One of my employers (100s of employees) is planning to outlaw any form of smoking on the premises in the near future. I was surprised to see e-cigs lumped into the list of banned items, so I recently sent a detailed email with attached research to the committee in charge of implementing the new policy. I also offered to speak in person to the committee to explain why including e-cigs was an ill-informed decision that should be overturned. If I hear from them, I'll be putting together a PPT presentation and wearing a new suit.

Just curious... If you work for someone, what's the scene at your gig?

I know after reading some other forums this has been an issue for some. Some have done exactly what you are doing and have had some success... but sadly most have not... it is just too easy for an employer to take the easy way out and just lump e-cigs into their smoking bans.

I am not currently working, so can't add info from that standpoint, but my DH is in a nursing home that allows vaping by residents and employees alike. They actually see the benefit in it and with the residents, it is a safety feature (much less supervision required and they don't have to go outside and face the elements). Someone else mentioned that the VA provides (or allows) PV as an alternative to smoking because of the smoking bans in their institutions. Might be worth your while to research the VA policy on this as a point. After all, if it is good enough for our veterans, it should be good enough for the rest of us!

I know many will be facing these battles, so keep us posted and remember you are the voice for all of us! Good Luck!!

Good luck jeffree hope you are able to change their minds! For me at work, I have been vaping there since I started, over two years now! My employer is a home improvement chain ( ryhmes with 'slows' ;). I vape in the breakroom and stealth vape when I can, bathroom, watering the trees, etc. I never vape around customers except maybe to show them my VK if they are smoking.
There is a strict no-smoking policy anywhere on the property, but the smokers go to their cars to smoke, it just depends on the current managment and our store manager is pretty laid back. I have gotten a few to start vaping with a couple successes. My co-workers in the breakroom like the smell and think my vaping is either cool or odd, but I think they think the same of me :D

I wish you the best on changing corporate policy. As an employer it's a tough call only due to the fact that if you allow one type of nic intake, but exclude another somebody will complain. When I used to own a delivery company and had a staff of 22 employees I often referred to work as Adult Day Care. Dealing with personality conflicts and in some cases personality disorders were distracting and always the worst part of my day. We have all known high-maintenance co-workers who seem to strive to be contentious about everything.

Jeffree best of luck in your endeavor man. It sucks that you do have to plead your case especially since ecigs don't normally fall under bands. Obviously my employer has no issue with vaping but other establishments have definitely stopped me. I find bigger corporations has a hard time giving me a "yes" to continue vaping for example Best Buy. But I just assume its because a young teen is more concerned about losing a job or getting written up than whether I actually do it. Smaller businesses typically have no problem. But I always still finding myself pleading with people and trying to show them the benefits of vaping. I was at a restaurant last night in Wrigleyville and our waitress stopped me and told me I couldn't smoke and after pleading with her I was told by a manager that due to the "image" they would prefer if I didn't. So I respected their decision but I understand the fight and I wish you luck and hopefully success.

Good luck Jeffree!!

I don't actually know my employers take on vaping. I've done searches on the corporate policy websites a couple times but haven't seen them mentioned yet.

But my take on my employers take: What they don't know won't hurt them :D
I work 2nd shift and once everyone goes home I see no reason why I can't vape away in my cubicle. I suspect that I have been spotted once or twice but so far no one has complained. Lol, the other day I had gone a while without a puff and completely subconsciously I just pulled my batt and tank out of my pocket, put it together and vaped right in front of a coworker. ROFL!! He said something about "oh, I've heard about those" and I tried to play it off and hide the complete shock I was feeling. If he had complained I know I would've heard about it, so luckily he didn't say anything :)

Ha! I used to work at 'slows' myself plant. Put in about 7 years there.

Jeffree - good luck. I do it all the time at work, but it wasn't hard for me to convince anyone. I work in IT for the National Guard. Naturally, IT people (usually) aren't resistant to new technology so they were open to it and of course those in the military are very health conscious for the most part so I didn't have any trouble at all. They thought it was a little odd at first but they got used to it very quickly. I just try not to make a big show of it to avoid questions.

Jeffree sir wish you all the luck. CVS is against all forms of smoking and vaping as well on premises of their regional offices and caremark offices. It doesn't affect the store level, but have sent many e-mails to HR and the higher ups about the stupidity of including ecigs. It's been like talking to a brick wall....

Until two weeks ago, I was allowed to vape on the production floor. Now I just take more bathroom breaks. It sucks because I have to make sure I have my high nic juice with me.

What caused the change?? Did someone complain or new company policy? I really hate to see e-cigs lumped in with smoking bans.

Really because of addiction? I'm sure you could make a case for other addictions hindering business. Let's see, addiction to sleeping in and coming in late, addiction to extended lunch breaks, addicted to not doing your job. Much more destructive than ecigs right?

The company I work for has been tobacco free for almost 6 years. Not sure why the change, but it is what it is.

Someone said the ecigs were banned because they were addictive. I would like to see the company ban caffeine!!!!!

Sadly, HR and common sense rarely exist in the same universe. If you DO manage to convince them they are powerless to /uninterested in changing it unless they themselves vape. Sorry for sounding so bitter but have given up fighting stupid company policy....:)

I work for a very small company... when I started vaping I never asked anyone, I just did it. My boss thought they were really cool and was thrilled that my health might improve. I know she has told some of her friends outside the office that they should try it, so she's totally on board. I also know the CEO has caught me, and apparently doesn't care, as he sure hasn't said a word. Of course, I never take them into meetings etc as I feel that would be a distraction which would be rude.

I know some people who work in our business park and they say the same thing. It's such a small environment that (with explanation) no one cares really.
