Cool thread, I am 29 ans had started smoking when I was 14. I was a pack and a hlad a day smoker and I freggin loved em. It was the first thing I thought of when I woke up and went to bed. I was enslaved. I discovered e-cigs via a friend that was selling the ego style out of his house I bought one 5 months ago and was sold. Within a week of the ego I got a silver bullet, a few weeks later I got a provari. Been smoke free coming on 5 months. I effin love vaping, and what is cool, is the demographic of people I am surrounded by, there are a lot of smokers, and I have been able to convert quite a few. I have experienced tremendous health benefits, however I can see myself someday not vaping and just being nic. free. I hope to see big tobacco go bye bye via cigarettes, my mother died two years ago with serious lung probs. due to smoking.

EricHill- Thank you for the Snuff/Snus websites. What are your favorite brands? I have been meaning to try nasal snuff, but I was worried it would cause red or watery eyes and/or red or runny nose problems? I'm very interested in a non-tobacco snuff, perhaps a pleasant aroma herbal blend. I think a non-tobacco menthol snuff would work wonders for waking me up in the AM. I also saw energy snuff on one of the sites you posted, but I have to wonder if that kind of this is of good quality... The prices are great on a lot of the products. I have a loaded visa card with $2.50 on it, but the shipping is over $6.00 unfortunately. I saw that there are now filtered "dip" products that supposedly have no negative health effects. That kind of thing seriously interests me and I'll have to read more and maybe try some of these. I'm also thinking about tank options for my Apollo Vtube. I like the "Acorn Tank" from ParkesVaping.com because you can unscrew the top and basically dump your e-liquid into it from a bucket if you had to, haha. Its not as aesthetically pleasing as the other type of tanks but its pretty cheap, low maintenance, and I want to support ParkesVaping. The owner started out right out of her home and shes a very kind hearted woman from the YouTube reviews I've watched. She gave away free juice to all of her friends before being pushed by all of her friends, family, and supporters to start her own business. I like that kind of story, its American. :p

dmcg- I'm sorry to hear about your loss. My father died of lung cancer when I was in 5th grade. He worked two full time jobs and I don't have many memories of him at all. All I can go by is what my mom and my brothers and sisters tell me. He was extremely hard working and only came home to eat with the family and sleep. He always wanted a son of his own (my siblings came from my mother's first marriage) and when he finally had me, he was the happiest man alive. He wanted to raise me to become a hard working, loved boy, but he died way too early. :( But I quit smoking in his name. I wont let his death be in vein. I refuse to let cancer take me down too. We're in this together. If you EVER feel like relapsing, PM me!! <3

chaostheory- I've also read about American Snus. I read that the American companies do NOT cure the tobacco the correct way and that it is NOT to be considered genuine snus. They say that by the US companies marketing it as snus, and by them marketing it as spitless tobacco, they are misguiding the US citizens and essentially killing us. American make snus does not go through the proper treatments for it to be spitless, and by swallowing, you are swallowing harmful chemicals. They are lying to us. So I am definitely going to try some better quality tobacco from one of EricHill's websites. Hopefully he can help me pick a good snus and a good nasal snuff to try out.

MattC- I'm really sorry to hear about that. I can't imagine. :/ My girlfriend is BP and I've got depression and self esteem problems, so, we have our periods where I'm getting hurt and shes getting ...... and we can't help it. I'm sorry. If your ever bored or if you ever need a buddy, get your mind off things and just vape and chat, you can PM me on here. After smoking for 6+ years, I quickly stopped noticing the taste of my cigarettes. The taste didn't mean anything to me after I had already become addicted. In fact, I can genuinely say that after the first year of smoking, I didn't care what brand I had or anything about the taste. All I cared about was that I had cigarettes. All I cared about was that I had a cigarette in my mouth every 10 to 20 minutes. So, they really get you addicted, to the point where you don't even care about the taste. Actually, every real smoker I've ever spoken to has told me they lost the nicotine buzz after the first year as well. So taste and buzz goes away and all we're smoking for is basically... to smoke! We just needed that stick in our hand, in our mouth, and that smoke coming out of our mouths. Thats what we're addicted to. Until we don't get the nicotine for an extended period of time, we don't even notice we need it. We just need that mouth and hand craving satisfied!

