I was going broke ordering store bought juice based on gushing juice reviews. I know taste is subjective but seriously, there's a wide disparity between loving, kinda liking and gagging. I only have a gallon zip-lock bag full of store bought samples that are repulsive at best and from supposedly "top shelf vendors"... In my case, I have found that 99% of the juice I've ordered based on reviews and consumer suggestions to be mostly gag-worthy.

The most inaccurate reviews are the tobacco blends. Evidently these reviewers have never smoked or either their subjective fanboy mind is more focused on the subject (vendor) thus overruling their taste sensors. I smoked cigarettes for 40 years and in all those years I've yet to smoke a cigarette that has a vanilla, caramel, graham cracker, banana, honey etc, etc taste to them...and the folks reviewing, commenting and making even more ridiculous suggestion to people looking for a natural tobacco tasting juice will swear that these vendors have perfected the art of making the finest tobacco blends on the market.

I moved on, finally realized I couldn't do any worse and was right....it's much better.

A very good point, yet it's hard to not gush about a flavor you like. I tend to take merit in only the more generalized proponents.

For instance... I really love Velvet Cloud Vapor My favorite is Night Shift. Why do I like VCV? All their juices tend to have a thick, velvety consistency when vaped. Quite like the name actually. They also taste great and have satisfying TH.

At any rate it's hard to compare any single review to what you might experience. Setups play a very important role. Coil, wick, wattage, delivery... on and on. You'll notice that the generous reviewers also put in what setup they use so as to give you a basis with which to compare.

At the end of the day all you can really do is place an order, wait for it to arrive, and see how it works for you. (Or get into DIY) But if you ask me, aside from the obvious requirement of finding a flavor that you like enough to vape, the things to be truly considered are these:

~PG/VG Ratio
~mg/mL %
~Consistency for optimal wicking in your setup/s
~Desired TH/Smoothness

If you can order a juice and have confidence it will work well with whatever you plan on using it with, the chances of you appreciating and enjoying said juice increases quite a bit. Example: I tend to dislike thin juices. I find they provide unsatisfying TH, delivery of flavor, increase potential for flooding, and make my coils pop which is rather annoying.

Don't forget that steeping/age makes a big difference too. Sometimes flavors improve. Sometimes they get worse. Sometimes they don't really change much at all.

So to reiterate, there's definitely more to consider than if the flavor is good, great, bad, mellow... unfortunately this takes time, money, and patience to narrow down.

Best of luck :vapor:

You know what

I was confused about this when I first started vaping liquids
but kept hearing things like you cant duplicate burning tobacco

After I moved on from that I found that the tobacco flav's satisfied the urge to smoke best
Then I started with HHV Net's and Mom & Pop TA and found they worked much better

As I expanded to other NET's I found these Ive enjoyed most

Then I ran into one that tasted just like burning tobacco
It was realy good and complex like a pipe tobacco and not like a flav eliquide

But I found that I am no longer looking for something like that
I do Like NET tobacco's with a strong tobacco presence
but cant get into one that does not have some type of flavoring like vanilla or caramel

I had thought that was what I wanted but now I realize better

When I first started I was like a whorehound on the search for a juice that tasted like the tobacco I was use to smoking...so like all noobs I started scouring forums and G search looking for a real tobacco tasting juice. OMG was I a sucker to buy the juices that vapers and reviewers were touting as the closest thing there was to the real thing...nothing could have been further from the truth...Now I'm beginning to find my taste are slowly changing to where I can at least tolerate a subtle cream or mint. I still don't care for vaping fruits, drinks, desserts....the overly sweet sickening juices...

Now I'm making my own and all that matters is ME..haha...But I can honestly say that 3 of the 4 blends I've made to date are far better tasting to me than the high-end stuff I've been buying...and the 4th one just needs some minor tweaking...now I control what goes in my juice and can adjust to my liking and not what someone else thinks is great.

I don't think it is fair to blame reviewers because you don't like the liquid. as you said in the very beginning, taste is subjective.

I quickly figured out (before I spent tons of money!) that liquid reviews were useless for me. so I stopped watching/reading them and just found my own path.

as it turns out, unflavored is my favorite (and lucky for me I figured this out about 6 months after I started). a mild menthol is next followed by mild fruits. I dislike all the "favorites" <shrug>

This isn't about what I'm looking for...it's about the description/review inaccuracy....and No, Kenny G is not jazz... I haven't made a claim that I've perfected a tobacco blend.

But you are. You state:

As DW82 stated, you can't replicate the taste of a cigarette. These reviews aren't comparing the juice to a cigarette. They're comparing it to other juices they've tried.

I started off with the tobacco flavors and there were a few that were rather good. But as time went on, my tastes changed and I can't stand 'em now. Doesn't mean the reviews are wrong. It just means my tastes have moved on to other flavors that my palate finds more to my taste.

If you like the tobacco flavors, chances are, many of the reviews will be spot on for you. If you don't like the tobacco flavors, watching 30,000 favorable reviews isn't going to change that.

I have never seen a review that stated "this juice is like smoking a Marlboro".

Point taken...I guess I went around the world to make a point that I should have blamed myself for being influenced by folks urging me to try this and that...you know the line given "You can thank me later" but I would suspect that many folks get caught up in vendor/juice hype only to disappointed. I've found just in my personal taste that it's much easier to find a horrid tasting juice as opposed to one I really like. I've ordered samples that I thought were pretty good and then ordered a larger bottle of the same juice that didn't come close to tasting like the sample even after an extended steeping up to a month. I see quite a bit of inconsistencies from several vendors in their batches.

I wanted the real cigarette taste like many others. Now that I can taste my food and have lost all urges for a cigarette, things have changed.

I want explosive tangy, sweet, fruity with a smooth mellow exhaile.. The last thing I am interested in is a cigarette taste. I do have boba's and some naturally extracted tobaccos coming in 2 days... but just to try and probably pass along to friends just starting on e-cigs.

I couldn't agree more here. Much to my chagrin, it happened to me on various occasions, always after jumping in and spending a goodly amount on a much larger bottle. I still have those bottles, and they're still NOTHING like the first samplers I tried, which were amazing.

Glad I don't have to worry about that happening ever again...

Just last month I made a sample order from a Top Shelf vendor and it was one of few juices I've ordered that I actually liked so I ordered a large bottle, it was not remotely similar to it's sample. I gave it a few weeks to steep and it still tasted awful. I contacted the vendor and to their credit they sent another bottle...and both bottles still taste like crap after a month steeping and shaking several times daily.

Most people I run into that are new to vaping wants a juice that resembles a real cig. The burning tobacco taste we get from a real cig is difficult to duplicate. The closest thing I have found tasted like an ashtray, and it was months after starting to vape, so needless to say it was nasty. To me, most tobacco flavors I find taste like real tobacco smells. Take a cig and smell it, you will find it much easier to find a juice that taste like that tobacco smells. Taste is very subjective, some people love onions, some people hate them and the rest fall somewhere in between. All about your perspective, I have had people try juices I hated and they ended up loving it. Each review you read may not be the same to you, only way to really find flavors you like is to try them. This can add up and be more expensive than you want, but if you have a local store in your area who has a wide variety of flavors to sit down and try that would be the best and cheapest way to find what is right for you.

I just starting making my own, now I know exactly what goes in and what goes in is only what I like and the best part is...it cost me about 6 cents per ml.
