This is terrible news Baditude. I feel your pain brother.

Strange how when we were younger the senior people had more value from an employer's standpoint. Now it's reversed and want younger people with less experience and less real world experience. They don't want to spend the time and money to re-train or invest in people over 45.

Now it is up to the individual to update their skill set or get left behind unfortunately. I'm in a similar situation, but a bit younger and married. I have to make some decisions soon to diversify for lack of contracted work. Good luck buddy and hope things get better for you soon. You will definitely be missed on a daily basis.

we can post a link to stupid World vaping Day but not say a Facebook one or something?Hmmm

gotta go do the ICU gig with the friend, but I'm no stranger to being in deep with moderators (having been one for a dozen or so years at a major Alum board in Tx )

PM me if anything gets going in the interim. :)

Somewhere out there
I understand completely your situation and I'm sorry to hear it. I am nearing retirement and your post reminded me to be grateful to be somewhat secure in my current employment situation. If ever there was a template for being a good citizen of a board like this, you would surely be it. Thanks for your help in the short time I've been here and please don't hesitate to reach out to any who have offered to help, even if it's just career advice. You're too young to pack it in and not start a second career, and there is currently money (grants, etc.) for re-training available if there's a post secondary or technical school nearby. Think about that route. Good luck to you. If there is something like karma, something good is coming your way. We'll all be looking forward to your return and the story you'll tell.

One is called a WIA grant if you want to look up information on it. It's not well publicized unless you look for the information. I was headed that way myself, but luckily did get a job offer first.

I'm so sorry to hear this Bad. I've always thought of you as the heart and soul of ECF. I'm always amazed at how generous you are with your time and knowledge. How you'd post a long and detailed answer to a question that's already been answered a thousand times, because some noob couldn't find it.

You must be moving WAY out in the boonies to not have any internet at all. I live in the country and we have internet. It's just barely better than dial-up, but at least I can get on.

Yup. I'm not Amish, but there is a large Amish community in northwestern Ohio where I grew up. Horse & buggy, black & white clothing, barn raisings. Like the Harrison Ford movie, "Witness". My brother is single and lives in the same house we brothers and sister grew up in.

Until a few years ago, our community still used "party lines" for the telephone service. Several people shared the same phone line, and if someone was already on the line, you had to wait until their conversation was over to use the phone. I can remember my mom picking up the phone...listen...and hang up, and say, "That Sarah Clark is STILL on the line!!"

My brother did get satelite TV service a few years ago. I may be able to talk him into allowing me to get satelite internet if I earn my keep. I plan to be a "house husband", at least initially. Cook, clean, laundry, lawn & leaf care, snow removal. Even windows.

I'm living in the house my wife had built and she's told me that before we got married, they had a party line and she had dial-up. She would have to wait till late to get online, because she would keep getting knocked off. We had satellite after dial-up and before we got DSL. It was OK, hopefully it's improved.

Well why the heck didn't you say that earlier, Bad? How do you feel about Stamford, CT?

I don't mean to make light - you know I don't feel that way. But I sure do hope he feels that stuff is worth an internet connection. I'd kill for such help.

Bad, I am so sorry to hear of your misfortunes. It's sad to hear these sorts of stories, especially about someone who I consider a mentor. Hopefully, you will find a way out of the situation you are in. Meanwhile, rest assured that I will not forget all you have done for your fellow vapers. I will miss you, but I also know that you will find a way to return. Peace, Bad, and vape on.

Baditude, I'm so sorry to hear of your misfortune. I wish I was able to help you out somehow. I remember being a new member here, I messaged you with a newbie question. Your response was very informative, and sincere. I greatly appreciated your help then, and still do today. You probably don't realize how much I've learned from reading your blogs and posts you've contributed here. Hopefully the tide will turn in your favor. I wish you the best sincerely, James Wagner.

Bad, reading your post has saddended me and I can only mimick what othes have said.

I hope I am not over stepping bounderies by making a suggestion. If you have unlimited data on your cell phone, you can download a program called FoxFI.
It is like 3$ It will turn your phone into an internet hot spot via which you can connect your computer, tablet etc to the internet. As long as you have unlimited data on your cell phone no further charges will incur. I believe walmart and t-mobile both offer unlimited data plans for a reasonable price. You can google FoxFI to see what phones are capatable.
I live in the middle of nowhere and this is the only way I have internet. I tried satelite internet when I first moved here and it was over priced and terrible service.
Once you use a certain amount of data with satelite service it would slow down to like dial up speeds.

Anyways just a hopeful solution for you:) Good luck on your move! Keep Positive! Things have a way of turning around.

Baditude, you will be missed. I wish you the best of luck on your journey, and hopefully your life will start to turn around and climb back up. Since I first joined ECF, I've looked to your posts and learned so much from them, as I know so many countless others have as well. Much gratitude! Again, good luck!