whodey365- My 510 is from a kiosk and honestly, I am very satisfied with it. I ordered my ApolloVtube because I know there is bigger and better things in the mods world, and I know that when I'm seriously craving a good throat hit, I'll be good with my Vtube. Where-as I can't rely on these three 510 batteries, I can't... They work well now, but they are only rated for 200 charges, and I've probably charged them 30 times already! haha. I feel I'll be safe and satisfied with the variable voltage Vtube. If you still have your mall kiosk 510 batteries, I'd be willing to trade you something for them. Let me know.

fray- I can empathize with you bud. Every time I've tried to quit with the patch, the gum, I end up on a roller-coaster depending on what I chose and what mg I choose. I'm either feeling sick from nicotine withdrawal or feeling horrible from nicotine overdose with those products. But I switched from cigarettes strait to my 510s and I was fine, with no problems. I'm sure your kids will be extremely happy to know you've stopped the cigarettes and your on your way to a healthier life.

TonyTT- haha, I should of known I'd be one of the youngest here. It seems it doesn't matter which forum I sign up on, no matter what subject the forum is for, I am one of the youngest on them. I don't mind and I seem to fit in well here on ecf.

This post took approximately 45 minutes from start to finish. Its now 4:59AM. I'm so obviously sleep posting. Goodnight YM. <3

Hi everyone!
I'm going to be 37 next june. I was 1-2 PAD (Red Marl) for 24 years. Started to smoke at 11. I was never planning to quit. I was interested to try vaping because the flavors are interesting and I love gadgets. Started with a crappy e-health e-cig. A week later I was offered a Riva 510 kit. Since I bought my Riva, I stopped smoking completely. I joined ECF the day I've got my Riva. Thank you ECF for helping me to get past the frustrating stages of messing with cartridges, and all. It's been a while now. You can see by my join date, it's the day I quit smoking.

Sent from my mind using my fingers.

Great thread! So many of these stories are alike and its really cool to see so many different walks of life being bonded by this genious invention!
Im 29, started smoking at 13, was at a pad by 15. My dad smokes and at the time he was 10 feet tall in my eyes, so smoking must be really awesome, right!?! I even favored his brand, camel filters. Last year at work i saw a co-worker "smoking" in the break room and just knew i had to get in on that action! "Wait!? I domnt have to go outside to smoke!?!" This is wisconsin, our winters get brutally cold, but the nicotine craving was too strong for me to care that its -10° out, just smoke faster! So, like most, i started with your cheap/mostly un satisfactory gas station varity e-cig, then my coworker told me to get an ego. Hit the scratch that needed itching! Went from the ego, to a 3.7v 510 box mod, now my go to's are a 5v 510 box and a vv box. Im not goin to lie n say im an exclusive vaper, i might have 3 or 4 of those nasty tasting things a week, just cause, well, i domt know why

2nd youngest at 23!....I dunno why more ppl in their early 20s don't vape. Few of my smoker friends show any interest whatsoever....

And you're the 3rd youngest :p Plumes is 20 and I'm 21.
I kinda get it...vaping isn't cool to the younger crowd... I whip out my satin provari with a 3ml j-tank and electric blue drip tip, and they think it's hilarious. I however, think it's beautiful:)...

Hahahahha. It's the same here. I let my friend who is a smoker try my flavors and he always tells me its a "portable hookah". And at school I couldn't tell you how many people have came up to me to ask me for a cigarette after they see the clouds I'm blowing. It's funny to see their confused facial expressions after I tell them that I quit.

I'm the youngest! Sadly, I am only 19. I started smoking at 13, and had a 1-3 pack a day habit over the years. I wanted to quit when my son was born, (I was 16 at the time but thats another story), but I couldn't keep up with it. I did get some mild success on snus, but I would always go back to cigarettes. Eventually I heard about e-cigs when I was 17, and gave them a try. I had a 510 with carts, and I hated it. About a year and a half later, I gave vaping a second chance, and found a kr808 kit with cartomizers that worked really well for me. I am not approaching 1 year of less then a cigarette a week. I only smoke socially, and I'm getting to the point where I don't even care for that. Glad I found e-cigs, otherwise I dont think I would have ever quit.

