick. Buffalo I found tough. The restaurant kept talking it up like it was a delicacy, it fell far short of our expectations, too. Was the turtle down in FL or over more towards LA? I don't think they allow you to eat turtle anymore, I could be mistaken. Lots of interesting foods you have tried. I love trying new things. Won't do chitlins though.

The horse and pig brains were both in Switzerland .... the horse I knew exactly what I was eating, it is more popular there than beef with some families, but on the pig brains-- well, my ex talked his mom into making it, and when I asked what it was he purposefully said the words quickly KNOWING that my Swiss sucks and that I'd most likely confuse it with another meat -- which is exactly what I did. Not only was it horrible, but I got soooooooo sick!
The turtle was actually in TN -- I was there visiting, and the family I went to go see basically "lived off of the land" as their income didn't justify buying meats in a grocery.
I love trying new foods also ... I used to worry about it because I have so many allergies, but I've found that I'm unlikely to have a reaction to something I've never been exposed to before. I have NO desire to try chitlins either!

That is much, much too early to lose your love. :(

No I knew better - that's why I ordered a cheeseburger. Talk about food poisoning  never occurred to me until later - I ordered cow in a restaurant owned by a Hindu family  I'm thinking its NOT a top selling item.
I have a friend from India and he introduced me to one of his other friends and included "he is my dear friend even though he eats meat and everything" lol.