I am 24; started smokin' at 18 & quickly became a 2 PaD fiend. Kept that up for 5 years until this January, when I picked up my first eGo. I would never have tried e-cigs of my own accord, but a buddy of mine got into it & last thanksgiving he brought his equipment out for the visit & we all tried it & loved it. I had no problems making the switch, other than dealing with the bodily adjustments of tobacco chemical loss. Been 2 months & I am still working through some skin issues, though those are subsiding a bit. My body, like my soul, LOVED smoking & was very angry when I quit. I will never go back.

Yippee, I fit in the 'younger' crowd!
I'm 46 and smoked for close to 30 years. Smoking ruled/ruined my life in many ways. For eg. I knew which restaurants etc. allowed smoking, which airports had nice smoking rooms amd exactly where they were and how long it took to get there. If smoking was banned I usually avoided a place unless I had no choice. I planned trips or excursions anywhere with smoke breaks built in, stuff like that. It was ridiculous!
As much as I loved smoking, I hated the smell on me, on my clothes and on my hair. I never wore an outfit or even PJ's without washing between wears, and sometimes changed several times a day and washed my hair every single day and sometimes twice. Bath or shower minimum twice a day. I carried perfumed lotion, hand sanitizer and even a portable hairdryer everywhere (hairdryer to blow smoke smell from my hair). I washed my hands more times a day than Michael Jackson ever did lol.

I tried many times to quit, but deep down I KNEW I could never manage as within a few hours I would be a total dragon and my non smoking hubby would have secret stashes of my menthol fags for when I started climbing the walls. The last few years I became deeply ashamed of being a smoker and also started getting very sick every winter with asthma, flu, bronchitis etc. and worse! And I was always catching severe chills by having every door and window wide open even in the depth of winter, and then taking months to recover from flu or a cough.

Enter ecigs!!!!! Wow, wow, wow!!!! I am now a non smoker. Sometimes I can hardly believe it myself! No more hefty dry cleaning bills, no more lurking around dark corners outside the station with my ..., no more freezing in my own house, no more 3 loads of washing a day. No more painful chapped fingers from thousands of hand washing, no more worrying myself to death about stinking like an ashtray etc. etc. Talk about having your cake and eating it too (and coming up smelling like a BAKERY) :D. I LOVE vaping!

P.S. Not a single cold or cough this whole winter!

I don't know about that. I actually got the Ecig information from my younger brother who had it recommended to him on the shroomery board (most of the posters there are 18-25). I did blogs, but never belonged to a board until this one. I would dare say that the majority of ecig users are 20 -35 years old (aka young kids)

Ohh boy, "The Shroomery," haha, I was a member for a while in my younger years. I, like you, also can't see younger people thinking e-cigarettes are uncool. They probably just don't know enough about them. Look at the Lavatube with neon pink bluespot juice ontop of a shiny new stainless steel mod complete with blinking LED lights around the fire button... Throw in a black light and some incense and I don't know what teenager could resist quitting cigarettes for one. lol. Well, from first hand experience, it is a little less cool to be holding a 510 than a real cigarette in a group of young smokers. And sure, the bigger mods are clunky and awkward. So I suppose I CAN see the 18 to 25 crowd being turned off by them. But I think when e-cigarettes really hit as a fad, (which, in my opinion, is inevitable.. and I don't know if this is a good thing for us or not.. because they will be banned faster than you can say the word "banned" if they become a serious "fad" in the minor age groups) the 18 to 25 will fall in love with them eventually. We just have to give it time for them to catch on.

I know it's a bit of an anecdote, but I still stand by my original assertion. I was smoking last summer (age 27) at parties and clubs and what not, and it seemed like people my age and younger were very turned off by smoking.. really has seemed that way for the past few years. When I went to OC after the smoking bans (where they have a lot of outdoor smoking bars in MD), I always caught hell from younger kids in their early 20's, especially younger girls. The older generations seemed to be able to tolerate smoking more generously.

To me, it feels like ecigs are marketed to younger people. .. look at the vendor names, their styles, the color compositions, the led lights as you said, the new colored smoke 'n what not..It may not be a national sensation, but it's obvious that the target audience is 18-35. If they were marketed simply as a way for long term smokers to quit , there probably wouldn't be millions of vapers.

I actually offered to get my mother (age 54) a kit from v4l and she thought they looked crazy. Didn't want to smoke something with a bright blue light on it.. and there are way more extreme vendors out there.
